Farah Khan says she wanted to marry at 23 but ‘dushman' mom was against it, talks about husband Shirish Kunder: ‘Grateful I married at 40'

Indian Express11 hours ago
Filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan, known for her unfiltered humour and candid personality, opened up about her personal journey in her latest YouTube vlog featuring influencer and content creator Apoorva Mukhija, also known as The Rebel Kid. In the new episode Farah Khan recalled the time she wanted to get married at 23. She also discussed her now husband, motherhood and YouTube stardom.
The conversation took a surprising turn when 23-year-old Apoorva shared that she was already thinking about marriage. Farah, shocked, instantly reacted, 'Don't ever get married so young.' She then got real about her own past and revealed how she, too, wanted to tie the knot at 23.
'At 23, I wanted to get married. I thought my life is now over. 'Kya hi hai life mein?' And my mom was like, 'If you get married so young, I will throw you out of my house.' I cried and created a scene. I said, 'Other parents want their daughters to get married and you are my dushman.''
Reflecting on it now, Farah said, 'But today, I am grateful that I got married around 40. I am very happy. I have three beautiful children. A good husband. At 40, you do whatever you want.'
Shirish Kunder is a filmmaker and editor. After working on 21 films as its editor, Shirish made his directorial debut with Jaan-E-Mann. He met Farah when she made her directorial debut with Main Hoon Na. Their marriage made headlines as Farah was 8 years older to Shirish.
Apoorva then asked a practical question: 'But if I find someone now, so can I get married to him after dating him for 5–6 years?'
Farah smiled and said, 'There is no date to get married.' She added warmly, 'You are just 23. Your mind will grow—' To which Apoorva jokingly interrupted, 'My mind stopped growing at 13.'
In the same vlog, the two also talked about Farah's unexpected shift from making big Bollywood films to creating YouTube vlogs. Apoorva asked if she enjoys it, and Farah beamed, 'I have too much fun. If people come in time, it gets over in 2 hours.'
She went on to explain how she got into the YouTube space. 'I had written scripts for films but then I thought, I will have to wait for dates of the actors. This gives me anxiety. People think, once you become famous, there is no stress. But that's not true. Even the biggest of stars get anxious.'
Farah shared that multiple offers had come her way to start something on YouTube, but she had her own terms.
'I finally agreed but with a condition. I said, 'I will do this, but something of my own kind. It won't be a talk show or podcast. I don't want to run behind celebrities and struggle with their managers. I will take my cook and start a cooking vlog.' And it worked!'
She added, 'By the time we did our second vlog, we received a silver button. Then we even received a gold. It worked well for us. Dilip and I started to have fun. Initially, it was just the both of us.'

Farah says ever since she gas got into the YouTube business, she has found joy and balance in her new routine.
'I haven't done movies in a very long time now. But with movies, two years of your life goes into it. You can't do anything apart from that. But with vlogs, I have a life. I can do this and also spend time with my kids, go watch a movie, and chill with friends and travel.'
She also highlighted how far-reaching YouTube fame can be. 'We went to SOHO House, and all these rich people came up to us and said, 'We love watching your YouTube vlogs. We love Dilip.' And later, even the watchman of the place was watching our vlog. And so was the driver. The fanbase is much more. I am enjoying YouTube, and there's lots of money in it, which we didn't know. If only we knew this, we would have started it much earlier.'
Farah laughed, pointing at Dilip, 'Dekho paisa tapak raha hai iske mooh se.'
In true Farah style, the vlog ended with a humorous twist—she made Apoorva do the dishes. 'This is how they treat outsiders in Bollywood,' Apoorva joked. Farah responded, 'I also make the insiders do the dishes.'

Shilpa Shirodkar recalls working as a hairdresser in New Zealand after getting married, leaving Bollywood: 'I was SSC fail but I put that in my resume'

After leaving films in 2000, built a new life abroad—first as a hairdresser in New Zealand, then in a corporate job. In a candid chat on MaaaNoranjan, she shared how marriage, work, and motherhood reshaped her journey, proving that life after stardom can be just as meaningful. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a candid conversation on MaaaNoranjan with Gauahar Khan, Shilpa reflected on her life in New Zealand after stepping away from films. To stay creatively engaged, she pursued a course in hairdressing—drawn to its connection with the world of beauty and performance. She even worked briefly at a salon, embracing a new chapter of reinvention far removed from the Bollywood spotlight. The actress also spoke about how balancing her new marriage with a demanding salon job became challenging. With her husband working weekdays and her schedule packed on weekends, the couple had little time together. Realizing the importance of nurturing their relationship in those early years, she eventually chose to step away from the job and focus on building their life together. After stepping away from salon work, Shilpa wasn't ready to sit idle. When her husband asked what she planned to do next, she surprised him by asking him to make her a resume—honestly listing everything from her film work to the fact that she hadn't completed her SSC. What began as a light-hearted experiment turned into a real turning point: she applied for a few jobs just for fun and, in a twist worthy of a movie scene, returned home the same day with two appointment letters in hand. She eventually took a job but soon found out she was pregnant. She eventually joined Dun & Bradstreet as a credit controller, stepping into a corporate role far removed from her film career. One day, after casually mentioning to a friend that she was constantly tired and experiencing acidity, the friend suggested she might be pregnant. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Though she laughed it off at first, a pregnancy test confirmed the unexpected news. Her husband's reaction was pure joy, and in that moment, everything changed. Their journey into parenthood had begun, marking yet another new chapter in Shilpa's evolving life beyond the screen. Despite facing significant health challenges during her pregnancy, she continued working without slowing down. She was on insulin multiple times a day, experienced drastic weight loss, and constantly carried the scent of cocoa butter—but for her, it was still a joyful and deeply fulfilling experience. She looks back on that time as one of the most special chapters of her life. After the birth of her daughter Anushka, Shilpa Shirodkar stepped away from work to focus fully on motherhood, choosing to be a hands-on, full-time mom.

Drake's new song has a Bitcoin connection

Drake has included a Bitcoin (BTC) reference in his recently released song, 'What Did I Miss?' The popular hip-hop artist's new song directly incorporates Bitcoin, the widely recognised cryptocurrency, into a cultural conversation, 16 years after its creation. "What Did I Miss" premiered during a YouTube stream titled "ICEMAN EPISODE ONE," which features Drake playing a worker on his lunch break. The song explores themes of betrayal, following Drake's 2024 dispute with Kendrick Lamar. Drake likens the shifting loyalties he addresses in the track to the unpredictable nature of Bitcoin, giving the digital asset a prominent reference. The reference to Bitcoin and its volatility appears in the first verse of the song. Drake has previously engaged with Bitcoin, having bet $1 million in the cryptocurrency on the outcome of the 2022 Super Bowl. What Drake said about Bitcoin in his new song In the first verse, Drake directly compares Bitcoin's well-known price volatility to the unpredictable nature of his former friends — supportive one moment, distant the next — mirroring the dramatic ups and downs of Bitcoin's value. In the song, he says: by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AI is helping small businesses increase productivity. Could be down this week, then I'm up next week.' Drake's connection with Bitcoin has mostly revolved around high-stakes gambling rather than investment. In 2024, he reportedly lost over $1 million in BTC through unsuccessful bets on the NBA and NHL Finals. He placed those bets using the crypto gambling platform Stake, with which he has an endorsement deal. His song 'What Did I Miss?' reflects on loyalty and shifting alliances following a major rap feud. Drake expresses disappointment over collaborators and friends who sided with rivals, using the track as a moment of reflection on fractured relationships and the emotional fallout from the events of that year.
