Flags Of Banned Terror Outfit Fly In Dhaka As India Deals With Pakistan On Western Front

At a time when India is engaged with its western neighbour Pakistan, the down sliding of its eastern neighbour Bangladesh to radical Islam could prove to be another concern for India. On Friday night, when India was engaged with Pakistan, flags of terror organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir—which is banned in India—were flaunted openly on the streets on Bangladesh's capital Dhaka.
In a protest in Shahbagh area of Dhaka, a video of which was seen by News18, multiple Hizb ut-Tahrir flags can be seen waving without any objections during a protest to ban former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League. In what may raise eyebrows in South Block, there were religious slogans in Urdu peppered in between.
Hizb ut-Tahrir (HT) seeks to create a global Islamic caliphate governed by Sharia, viewing it as a divine obligation for Muslims, much like the Islamic State. They see systems like democracy, capitalism or secularism as assaults on Islamic governance. Hizb ut-Tahrir is a pan-Islamist organisation that came to the limelight since Hasina's exit. Despite being 'banned' in Bangladesh, the outfit behaves politically, often seen waving ISIS flags along with its own. The terror outfit is banned in 13 countries for having close links with al Qaeda and ISIS.
On Friday, many political parties and social organisations like National Citizen Party, Islami Andolan, Hefajat-e-Islam, Jamat-e-Islam, AB Party among others were present at Dhaka's Shahbag protest.
Also, Jasimuddin Rahmani, a Bangladeshi radical Islamist cleric and spiritual leader of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a banned terrorist organisation in Bangladesh, was also present in the protest.
Bangladeshi journalist Shahidul Hasan Khokon says the protests are more than just anti-Hasina political movements. 'Dissent, protest and anti-government movements are nothing new in Bangladesh's political culture. But when those protests are covered with the symbols of a foreign terrorist organisation, the question arises—who is this protest for? Who are behind it? Whose language is being borrowed? These are organisations that oppose democracy, women's rights, religious tolerance, and cultural diversity—everything. Do they want to establish a 'Caliphate'-based regime, where dissent, different beliefs and different thoughts are forbidden?"
At a time when India is dealing with a radical Pakistan joined by Turkey, it certainly can't afford to take its eyes off its eastern borders.

Héctor Fabio Bolaños, 65, told AFP, 'There was a thunderous sound of something exploding near the air base. Many houses were damaged in front of the base." Following the blast, several buildings, including a school, were evacuated as a precaution. Another witness indicated that some of those killed may have been civilians passing by at the time of the explosion. In response to the attack, Mayor Eder has announced a ban on large trucks entering the city, citing the risk of additional threats. He also offered a reward of US$10,000 for information leading to those responsible. While the investigation is ongoing, no group has claimed responsibility. However, Valle del Cauca Governor Dilian Francisca Toro condemned the bombing, calling it a 'terrorist attack." She added, 'Terrorism will not defeat us." The Colombian Air Force released an official statement, saying, 'At this time, efforts are underway to verify the damage to facilities and personnel, as well as the investigation to determine the causes and perpetrators of this terrorist act, which threatens civilians and the lives of the men and women who serve Colombians from the Air Force." Colombia has seen a rise in violence in recent months. In June, leftist guerrillas claimed responsibility for attacks around Cali that left seven people dead. On Thursday, a separate incident in Antioquia department resulted in eight deaths during clashes between guerrilla fighters and police officers. Trump Pick Alina Habba Serving Illegally As US Attorney, Says Federal Judge

The group questioned the validity of the charges filed against them, arguing that Habba no longer held the authority to prosecute after the expiration of her 120-day term in July. Last month, in anticipation of the term's expiration, New Jersey's federal district judges had selected a new nominee to succeed Habba as acting US Attorney. However, that appointment was blocked by US Attorney General Pam Bondi, who removed the judges' nominee from the office entirely. Habba was sworn in as acting US Attorney on March 28, shortly after serving as President Trump's personal legal counsel. Supreme Court lets Trump admin cut $783 mn of research funding in anti-DEI push
Last Updated: Washington, Aug 21 (AP) The Trump administration can slash hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of research funding in its push to cut federal diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, the Supreme Court decided Thursday. The high court majority lifted a judge's order blocking $783 million worth of cuts made by the National Institutes of Health to align with Republican President Donald Trump's priorities. The high court did keep Trump administration guidance on future funding blocked, however. The court split 5-4 on the decision. Chief Justice John Roberts was along those who would have kept the cuts blocked, along with the court's three liberals. The order marks the latest Supreme Court win for Trump and allows the administration to forge ahead with cancelling hundreds of grants while the lawsuit continues to unfold. The plaintiffs, including states and public-health advocacy groups, have argued that the cuts will inflict 'incalculable losses in public health and human life". The Justice Department, meanwhile, has said funding decisions should not be 'subject to judicial second-guessing" and efforts to promote policies referred to as DEI can 'conceal insidious racial discrimination." The lawsuit addresses only part of the estimated $12 billion of NIH research projects that have been cut, but in its emergency appeal, the Trump administration also took aim at nearly two dozen other times judges have stood in the way of its funding cuts. Solicitor General D John Sauer said judges shouldn't be considering those cases under an earlier Supreme Court decision that cleared the way for teacher-training programme cuts. He says they should go to federal claims court instead. But the plaintiffs, 16 Democratic state attorneys general and public-health advocacy groups, argued that research grants are fundamentally different from the teacher-training contracts and couldn't be sent to claims court. Halting studies midway can also ruin the data already collected and ultimately harm the country's potential for scientific breakthroughs by disrupting scientists' work in the middle of their careers, they argued. US District Judge William Young judge in Massachusetts agreed, finding the abrupt cancellations were arbitrary and discriminatory. 'I've never seen government racial discrimination like this," Young, an appointee of Republican President Ronald Reagan, said at a hearing in June. He later added: 'Have we no shame."
