Karnataka HC stays Congress's case against Amit Malviya, Arnab Goswami
The interim order in this case was passed by a single-judge vacation bench of Justice S Rachaiah. The matter is set to be heard again on June 20.
Swaroop B N, the head of the Indian Youth Congress's legal cell, had filed a complaint in this case at Bengaluru's High Ground police station. The FIR under sections 192 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, under charges related to provocation to cause riot and insult to provoke breach of the peace, had alleged that Malviya and Goswami had made an attempt to malign the Congress by circulating the claim that the Istanbul Congress Center building was the party's office.
In his petition before the high court, Malviya urged that the case be quashed and the investigation be stayed in the interim. His counsel argued that the opinions expressed on the issue of the Congress having an office in Turkey during a programme were unrelated to the Istanbul Congress Center issue, with the image of the same having been inadvertently posted.
In a corrigendum published on Tuesday evening on X, Republic TV said that 'an incorrect image was inadvertently used, erroneously depicting a building as the Congress office in Turkey by a video editor on the digital desk due to a technical error…The image had no connection to the content or context of the said video. This clip was not broadcast on Arnab Goswami's debate show on 15th May 2025 or thereafter, and was not taken on-air, nor was the said erroneous image in any way related to the subject matter being discussed.'
Congress general secretary in charge of communication, Jairam Ramesh, had stated on social media that he hoped that the court would consider the damage caused by 'repeated and deliberate malicious acts of these habitual offenders'.
The controversy broke out amid heightened tensions between India and Turkey, sparked by the latter's support for Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and India's military response, Operation Sindoor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's failure to mention the country's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru's name in his Independence Day speech was 'disturbing', according to veteran Maharashtra politician and Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Pawar, who heads his own faction of the Nationalist Congress Party. 'I heard the Prime Minister's speech from the Red Fort. It was very disturbing that he did not mention Nehru in his entire speech… Nehru gave important years of his youth to the freedom struggle of India. After Independence, he led the country and spread the message of peace worldwide. Even after his immense contribution, his name was not taken by the Prime Minister, which was unfortunate,' the NCP(SP) leader said during an event in Pune. 'Fight to save democracy' On the Opposition protest against the Election Commission, Mr. Pawar said, 'The present situation of politics is challenging. It is not a healthy sign for democracy.' He added that this was the first time 300 MPs had come together for a peaceful protest. 'It included [Congress leaders] Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and members from other parties as well, but we were detained and taken to the police station. The fight is to save democracy. If those in the government do not find it important, then we, as Opposition, will have to keep raising our voice,' he said. A history lesson on choosing unity Mr. Pawar, who served multiple terms as Maharashtra Chief Minister while he was a Congressman, recalled how that party had once prioritised unity for ideological reasons. After the Emergency, the grand old party had split into the Congress (Indira) and the Swarn Singh Congress. At the time, Mr. Pawar had remained in the Swarn Singh Congress with his mentor Yashwantrao Chavan, but neither side had a clear majority in the elections that followed 'Eventually, we came together and made Vasantdada [Patil] the Chief Minister. However, many of us young workers had a resentment against Congress (I), since we were aligned with Chavan saheb. So there was a gap. Dada tried to bridge it, but we opposed it,' Mr. Pawar said. 'I was among the key opponents. As a result, we decided to bring down the government and we did. I became the Chief Minister,' he added. Ten years later, the factions had reunited. When a meeting was called to decide the next CM, many names were discussed, including Ramrao Adik and Shivajirao Nilangekar, before Mr. Pawar was chosen. 'Imagine the same leader whose government I brought down, put all that aside and chose unity for ideology. That was the kind of large-hearted leadership we had in the Congress,' the former CM said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address BJP's booth committee conference in Tirunelveli on August 22: L. Murugan
Union Home Minister is set to make yet another political visit to Tamil Nadu on August 22 when he would address the BJP's booth committee conference in Tirunelveli. Disclosing this to journalists on Sunday in Chennai, party leader and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan said: 'BJP state president Nainar Nagendran will preside over the meeting. Booth agents from five parliamentary constituencies including Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Virudhunagar will participate in the first such conference. We are planning to hold more conferences as we progress.' In response to a query on Chief Minister M K Stalin's criticism of the alliance, Mr. Murugan said the AIADMK-BJP alliance is going strong. To another question about a few well known personalities quitting AIADMK and joining DMK recently, he said it is quite a common occurrence and claimed DMK leaders are in touch with the BJP. However, Mr. Murugan refused to share further details and said they would be known in coming months. On the recent searches by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) at the premises of State Rural Development Minister I Periyasamy, he contended the agency functions independently based on available inputs. Mr. Murugan criticised VCK founder and MP Thol. Thirumavalavan on the recent protest by a section of conservancy workers in Chennai and alleged he 'was not raising issues relating to Dalits during the DMK regime'. The Union government has given ₹6626 crore for the state's railway projects in 2025-26, while during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance regime between 2009-2014, this allocation was ₹879 crore, he said. Mr. Murugan added under the Amrit Bharat Railway Stations Scheme, work is being carried out at a fast pace to upgrade 77 railway stations in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of ₹2,948 crore. The Minister said work of laying new tracks for a distance of 2,587 km is under way at an estimated cost of ₹33,467 crore, and 10 new railway lines, 3 broad gauge railway lines and 9 double-track lines are being constructed.

Inaccuracies flagged in Class IV textbook
After an error in the teacher text for Class IV Environmental Science kicked up a row, inaccuracies in English and Malayalam Environmental Science textbooks for students have also been flagged. In the Malayalam medium 'Parisara Padhanam' textbook, Chapter II titled 'India Ente Rajyam' has an activity in which students have to write the names of the leaders related to certain facts. A query requires students to name the first woman president of the Indian National Congress with a descriptor terming her the 'Nightingale of India.' The answer would be Sarojini Naidu, but she was the first Indian woman president of the Congress. Annie Besant was the first woman president of the INC. Similarly, the textbook asks students to name the person who formed the Indian National Army and fought against the British with a descriptor that says 'Netaji.' However, Subhas Chandra Bose revived the INA; it was founded by Mohan Singh. A map of India too has inaccuracies, with Assam finding no mention. SCERT Director Jayaprakash R.K. says the errors in textbooks have come to their notice. For instance, the question on the Congress woman president inadvertently left out the word Indian. Again, the map did not leave out Assam; only its name went missing. Teachers had also been given instructions during their training regarding the errors that had cropped up. The printed textbooks, though, continue to carry the factual error. He said that usually when errors in textbooks come to their attention after printing, these are immediately corrected on the SCERT website. Teachers are then informed about it during their next cluster training. However, when the SCERT website was checked, it was found that the correction had been made only in the Malayalam textbook, while the English version still asked the name of the first woman to become president of the Indian National Congress, not the first Indian woman. Similarly, the Malayalam textbook online asks students to name the person who reorganised the Indian National Army and fought against the British, but English one does not mention reorganised; only that he formed the INA. Case of Assam The map in the Malayalam textbook online fails to mention Assam, though its capital Dispur is marked. Both Assam and its capital are marked in the English textbook. Dr. Jayaprakash reiterated that directions to make corrections in the text online had been given as soon as it came to the SCERT's attention. The Kerala School Teachers' Association alleged a deliberate bid to rake up a controversy. Necessary corrections had been made in the textbooks online, it said. Asked about steps to correct the errors in the printed textbook, organisation general secretary T.K.A. Shafi said an option was to make available to students the relevant pages with the corrections. It had been done in the past, but no such decision had been taken as yet, he said. Recently, the teachers' handbook for Environmental Science for Class IV had mentioned that freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose fled to Germany 'fearing' the British. After the sentence kicked up a storm, the SCERT corrected it.
