In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mohan questioned the project's intent and accessibility, calling it a private expressway for the privileged. 'Tunnel road final DPR quietly drops bus lanes, once again making it clear that the tunnel is only for those rich people who can afford ₹660 toll, not for the common Bengalurean. On one hand, they talk of free bus rides; on the other, they erase bus infrastructure itself,' he wrote.

Mohan went on to highlight the financial burden such a toll would impose on average citizens. 'How many Bengalureans can actually afford ₹660 a day? That's nearly ₹20,000 a month just to use this tunnel. This is not public infrastructure but a private expressway for the privileged, funded by taxpayers,' he said, calling the project "a discriminatory, exclusionary, and anti–public transport move."
Tejasvi Surya also slams project as a 'vanity scheme'
Mohan's remarks echo the long-standing criticism from Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who has labelled the tunnel project a "vanity scheme" designed to benefit only a small section of the city's elite. Surya has repeatedly argued that the ₹18,500 crore project, which proposes an 18-km tunnel connecting key neighbourhoods, disproportionately serves car-owning residents of areas like Koramangala and Sadashivnagar.
'It will benefit just 10% of Bengaluru's car-owning elite while 90% of the city continues to suffer from inadequate public transport,' Surya had said in earlier posts. He also questioned the project's staggering cost, comparing it unfavourably with other major infrastructure works like the Mumbai Coastal Road, the Atal Tunnel, and the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway. 'Will they build it with golden bricks?' he asked in a previous social media post.
With several leaders from the opposition party expressing strong opposition to the project, the tunnel road proposal continues to face growing scrutiny, not only over its feasibility and cost, but also over its lack of inclusivity and departure from the city's stated commitment to strengthening public transport.

HC quashes her plea, Kangana to face defamation trial in Bathinda
The Punjab and Haryana High Court Friday dismissed a petition filed by actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut seeking quashing of summons issued to her by a court in Bathinda in a defamation complaint. Ranaut will now stand trial in the defamation case before the Judicial Magistrate in Bathinda. The case is based on complaint against Kangana filed by Mahinder Kaur (73) of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Punjab's Bathinda district in 2021. Mahinder Kaur, who had been protesting against the now repealed three farm laws, had alleged that the actor defamed her in a retweet she shared on the Twitter (now X) by identifying her wrongly as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh fame. Quashing the petition, Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya said that there are specific allegations against Ranaut that 'false and defamatory imputations by her in the retweet have dented the respondent's reputation and lowered her in her own estimation, as also in the eyes of others'. The bench specifically noted the absence of any apology from Ranaut. 'It is evident from the evidence led by the complainant that the accused made the impugned defamatory remarks without going into the truthfulness thereof and furthermore, she even failed to tender any apology to the complainant after knowing the truth,' the court held. Kaur had filed criminal complaint before the Judicial Magistrate First Class in Bathinda on January 5, 2021 under Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deal with defamation and its punishment, respectively. The controversy centers on a retweet by Ranaut of a post originally made by Advocate Gautam Yadav, which included a picture of Kaur accompanied by the remark, 'is available in 100 rupees.' Ranaut shared the tweet alleging that the 'Shaheen Bagh dadi' also joined the farmers' agitation at various border points of the national capital. The retweet, which reached Ranaut's millions of followers, was deemed defamatory by Kaur, who argued it tarnished her reputation and character. Following the recording of preliminary evidence, the Magistrate issued a summoning order on February 22, 2022, directing Ranaut to face trial for the alleged offense. Ranaut filed a plea before the high court, under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, seeking quashing of complaint and also the summoning order issued by the lower court, arguing procedural irregularities and lack of intent to defame. Dismissing Ranaut's plea, Justice Dahiya held that the summoning order was 'well-reasoned' and based on sufficient prima facie evidence establishing the ingredients of defamation under Sections 499 and 500 IPC. The court found that the retweet, which contained 'serious allegations against the person and character of the complainant,' met these criteria. It further noted that Ranaut, as a public figure with a substantial social media following, had 'extra responsibility on her shoulders to verify the truthfulness of the remarks made by her.' The judgment highlighted that Ranaut 'failed to tender any apology to the complainant after knowing the truth,' reinforcing the Magistrate's decision to proceed with the case. The judge also dismissed the argument that the Director of TCIPL (Twitter Communications India Private Limited) had not sent a report sought by the Magistrate. The court clarified that since the Magistrate had conducted an inquiry and was satisfied with the preliminary evidence, the absence of the TCIPL report did not invalidate the summoning order. The court also rejected the contention by Ranaut that the retweet was made in 'good faith'. Ranaut's counsel also argued that the Magistrate's reference to the retweet as a 'tweet' indicated a lack of application of mind. The court dismissed this as a minor error, stating, 'Merely because the Magistrate wrongly mentioned the petitioner's retweet as tweet in the impugned order, it cannot be said that the order is unsustainable.' Finally, Ranaut's counsel pointed out that the complaint was filed only against her and not against Advocate Yadav, whose original tweet was retweeted. The court found this argument irrelevant, noting that the complainant's decision to pursue Ranaut did not negate the prima facie evidence of defamation.

PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram project submitted to Telangana CM
The PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram project was submitted to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday and it is likely to come up in the next Cabinet meeting. Principal Secretary, Irrigation and Command Area Development, Rahul Bojja, submitted the report to the Chief Minister in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Immediately after the report's submission, the government constituted a committee with Secretaries of the Irrigation, Law and General Administration Departments to study the report. The Committee is likely to complete the exercise and submit its report to the government, to be taken up in the State Cabinet on August 4. Later, the Chief Minister held a preliminary discussion on the report. It is learnt that the PC Ghose Commission has made it clear in its report about failures in the construction of the barrages of Kaleshwaram project and said faults were seen from the lowest level to the highest level in the government. The Commission apparently felt that norms were thrown to the winds and works were done not professionally, by according to the whims and fancies of the individuals. The decisions at the engineering and construction level were taken due to pressure from the top officials and political bosses. Violations were found right from the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Committee, which was appointed to study the construction of the Kaleshwaram project comprehensively, including structural and procedural lapses and violations of norms in administrative decisions, submitted its report to the Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja on Thursday.
