MLB stars left stunned as young kid brutally tackled by security after rushing onto the field

Daily Maila day ago
Stadium security guards have traditionally gone in for the tackle whenever fans rush the field at Major League Baseball games.
And as one young boy learned in San Diego on Tuesday, the modus operandi goes unchanged when the infiltrator is a child.
Viral footage from the Padres' 5-1 win over the San Francisco Giants shows the boy circling San Diego right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. as security closed in around him.
Standing perfectly still, Tatis watched as one guard finally got two hands on the boy as another colleague lowered his head for the tackle. Consequently, the boy and several security guards came crashing to the turf amid a chorus of boos from the crowd.
And those boos weren't directed at the child, who interrupted the game in the eighth inning, but rather at the overzealous security guards.
There were also reactions among the players, including Padres reliever Jason Adam, who grimaced as the tackle was made.

Tatis, however, remained stoic as the child was dragged off by security.
Another fan would rush the field in the ninth inning, but she appeared slightly older than the boy who'd been apprehended earlier.
Daily Mail has reached out to San Diego police and Padres spokespeople for more information.
Five-time All-Star Adam Jones reacted online, writing: 'Anyone who runs on the field should be fined 10k or harsher. No space for it in baseball.
'This looks like a kid who shook the hell outta the security. But I'd be fining his parents,' he added.
It's unclear if the parents were in attendance at the game.
Neither of the field invaders on Tuesday have been identified publicly.
It was the second straight game in which Padres fans interfered with play.
On Monday, San Diego's Xander Bogaerts had a home run overturned because a fan had reached over the fence to catch it. The Padres would ultimately drop their fourth straight, 4-3.
Wednesday's 5-1 win put the Padres two games behind the Dodgers in the National League West. The team also has a 3.5-game cushion in the Wild Card chase.

Florida gymnastics coach gets 12 years for sexually assaulting underage girls who were his students

A South Florida gymnastics coach accused of sexually assaulting at least three underage girls who were his students was sentenced to 12 years in prison as part of a plea deal on Thursday. Oscar Olea, 40, reached the deal with prosecutors last week, but the state attempted to withdraw it after two of the three victims said they were dissatisfied with the terms. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Alberto Milian denied the request to void the deal and accepted Olea's guilty plea on two counts of lewd and lascivious battery/sexual activity and two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a specified minor. Olea was arrested in February 2024 following a lengthy investigation. Olea was working as a gymnastics instructor in Key Biscayne in 2011 when the assaults began, prosecutors said. One of the victims was around 12, while the other two were 16. Two other young girls, ages 4 and 7, also came forward with accusations against Olea, but prosecutors declined to pursue charges because of inconsistencies in their statements, court records show.

Iconic heavy metal rocker dead at 51

Brent Hinds, the former singer-guitarist for the Grammy-winning heavy metal band Mastodon, has died in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta aged 51. Hinds, who left Mastodon after 25 years in March 2025, was killed on Wednesday when his Harley-Davidson collided with a BMW SUV around 11.35pm per Atlanta News First. The Atlanta Police Department said in a report the driver of the SUV failed to yield while making a turn - with Hinds found 'unresponsive' at the scene and later pronounced dead by medics. 'The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased' the report states. 'The other driver involved, a female who occupied a BMW SUV remained on scene. The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances. 'Preliminary investigation indicates the male was traveling West on Boulevard. The female operating the BMW SUV failed to yield while turning left and collided into the male victim who was operating the Harley Davidson. The investigation remains active at this time.' The band paid an emotional tribute to Hinds in an Instagram statement which read: 'We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. 'We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. 'Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time. RIP Brent.' Mastodon had three albums rise into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart and two that topped the Rock Album chart - Emperor of Sand in 2017 and Once More ´round the Sun in 2014. Hinds left the band in March 2025. No reason for the departure was given. The band said they had 'mutually decided to part ways,' but comments made by Hinds on Instagram indicated a rocky relationship with the members of his former band. 'We´re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we´ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,' the band said at the time.

Tinder date rapist who assaulted woman he met at Soho House is SPARED jail after claiming he wants to be a good boyfriend

A man who raped a woman he met on Tinder following their first date at Soho House was spared jail time after he claimed he wants to be a good boyfriend. William Hathaway, 33, was sentenced to therapy and 10 years of probation on Tuesday after he was convicted of raping a woman at his Manhattan apartment in 2020. In a bizarre defense, Hathaway told the court he should be spared jail time because he is now looking for a serious relationship and wants to have a positive future. 'Since my arrest, I've tried to respond to this experience in ways that reflect loyalty and responsibility,' he told the court. 'I now date with the intention of long term relationships... I want to be a good boyfriend, a good husband, a good father one day.' While prosecutors had asked for the maximum sentence of four years in prison, a judge decided to go with a slap on the wrist. 'I'm not sure if this sentence is what's the right answer or should you be sitting in a jail cell for a while to get a sense of what incarceration is about,' Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Josh Hanshaft, according to the New York Post. 'But I do find the probationary sentence will at least get you the help so you do not hurt another individual again.' Hathaway, who now lives in Miami, must enroll in a sex offender treatment program and register as a sex offender as part of his sentence. A jury convicted Hathaway of rape in the third degree in April. Prosecutors said Hathaway, then 27, met the 23-year-old victim on the dating app Tinder. The two met in person a few days later at the exclusive members club Soho House on February, 15, 2020, before Hathaway took the victim back to his West Village apartment and raped her without a condom. The victim said in court before the sentencing that Hathaway 'took her voice and dignity' when he 'decided to do whatever he wanted' with her. She added that she has battled an alcohol addiction and suicidal thoughts since she was raped. Prosecutors said Hathaway and the victim first had consensual sex but that he did not stop when she asked him to. They told the court the victim told Hathaway to stop at least five times as she pushed on his chest but was ignored. 'To not sentence this defendant to a period of incarceration for his conduct would be adhering the outdated concept that there needs to be some form of violence or force to constitute rape,' said Manhattan District Attorney Ashley Durkin. 'He took away a part of me that I can never have back,' the victim told the court. 'For what? To please himself. All he was thinking about was himself.' Hathaway, on his part, said he was simply trying to have a 'fun date' and apologized to the victim during the sentencing hearing. His lawyer told the court the victim had withdrawn her consent 'approximately one minute' before the rape ended as he asked the judge to spare his client from serving prison time. According to the Post, Hathaway was charged with a similar offense in the summer of 2020 but was acquitted in a 2023 trial. The jury and judge in the case he was convicted in would not have been aware of the previous case as it was sealed.
