‘Pay us what you owe us': WNBA All-Stars make statement with warmup shirts
The shirts come after the players and the league failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement at an in-person meeting Thursday. The league's players opted out of their last CBA in October, and are looking for a better revenue-sharing model, increased salaries, improved benefits and a softer salary cap.
'I'm just so inspired by the amount of players that showed up, the engagement that was there,' WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike said. 'That's really what it's all about. Because the more that happens, the more that we're going to be able to get things done. I think today we're going to be able to use this conversation to start rolling the ball on things.'
After the failed negotiations, many players said there was a large discrepancy between what they wanted and what the league was offering. If a new CBA is not reached by October some players, including All-Stars Napheesa Collier and Angel Reese, have mentioned the potential of a walkout.

NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - Venus Williams has received a wild card main draw entry into the Cincinnati Open, the tournament said on Wednesday, as the 45-year-old American enjoys an age-defying return to the spotlight. Zach Edey's punishment revealed after NBA star was allegedly caught by cops speeding at 101mph
Zach Edey has reportedly agreed to pay $639.50 after the NBA star cut a plea deal with prosecutors to settle his reckless driving case. The Memphis Grizzlies center, who stands at 7ft 4ins, was charged after cops allegedly caught him speeding at 101mph in a 55mph zone on May 1. But on Wednesday, TMZ reported that the 23-year-old admitted to speeding and agreed to pay a fine. In return, the misdemeanor charge was dropped. The case first came to light last month, when it was reported that an Indiana State Trooper pulled Edey, 23, over at 7:03pm and issued him a citation. Edey, driving a Kia Sorento, reportedly told the officers that he was only travelling at that speed because he was trying to pass another vehicle. The former Purdue standout was taken ninth overall in the 2024 draft. He was a two-time national college player of the year with the Boilermakers. The incident occurred in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, which is where Purdue is based and Edey spent four seasons. It remains unclear whether the center will face any punishment from the NBA over the incident. Purdue's men's basketball team posted a photo of Edey in Mackey on May 6 where he could be seen alongside other players and alumni. Earlier this year it emerged that Edey could miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season after he underwent surgery on his left ankle. Edey needed the procedure to repair and restabilize his ankle after spraining it again during offseason training. He is slated to be evaluated again in three months, less than two weeks before the 2025-26 season opens October 21. The two-time national player of the year at Purdue missed 12 games early in the season because of a sprained left ankle. He went on to play in 66 games, making 55 starts, and averaged 9.2 points and a rookie-leading 8.3 rebounds. He was voted to the All-Rookie first team.

Rockies rookie Tanner Gordon shows up, shuts out Cardinals
July 23 - Tanner Gordon tossed six strong innings in his first start since May 28, Ezequiel Tovar homered, and the Colorado Rockies shut out the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 on Wednesday in Denver. Gordon (2-2) was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque after fellow right-hander German Marquez (bicep tendinitis) was placed on the 15-day injured list. It is the first time in 12 career starts that Gordon, a rookie who made his major league debut in July 2024, has not allowed a run. Jordan Beck, Hunter Goodman, Kyle Farmer and Austin Nola had two hits each for Colorado, which has won two straight home series after dropping the first 15 to begin the year. It was the Rockies' first home shutout in 220 games, the longest in the modern era, according to the team's broadcast. Their last home shutout was a 2-0 win over the Athletics on July 30, 2023. Willson Contreras and Jordan Walker doubled for the Cardinals, who totaled five hits and have started the second half of the season 1-5. Colorado used a barrage of one-out base hits to take control in the second inning against starter Andre Pallante. Ryan McMahon walked, Tovar flew out and Nola singled to put runners on the corners. The Rockies then used a string of singles to take the lead. Farmer knocked in McMahon with a single up the middle, Adael Amador drove in Nola with a hit to left, Tyler Freeman then brought home Farmer with a single to right and Amador scored on Mickey Moniak's single to right. Gordon ended his afternoon with two more groundouts in the sixth after Contreras' one-out double. He finished with four hits and three walks allowed with three strikeouts in his six innings. The Rockies added another run in the fifth off of Pallante when Freeman led off with a walk, went to second on Goodman's one-out single and scored on Beck's double that deflected off the glove of shortstop Masyn Winn to make it 5-0.
