PM Modi expected to participate in Yoga Day celebration in Andhra Pradesh on July 21
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to mark celebrations for the International Yoga Day, scheduled to be celebrated on June 21 in Andhra Pradesh.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister expressed happiness at witnessing people's enthusiasm ahead of the Yoga Day celebrations and said that 'Yogandhra 2025' was a commendable effort to popularise the ancient practice.
'Gladdening to see enthusiasm building up towards Yoga Day 2025. #Yogandhra2025 is a commendable effort by the people of AP to make Yoga popular. I look forward to marking Yoga Day in AP on the 21st,' PM Modi said.
'I call upon all of you to mark Yoga Day and also make Yoga a regular part of your lives,' he added.
The Prime Minister was responding to a post by Union Minister of State (MoS) Health Prataprao Jadhav, who posted on X, 'Over 2,000 yoga enthusiasts gathered at the majestic Puligundu Twin Hills near Chittoor for Yogandhra 2025, a powerful and peaceful kickoff to Andhra Pradesh's month-long lead-up to IDY2025. Surrounded by 1,000-ft rock formations, the energy was as grounded as it was uplifting.'
This year's International Yoga Day is set to be a grand celebration, with Visakhapatnam hosting a record-breaking yoga event. On June 21, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the celebrations, which will feature over 2.5 lakh people performing yoga together at a single location -- an attempt to set a new world record.
The grand event will take place along the 27-kilometre-long coastal road of Visakhapatnam, which will serve as the venue for this massive yoga session. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to join PM Modi for the yoga performance.
Reflecting on the journey of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Modi remarked that the first International Yoga Day was observed on June 21, 2015, and has since evolved into a global celebration of wellness. He described it as India's precious gift to humanity, beneficial for generations to come.
As the world prepares for International Yoga Day 2025, the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' is at the centre of this year's celebrations. Numerous initiatives and events are planned around this theme: Coordinated yoga demonstrations at 10,000 locations, aiming for a world record.
There will be global partnerships with 10 countries to hold yoga sessions at iconic landmarks, along with the creation of 1,000 yoga parks to promote community participation.
Special yoga programmes for differently-abled individuals, senior citizens, children, and marginalised groups will also be there. Further, an impact assessment of yoga's role in public health over the last decade. (ANI)

'Narender surrendered to Adani, China': Congress ups ante with fresh jibe at PM The Congress on Thursday upped the ante with its 'Narender-surrender' jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he 'surrendered' before billionaire Gautam Adani as well as to China. There was no immediate response from the government or the Adani Group over the Congress's accusations, but the business conglomerate has, in the past, rejected all such allegations against it. Odisha police turn Medha Patkar, activists away from Rayagada where resistance against bauxite mining simmering Several activists led by Medha Patkar were stopped by the Odisha Police and turned away after they arrived in Rayagada district to address a public meeting on World Environment Day, early Thursday. District authorities cited potential law and order concerns, stating that the activists' presence could inflame tensions in the region, where local tribals are opposing bauxite mining in the Sijimali Reserve. 'As soon as we got off the train in the early hours of Thursday, a large contingent of police personnel stopped us and said we were not allowed to leave the railway station. We are not criminals. We had come to Rayagada to speak about the importance of protecting the environment,' said Medha Patkar over phone from Rayagada. The company has been seeking a steady supply of raw material, making Sijimali a key target. Similar resistance had earlier derailed a mining project in the Niyamgiri hills, where the Dongria Kondh, a particularly vulnerable tribal group, successfully opposed plans to mine bauxite. The Odisha Mining Corporation, a state-run PSU, was to supply the ore to Vedanta. In Rayagada, tensions have been simmering around the Sijimali deposit for the past couple of years. Tribals allege that the district police, under pressure from the company, have been using force to suppress the people's movement against mining. An order signed by the Rayagada District Collector has barred 24 activists from entering the district for two months starting June 4. They have also been prohibited from participating in any protests or sit-ins. The Eastern Ghats hill ranges that cut across Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Koraput districts are rich in bauxite. Apart from Vedanta, private players such as the Adani Group and the Aditya Birla Group are either exploring or have already established infrastructure to mine the mineral. The National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navaratna public sector unit, has a strong presence in Koraput district, where it is already extracting bauxite from the Panchpatmali reserve and is preparing to mine the Pottangi reserve. New Delhi: While the Modi government completes 11 years in power, 'Garib Kalyan' has remained at the core of governance as reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oft-repeated pitch of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas'. Much like Ujjwala Yojana, DBT, Jan Dhan Yojana and others, Anganwadi centres have seen upgradation and transformation for the first time, under Prime Minister Modi. Former Union Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday explained in detail how the Anganwadis remained "institutions of no relevance" during UPA rule but became digitised and modernised under the Modi government. The Modi Story, a popular social media handle on X, shared a video of Smriti Irani shedding light on the differences between the BJP and Congress regimes in their outlook, focus and governance regarding Anganwadis. In the video, Irani, the former Women and Child Development Minister, said there is too much of a difference between boasting about bringing change and delivering it on the ground. "PM Modi didn't just speak about modernisation but delivered it. He not just spoke about revamping old ways of working in the Anganwadis but also brought structural changes to ensure that the real change happens on the ground," she said. Lamenting the ignorance and negligence of Anganwadi centres during the Congress regime, she said that it remained in power for so many years, but Anganwadis were never on its list of priorities. Recalling the range of initiatives to strengthen Anganwadis, Irani said that under Prime Minister Modi, more than 11 lakh Anganwadis received smart devices and 12 lakh growth monitoring devices, a first in the country's history. Over 10 lakh Anganwadi workers were trained digitally and offline, she further informed, calling it a true example of turning vision into action. Notably, Anganwadi Services are one of the flagship programmes of the government providing early childhood care and development of the beneficiaries i.e. children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a large network of Anganwadi workers (AWW) and Helpers (AWH). Under POSHAN Abhiyaan, the Aanganwadi workers (AWWs) have been technologically empowered with smartphones. A total of 11.03 lakhs smartphones have been procured by States/UTs. In a first-of-its-kind initiative this year, the Women and Child Development Ministry decided to extend childcare services through Anganwadi cum Creche (AWCC).

As the waqf portal is set to go live, TG Waqf Board ‘waiting for clarity'
Hyderabad With the Union government all set to launch the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED), a portal that seeks to collate documents connected to waqf properties, purportedly for managing them better, the Telangana State Waqf Board (TGSWB) is still awaiting clarity. 'We are aware that the portal is going to be launched tomorrow. But we are still waiting for clear guidelines from the Ministry of Minority Affairs about what all documents are required, and which ones will be accepted. As far as we know, the portal will accept document uploads for the next six months,' TGSWB Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini told The Hindu. A key concern, Mr. Hussaini said, that still remains, is the documentation of old places of worship such as those belonging to the Qutb Shahi period. 'We are yet to see what how to deal with documents connected to such masjids. With the portal going live from tomorrow, and in the absence of documents of a large number of Qutb Shahi masjids, we have to check as to how we should proceed,' he said. Meanwhile, others from the TGSWB pointed out that the portal is likely to have a three tier system. First, the mutawalli (manager of a waqf institution) will have to upload documents, for instance, a gazette notification. This is then verified by an officer at the TGSWB. The final approving authority would be the Chief Executive Officer. 'The previous online management system – the Waqf Asset Management System – will not be in use. Moreover data from this will not be migrated to the new portal. Ideally, it would have been better had the Central government waited for the Supreme Court judgment before going ahead with the portal,' an official said. Meanwhile, the TGSWB is continuing its efforts to strengthen documentation of properties in its custody. The board's CEO, Mohammed Asadullah, wrote letters to government agencies, such as the Chief Commissioner Land Administration, and the Telangana State Archives and Research Institute, and sent staff to obtain copies of documents of properties considered waqf.
