Ravens LB Roquan Smith on Week 1 vs. Bills: Revenge a dish best served cold

Yahoo28-05-2025

When the 2025 NFL schedule dropped this week, the first thing most Buffalo Bills fans noticed was their Week 1 game.
On the NFL's opening weekend, the Bills will be hosting the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football. It's a rematch of last year's divisional round at the same location, in which the Bills won a close one, 27-25.

These are two teams that have some recent history and they are both chasing the feeling of being on top of the league at season's end.
We didn't have to wait long to see the Bills play a serious contender. Although the Week 1 matchup doesn't have as high of a stakes as the divisional round on a frigid night in Buffalo, it is one of the best matchups of the entire NFL season.
In fact, in NFL.com's ranking of the top-10 prime-time games in 2025, Bills vs. Ravens took the top spot.
Showcasing Josh Allen's Bills vs. Lamar Jackson's Ravens to the world is an electric way to kick off the NFL season. But, why wait till then to get fired up about it when you can get your popcorn ready in May?

Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith joined NFL Network this week to share his thoughts on the Week 1 game.
"Just how I like it," Smith said. "Revenge is best served as a cold dish. It will be nice to get up to Buffalo and get a little payback for those guys from the end of the year."
Although the Ravens blew out the Bills in the regular season last year, 35-10, Buffalo came through when they had to have it.
"Those guys won the game fair and square last year, and you know that misery sets in all offseason," Smith said. "Just knowing that we have everything it takes to be the best team in this NFL... and it's gonna start up there in Buffalo... just like everything we've gone through in the offseason and how the season ended and just unleashing it on those guys... and I'm sure they have the same plan."

The NFL doesn't need to do much marketing for this game as the vast majority of NFL fans will be tuned in, but Smith is getting the people going four months early.
With the two most recent league MVPs squaring off, if this one is anything like the divisional round we'll be in for an instant classic.
The Bills opened as 1.5-point favorites for Week 1, the first of 17 games that they are currently favored in.

Miami Dolphins do not close door on possible Jaire Alexander addition

MIAMI GARDENS — Will the Miami Dolphins sign free agent Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander? "Anything could happen," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said on the first day of mandatory mini-camp. Star Jalen Ramsey is not present. It's an excused absence as the Dolphins work to trade him. Advertisement The Packers cut Alexander because he wouldn't accept a pay reduction. He is an outstanding athlete but has been injured in three of the past four seasons. Miami Dolphins need replacement for planned Jalen Ramsey trade The Dolphins need a cornerback. But it's hard to know Alexander's interest and pay demands. "I think our starting point is we're considering everything," McDaniel said. "That's our jobs to. My major focus is on the team. Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa awarded for taking top ‘ownership' of team

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has led the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage and passing yards. What could bring Tagovailoa to another level is holding teammates accountable like never before. Advertisement Tagovailoa, 27, is about to begin his sixth NFL season. He is a husband and father of two. And Tagovailoa is in the same offense, under the same head coach for a fourth consecutive season. There are no excuses. And it appears Tua is embracing the challenge to take complete command. MORE STEPPING UP: Dolphins' Austin Jackson sheds 'bust' label, assumes role of offensive line leader In the second week of organized team activities, coach Mike McDaniel awarded Tua an orange practice jersey for his recent performance. '(Tua) had the most ownership of all the players on each and every down,' McDaniel said. Tua Tagovailoa takes ownership of Miami Dolphins McDaniel explained that Tua had responded well when teammates were not aligned properly. Advertisement 'He really had command and resolve,' McDaniel said. Tua cannot defer to anyone in 2025. Not Tyreek Hill or Jonnu Smith or Aaron Brewer or Austin Jackson. Terron Armstead has retired. Raheem Mostert is in Las Vegas. It must be the quarterback setting a tone and calling out those who are not on board with the plan. (Photo by) Tua Tagovailoa more decisive than ever in Year 6 with Dolphins Quarterbacks growing into a leadership role is a storyline for every quarterback, every season. But it is certainly relevant for Tua, who came into the league with a propensity to defer to older players. 'Tua in Year 6, he's definitely a lot more confident and decisive on and off the field,' tackle Austin Jackson said. 'He knows what people are supposed to be doing in terms of training. He knows what we're doing on the field. He knows how to take care of his body. Advertisement 'He knows how to unite guys, bring us together for team camaraderie and stuff, just to get together. He's a full-blown leader, and I think he's showing that he wants to take control of this team and he is.' Miami Dolphins impressed by Zach Wilson's 'supreme arm talent'

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has been impressed by the mental toughness of backup quarterback Zach Wilson, who once flamed out with the New York Jets as a No. 2 overall pick. "He looks like a guy that has been through some s--- and found his way through it," McDaniel said on the first day of mandatory minicamp. Advertisement Wilson, 25, spent last season resetting with the Denver Broncos. He did not play though he flashed in the preseason and benefitted from working with Sean Payton. It was a bit of a healing process, not too dissimilar from when Tua Tagovailoa emerged from the Brian Flores era with scars. Zach Wilson has 'been through some s---,' says Mike McDaniel "There's residuals to people just in general that have gone through things," McDaniel said. "He's come close to about as much scrutiny as one could have. You're a top three draft pick in New York City. Well, I mean I think Joe Namath figured that out and everybody else is like, well, this is a lot. But that's what I see, is a guy that is playing football with the empowerment of, 'You know what? I'm strong enough to handle anything.'" Advertisement It's hard not to miss Wilson's cannon arm in practice. Wilson fires lasers. But playing quarterback in the NFL is obviously about much more than that. New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson tries to elude the pressure of Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Christian Wilkins during the first half at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Dec. 17, 2023. "A guy who is continually working at his craft, who has supreme arm talent, it's cool to watch him grow, particularly in our offense, because guys with arm talent always throw it late," McDaniel said. "You have a stronger arm, I'll just wait and see it. Go back to like John Elway and dudes with cannons." Dolphins look to polish former No. 2 pick Zach Wilson McDaniel and the staff are pushing Wilson to improve footwork, timing and rhythm. "I'm gonna challenge the guy," McDaniel said.
