According to the latest update from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across Uttar Pradesh during the last week of May. In its latest forecast, the IMD stated that both eastern and western parts of the state will experience rain and strong winds over the next 48 hours.
On Thursday (May 29), rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in around 60 districts of the state. However, districts including Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Sonbhadra, and Ghazipur are likely to remain dry.
During this period, strong winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour. Both eastern and western UP are expected to witness these weather conditions, which are likely to persist on 30 and 31 May as well.
Professor Manoj Kumar Srivastava, a meteorologist at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), explained that the current weather changes are due to a cyclonic circulation and a western disturbance over the region. These factors have brought relief from intense heat and are likely to cause rain and thunderstorms in several districts. These conditions are expected to continue for the next 48 to 72 hours.
Rain Recorded In Select Districts
On Tuesday, light rain was recorded in Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. However, other regions in the state experienced intense heat, causing discomfort for residents.
Other cities, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Hamirpur, and Agra also recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, leaving people distressed due to the humid and oppressive weather conditions.
