Odisha Govt to establish water corporation for improved drinking water management: Minister
Addressing a press conference, Naik emphasised that clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental necessity, and the government is fully committed to ensuring its availability to every citizen of Odisha.
To maintain the quality of drinking water, the minister said that 527,570 tubewells and sanitary wells, 21,401 production wells, and 15,155 overhead tanks across the state are being regularly cleaned and maintained.
Naik also informed that out of the 29,512 tubewells sanctioned last year, construction of 20,891 has been nearly completed.
Providing an update on large-scale infrastructure, he said that out of 207 ongoing mega drinking water projects, 18 have been completed so far. Work on the remaining projects has been expedited and is under direct supervision.
He added that strict accountability measures are being implemented, and any deviation from standards or deadlines will invite action. Agencies failing to meet deadlines will face penalties, and responsible officers and employees will also be held accountable.
In a significant development, all villages in Nuapada district have been included under the 'Har Ghar Jal Yojana,' a milestone towards ensuring safe drinking water in rural areas, the minister said.
To fast-track progress, he said specific targets have been set, with 21 projects to be completed by August, 11 by the end of September, and another 22 by December 2025.

Delhi Minister Indraj holds public hearing at RCS office
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Delhi's Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh today conducted a public hearing at the office of the Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS), Delhi, taking note of the issues and complaints of people. He gave clear directions to the concerned officials to take public grievances seriously and ensure their time-bound redressal. During the public hearing, the Minister instructed departmental officers to prioritize applications related to Urban Cooperative Banks, Group Housing Societies, and Thrift & Credit Societies. He further directed that every complaint must be resolved within the stipulated time frame, and that complainants must be duly informed of the resolution in a transparent manner. Indraj reiterated that the core objective of the cooperation department is to provide citizens with transparent, accountable, and prompt services. In a first, under the minister's directives, a Complaint Box, Biometric System, and CCTV cameras have been installed at the office premises. While inaugurating these facilities, the cabinet minister stated that this initiative would help in the timely resolution of complaints and also improve the functioning of the department through constructive suggestions coming from the public. Applicants and complainants attending the public hearing welcomed this initiative by the government and thanked the minister for the move. Speaking on the occasion, Indraj said that the year 2025 is being observed as the International Year of Cooperatives, and it must be made meaningful through continuous public-oriented initiatives. He emphasized that, in line with the vision of Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the department's goals should be framed around the commitment of 'Prosperity through Cooperation". India looking to capture 10% of global demand for green hydrogen: Shripad Naik
India aspires to capture 10% of the global demand for green hydrogen, which is expected to exceed 100 MMT by 2030, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik said on Tuesday (August 19, 2025). He said the ambition is to make India a major producer of green hydrogen and a global hub of its export. Speaking at an event by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Naik said that this ambition would require the country to continue innovating to 'strengthen certification and trading mechanism(s), ensure offtake certainty and unlocking green finance through instruments as viability gap funding, green bonds, and multilateral bank support.' Green Hydrogen refers to hydrogen produced using renewable energy sources like solar, wind or hydropower. Herein, the electricity generated is utilised to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Launched in 2023, the National Green Hydrogen Mission aspires to turn Indian into a global hub for production, use and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. Mr. Naik argued that, with technological advances in the realm of solar photovoltaic (PV), offshore wind and electrolyser efficiency, the cost of producing hydrogen was already coming down, and is expected to continue doing so. Earlier in his address, the MoS had pointed to integration, storage solutions, land availability and cost competitiveness being 'critical areas of focus'. 'However, these challenges are solvable,' he stated. Private sector playing a pioneering role The Minister of State said that the private sector was essaying a 'pioneering role' in the green hydrogen sector. He observed Indian companies are building gigascale projects, electrolyser manufacturing facilities, pilot projects for hydrogen mobility and blending and refuelling infrastructure. 'Many are also forging global partnerships to ensure cost competitiveness and position India as a reliable exporter in a global market expected to exceed 100 MMT by 2030,' he stated. Use of Green Hydrogen in critical sectors Mr. Naik enumerated that the government has launched pilot projects, exploring the direct use of green hydrogen, in critical sectors, as steel, transport and shipping. 23 projects have been sanctioned as part of their research and development initiatives, with more than 100 being evaluated for establishing centre of excellence. The Union Minister further enumerated about setting up of green hydrogen testing facility in the country. He informed that 3 projects have been awarded. Furthermore, Mr. Naik stated, that more than one hundred green hydrogen standards and protocols have been adopted or are under development to ensure 'safety and quality'.
