Warhammer's free new game makes typing grimdark
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun – Words of Vengeance is a new typing game based on Warhammer 40,000 and it's available now for free on PC via Steam. The dark sci-fi spin on a typing teacher was shadow-dropped during a series of announcements made during the latest Warhammer Skulls Showcase. Also shown was a trailer for Boltgun 2, a sequel to Auroch Digital's first-person shooter the new typing game is based on.
Words of Vengeance follows in the footsteps of games like Typing of the Dead where you type on-screen prompts as quickly and as accurately as you can to defeat enemies and progress in on-rails levels. It's set in the world of Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun and uses the same pixelated 3D aesthetic with plenty of blood and violence, except the blood is spilled by typing.
As a fan of mechanical keyboards, I personally love occasionally firing up typing tests to hear what the latest keyboard I'm obsessing over sounds and feels like. But as much as I love Monkeytype or Keybr, an actual typing game offers a different kind of fun. The thought of going full boomer-shooter with my proper grammar and punctuation exercises just has me more stoked than ever. Plus, it's free.

Valmet secures Shotton Mill furnace upgrade contract in UK
Finnish company Valmet has secured a furnace upgrade and a long-term service agreement from Eren Holding for Shotton Mill in the UK. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. The order, which was included in Valmet's first-quarter orders received this year, has not had its value disclosed. This strategic move aims to enhance the mill's operations and extend the life of its bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) boiler furnace. The majority of the mill's BFB boiler furnace will be fitted with coated panels designed to protect against corrosion and erosion, prolonging the furnace's lifespan. In addition to the physical upgrade, Valmet will provide Shotton Mill with comprehensive support through a long-term service agreement, which includes site inspection services. The service agreement also includes a customised online training package for Shotton Mill's employees. Shotton Mill energy manager Mehmet Arel said: 'We are delighted to continue strengthening our partnership with Valmet as they deliver this vital furnace upgrade and long-term service agreement to Shotton Mill.' Valmet EMEA service manager Nigel Earp said: 'We are very pleased to be awarded the furnace upgrade and are looking forward to safely and successfully delivering the project for Shotton Mill. 'The service agreement will further strengthen our cooperation with the customer, enabling us to develop the mill's operations together over the coming years.' Shotton Mill is currently implementing a substantial investment programme, which includes the installation of a new containerboard production line and a tissue production line, both provided by Valmet. Once these lines are operational, the mill will possess the capability to produce 750,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of containerboard and 67,000tpa of tissue paper. In February 2025, Valmet secured a contract to supply its automation and quality management solutions to Shandong Jintianhe Paper in China. Pop star Jade Thirlwall led a crowd in a chant against author JK Rowling during her set at a London music festival celebrating LGBTQ+ culture. The former Little Mix member, now performing solo under the name JADE, encouraged thousands of fans at Mighty Hoopla on Saturday to shout 'F*** J.K. Rowling' from the main stage. Reform to begin 'Doge' audits of local councils
Reform has announced it will send its first Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) team into local authorities. The party said the first council to be audited will be Kent County Council, one of the councils the party took control of in May's local elections. In a statement released late on Sunday, party chairman said it would be "led by one of the UK's leading tech entrepreneurs", although it is not yet known who that is. The leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition in Kent said he believes it will be "more performance than substance". Reform said a team of software engineers, data analysts and forensic auditors will "visit and analyse" local authorities. It follows the US Doge, which was launched during Donald Trump's presidency to cut federal spending. Billionaire Musk was involved but has since left his position spearheading the unit.
