Monnapule Saleng will spend the upcoming Premiership season on loan at newly promoted Orbit College from Orlando Pirates — and the midfielder is delighted to return to familiar surroundings.
The move comes after months of uncertainty about his future, following a 2024/25 campaign in which he missed most of the action with the Buccaneers.
The midfielder makes his return to his former side on a season-long loan, having recently signed a two-year contract extension with Pirates. He moves in search of regular game time after falling out of favour with the Sea Robbers last season.
Orbit made history by earning promotion to the Premiership through the PSL play-offs, overcoming Cape Town City and Casric Stars to secure their place among the elite. As they prepare for their first season in the top flight, the addition of Saleng offers a major boost — bringing in a player who not only knows the club well but also has valuable experience at the highest level.

Back at the club where his career started, the Bafana Bafana attacker expressed his relief at being able to return to action after spending an extended period on the sidelines.
'I am very happy to be back home, and I thank God for giving me the strength to find my way with Orbit. I am happy they got a promotion, and coming back home brings me a lot of joy,' Saleng said.
'It wasn't an easy decision to come back, especially after having had a long season without playing. I kept on pushing myself even though I was not playing, and I kept supporting the team while waiting for my opportunity, but fortunately I got the opportunity to come back home.'
The 27-year-old added that during that challenging spell, drawing strength from his roots kept him going.
'Looking at where you come from, that is where you keep pushing and not break easily. There was motivation here and there, there were talks, but I pushed until I got the opportunity to come to Orbit and get the game time so that the next time I come back, I am fit.'
The move comes at a vital time in his career — not only does it offer a chance for regular football, but it also gives him the opportunity to push for a return to the Bafana setup ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
Orbit will be the only club representing the North West province in the Premiership, becoming the first to do so since Platinum Stars were relegated at the end of the 2017/18 season. Although Saleng knows the club well, he's aware that breaking into the starting lineup won't be guaranteed.
'The style of playing hasn't changed that much compared to three years ago,' he continued. 'There has been a few player changes but the style hasn't changed.
"The coach has shown me how he wants us to play and it has made it easy for me to adjust and the players around me have been supportive of me. My performances will talk, I know AFCON is around the corner, but my performance will do the talking.'

Former Bafana Bafana star missing for a MONTH

Over a month has passed since former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thando Mngomeni was last seen, prompting urgent appeals from his family and growing concern from South Africa's football community. Mngomeni, now 42, was last seen in mid-June, and has not made contact with family or friends since. His sudden disappearance has sparked widespread anxiety and a nationwide search effort. His brother, Thabo Mngomeni, a former Orlando Pirates midfielder, and other family members have called on the public to help trace the missing footballer. Their fears were compounded this week following the death of Zanyiwe Martins, a person close to Thando, who the family believes he would have made every effort to see if he could. In a Facebook post, family friend Mark Totoyi wrote: 'Family and friends are deeply concerned as Thando Mngomeni has been missing for almost a month now… We are appealing to anyone who might have seen him or has any information about his whereabouts to please urgently reach out to the family. Your assistance could help us bring Thando home safely.' The post has since been widely shared across social media as the search intensifies, with former team-mates and supporters joining the call for information. Despite a few leads being pursued, there have been no confirmed sightings of Mngomeni, and the silence surrounding his whereabouts is growing increasingly distressing. The Mngomeni family have requested that anyone with information to please come forward, no matter how minor it may seem. He hails from Gugulethu on the Cape Flats and is the younger brother of former Orlando Pirates player and South African international Thabo Mngomeni. Mngomeni spent a season and a half in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF and made 29 appearances before returning to South Africa claiming he could not cope living abroad. He returned to Santos after semi-retirement and impressed with some good performances during the 2007/08 season. He signed for Mamelodi Sundowns (16 matches) and moved to Bidvest Wits (43 matches) after a year and half. He played five matches for Bafana Bafana between 2004 and 2007. Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng, Saleng, Makhaula, Appollis

Orlando Pirates wrapped up their European pre-season tour with a 2-0 win over Spanish side Granada, but attention quickly shifted from the result to Relebohile Mofokeng. The 20-year-old midfielder scored in the final fixture, potentially marking the end of his Buccaneers journey. Mofokeng is drawing interest from heavyweights across the globe, including Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, Al Ahly, and FC Cincinnati. 'R100 million is like a round figure. It's more than that! The amount they were negotiating for was initially R120 million,' an insider revealed. 'You know it's not exactly what you want that you get, and that's why they are talking about the R100 million, but it's believed to be more than that.' Scouts from the Netherlands are reportedly working closely with PSV recruiters. While the Eredivisie outfit had their eyes on Iqraam Rayners, the club now views Mofokeng as a long-term investment worth pursuing. While one star could be on his way out, Monnapule Saleng has returned to Orbit College in a surprising move that has sparked debates among supporters. 'I am very happy to be back home,' said Saleng. 'I thank God for giving me strength and aligning me with a return to Orbit. Because being home is something that brings happiness.' Meanwhile, veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula is staying put. Contract talks have gone well, confirmed his agent, Sizwe Ntshangase. 'Our discussions with Pirates have gone very well, to the satisfaction of both parties. It is up to Pirates to issue an official statement.' All this comes as the Soweto giants enjoy one of their most active transfer windows in recent years, already adding more than eleven players, including exciting attacker Oswin Appollis, who seems to be settling in nicely. Kaizer Chiefs news: Nabi wants tools, Shinga questioned

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has made it crystal clear—if the club wants to see more trophies, it must first deliver the right tools. Speaking after guiding Amakhosi to a historic Nedbank Cup victory over Orlando Pirates, which ended their ten-year trophy drought, the Tunisian head coach did not shy away from what he believes must come next. 'I wouldn't be honest if I said that I'm gonna stay if the club doesn't allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season,' Nabi said. 'Because they have promised, and myself, I have promised the fans that I want to build a successful team that will compete in every competition to win trophies.' He added: 'That's the condition for me to stay because I don't feel that I want to go through what I went through this season.' As Chiefs continue their pre-season, those tools Nabi is asking for have yet to fully materialise. The club has won just one of five fixtures in their build-up to the new campaign, raising eyebrows among supporters and club legends. Yes, on the one hand they've already signed six players; but they're yet to land their marquee signing. Among those voicing concern is former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela, who has been openly critical of current left-sided defender Nkhanyiso Shinga. 'To be honest, when I look at Shinga, interesting player, but defensively, there's been question marks, in my opinion,' Masilela said. 'Even the second goal (conceded against Twente), there's a couple of times (even) in the previous games, he got beaten in one-v-one situations.' Masilela didn't hold back on the tactical flaws either. 'Your primary job as a defender is to win those duels, to be on top of the winger – that's how you gain confidence. He's comfortable on the ball, we can't argue with that. But again, him inverting most of the time, I found that it was dragging Lilepo to receive the ball too deep, more like a left-back. I couldn't understand the idea of him inverting that much.' With questions around Shinga's effectiveness and the uncertainty surrounding transfer reinforcements, the pressure is rising in Naturena.
