Heat's Tyler Herro kicks off his NBA All-Star Weekend by winning Three-Point Contest

After being eliminated in the first round of the two-round, timed shooting competition during the league's 2023 All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Herro won Saturday night's Three-Point Contest at Chase Center in San Francisco.
With the top three first-round scores form the eight-player field advancing to the championship round, Herro recorded the third-best first-round score (19) on Saturday to keep his hopes of winning the competition alive.
It then came down to Herro, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield.
But it was Herro that emerged victorious, posting a score of 24 in the final round to come away with the three-point crown.
Hield finished as the runner-up with a score of 23 and Garland came in third place with a score of 19 in the championship round.
The difference for Herro proved to be that he made both 'Starry Range' balls worth three points each in the championship round. Hield made just one of the two 'Starry Range' balls, ending up one point short of tying Herro's score.
Herro became the fifth Heat player to win the Three-Point Contest in franchise history, joining Glen Rice (1995), Jason Kapono (2007), Daequan Cook (2009) and James Jones (2011).
The Heat now stands alone as the only NBA team with five Three-Point Contest trophies. The Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics have the second most three-point crowns with four.
Herro was the Heat's only representative in the three events during this year's All-Star Saturday Night.
Herro's All-Star Weekend is already a memorable and successful one after winning Saturday's Three-Point Contest. But Herro's All-Star Weekend isn't over yet, as he'll make his first appearance in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday (8 p.m., TNT) as the Heat's lone All-Star.
Herro, 25, is averaging career-highs in points (23.9 per game), rebounds (5.5) and assists (5.5) while shooting a career-best 46.5 percent from the field this season. He's also shooting an efficient 38 percent on a career-high 9.7 three-point attempts per game and has missed just two of the Heat's 53 games this season.
TRADE REACTION
More than a week after the Jimmy Butler trade became official on Feb. 6, Herro was asked about his former teammate and one of his new teammates during All-Star Media Day on Saturday afternoon.
'Jimmy is a great leader,' Herro said when asked what the Golden State Warriors are getting in Butler. 'He leads by example. He comes in every single day with a hard hat, puts his hat on and he gets to work. He's a winner. He wants to win. So I'm sure the fans out here in San Fran and Oakland will definitely love Jimmy and we'll miss him down in Miami.'
While the Heat sent Butler to the Warriors, the Heat acquired Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson and a top-10 protected 2025 first-round pick from the Warriors and Davion Mitchell from the Toronto Raptors in return.
'I love playing with Wiggs,' Herro said Saturday when asked about Wiggins. 'I know how much he was loved out here in San Fran and how much he loved being here. So just trying to make him feel comfortable in Miami. He's only played one or two games [with us] so far. So after the break, it will be fun to get up to speed with him.'

Could that change this year? Where it stands: Plenty of AL players are over the threshold, but just one NL player — Dodgers catcher Will Smith — is hitting comfortably above .300 at the moment (.325). The problem, though, is that he's right on the edge of not having enough plate appearances to qualify. In order to qualify for the batting title, you must accumulate at least 3.1 plate appearances per team game, which comes to 502 across a full season. Minneapolis — MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier (30 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks) and the Lynx held on late for a 100-93 win over the Liberty in a rematch of last year's WNBA Finals. Report: Nets to play Hapoel Jerusalem during 2025-26 NBA preseason
The Brooklyn Nets are coming off of the 2025 NBA Las Vegas Summer League in which they got their first look at how their rookies would perform against NBA competition. Brooklyn got some mixed results from the four rookies that were able to participate in the summer league, but they will be able to see more from them in what should be an interesting preseason game. According to Basketball News Australia, the Nets will be facing Israel's Hapoel Jerusalem, a professional basketball club based in the City of Jerusalem that competes in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, as part of their preseason slate for the 2025-26 campaign. Basketball News Australia's post on X says that this matchup will happen on Oct. 4 and according to NetsDaily, "The reports are likely accurate, per a league source." As Brian Lewis of the New York Post pointed out, this won't be the first time that Brooklyn has faced a professional basketball team from Israel as they played against Maccabi Ra'anana during the 2023-24 preseason. What makes this preseason game, assuming that it happens, more interesting is due to the fact that the Nets drafted two players with ties to Israel, guard Ben Saraf and forward Danny Wolf. Much of the NBA schedule for the 2025-26 season is still unknown, but it seems like the one international team that the Nets will be playing during their preseason slate will be from Israel. In addition to the reported matchup against Hapoel Jerusalem, it should be noted that the NBA announced that the Nets and Phoenix Suns would play two of their preseason games at the Venetian Arena in Macau, China. Those games would mark the first ones played in China for both the Nets and the NBA since the 2019 preseason, when the Nets met the Los Angeles Lakers. With that being the backdrop, it seems that the Nets will be getting a lot of international experience before the 2025-26 NBA regular season begins with all of the matchups that they have ahead of them. QB Joe Burrow says this is best he's felt throwing the football in years. That's scary
CINCINNATI – Joe Burrow didn't become 'Joe Brr' by not knowing how to keep it a buck. Certainly short of soul-bearing, Burrow at least offers a glimpse into his actual self – while maintaining some level of coyness – and that's not always the case with franchise quarterbacks in 2025. So when he appears genuinely optimistic about the Cincinnati Bengals' upcoming season it's hard not to drink the Kool-Aid that flows along the banks of the Ohio River. QB Joe Burrow: this group of Bengals wide receivers is deepest of my career For starters, Burrow declared Wednesday after practice he feels the best he has while throwing the football in some time. If the eye test is worth anything, Wednesday's practice backed up that claim. The man passed for 4,913 yards and 43 touchdowns and feels better. Maybe it was because edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, coming off an All-Pro year, reported to camp Wednesday amid tense contract negotiations, thus ending his holdout. He didn't practice, making it a 'hold-in,' but the vibes were better in the building as a result, Burrow said. Back in the fold already are Burrow's top two targets, receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, both of whom received lucrative extensions this offseason. The bad news for Burrow and the Bengals' offense is that the offensive line still has question marks. A significant percentage of the team's success, however, hinges on the defense. The unit was among the league's worst in 2024 and received much of the blame for the team's 9-8 record and failure to make the playoffs. Al Golden replaces Lou Anarumo (now with the Indianapolis Colts) as defensive coordinator. Burrow has been a fan of what he's seen from the opposite side of the ball through the first week of camp, despite the installation of a new defense. The defensive backs are understanding where their help is, an example of grasping nuances within coverage schemes, Burrow said. The absence of mental errors is encouraging, he added. Burrow, by name, called out defensive tackle T.J. Slayton somebody who 'is going to be a great player for us, the energy he brings, the physicality he brings. I'm really excited to watch that on Sundays.' The games and stunts to create pressures by the defensive line is something Burrow said he has gone against – and knows from experience is difficult to deal with. 'And they're doing it at a high level,' Burrow said. With Hendrickson back in the fold – it appears – Burrow wasn't afraid to reveal his aspirations. 'I think it's got a chance to be a special year,' he said. After cornerback Josh Newton picked Burrow off during 7-on-7 drills in the end zone, the defense as a unit started jawing. The smack talk from the secondary lasted all practice. 'Need that energy from them,' Burrow said. 'Defense is built off that energy. Great defense is not always necessarily played with the mind. A lot of times it's energy, emotion, physicality.' Trey Hendrickson's holdout becomes hold-in at Bengals training camp Unlike last season, Burrow wants to play in the preseason to get used to hits and speed at which the pocket disintegrates. No decisions have been made regarding his participation on Aug. 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bengals started 1-4 last season and never recovered, even with five straight wins to close out the year. Burrow has been intentional in his public statements about the need for a better start in 2025. That's another reason why Burrow has placed more value on the preseason. 'We'll find out,' Burrow said of the team's goal to start fast, '…I'm very positive about the energy, the morale that we have in the locker room right now.' And given all that's been said about the Bengals for the past several months, maybe it's been cool – 'Joe Brr' cool – all along.
