Nagpur: Overflowing drains, waterlogged roads, and civic neglect dominated the complaints brought by citizens to Union minister

during his Janata Darbar on Sunday. With the city reeling under monsoon-related issues, residents from across Nagpur raised concerns about drainage failures, poor sanitation, unsafe streets, and pending infrastructure projects.
Ravindra Borkar, principal of a private school on Nari Road, appeared with 12 staff members to highlight the condition of a damaged sewer line running alongside the school premises. The broken line has caused gutter water to flood the school's playground daily, making it unusable.
"Students have fallen sick repeatedly, and parents are pulling their children out," Borkar said, stressing that the issue has existed for years without any corrective action.
He urged Gadkari to direct officials to reconstruct the line at the earliest to restore safety and sanitation.
In Old Dnyaneshwari Nagar near Manewada Road, Vijay Phule pointed out a larger-than-road nullah adjacent to residential areas. "Even animals fall in. When it rains, water flows into our homes," he said. Phule claimed residents had been running from one municipal department to another for a year with no result.

He criticised the existing retaining wall for being at road level and thus ineffective.
Jaiprakash Nagar senior citizen Sudha Kesarwani, 72, urged the administration to adopt an 'Indore-like' cleanliness model. She highlighted garbage around Sonegaon Lake, which is removed only weekly, and complained about waste dumping spots near the water body. Kesarwani also raised safety concerns, citing non-functional street lights and missing CCTV cameras.
"We've complained several times, but nothing changes," she said.
Residents from Shri Nagar, including Ved Patrikar, spoke of basic civic neglect. He said drain cleaning, garbage collection, and street sweeping have been irregular for weeks. "Mosquitoes are everywhere, and complaints to the NMC go unanswered," Patrikar said.
Indiramata Nagar residents, whose homes are located near the Pili river, reported rainwater flooding their houses.
They demanded financial aid under housing schemes to build pucca houses and asked for improved drainage systems to prevent recurrence.
From Hinganghat, Waim Misar Khan and a group of seven artisans sought the regularisation of their land in Shashtri Ward. The community, which has been living there for over three decades, has no access to civic amenities due to lack of registration with the Nagar Parishad.
Gadkari assured all complainants that their issues would be forwarded to the concerned departments for urgent action.
