CM tells UDD to expedite Maan-Mhalunge TP scheme clearance: PMRDA officials

instructed the urban development department to fast-track the clearance of the Maan-Mhalunge town planning scheme in Hinjewadi during a recent review meeting on civic and infrastructure issues in the area, senior officials of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority said on Monday.
"The CM specifically told department officials to look into the delay and ensure the proposal is processed without further hold-ups," a senior PMRDA official, who attended the CM's meeting last week, said.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received technical approval for four of six proposed town planning schemes from the urban development department (UDD), but govt notifications are still pending.
The Maan-Mhalunge scheme, launched in 2018, is still under review, while the Manjari Khurd-Kolwadi proposal was rejected due to plot demarcation issues and needs to be resubmitted. "We hope the remaining hurdles will be cleared soon for the Maan-Mhalunge scheme," the official said.

"The Maan-Mhalunge scheme was earlier cleared, but revisions were required after plots were found marked along flood lines. The approved TP schemes, Autade Handewadi, Holkarwadi (two separate schemes), and Vadachiwadi, await final notification from state govt," a source within UDD said.

The prolonged delay, attributed partly to last year's Lok Sabha and assembly elections, has stalled development in the Pune Metropolitan Region. "We are unaware why the proposals have been stuck, especially since these are growth centres. They should have been fast-tracked," another PMRDA official said.
Earlier this year, PMRDA gave an in-principle approval to 15 additional TP schemes. The current schemes are being developed on the Gujarat model, where landowners receive 50% of developed land within the same area.
Each of the five approved schemes was also expected to receive Rs 25 crore in central infrastructure support. PMRDA committed Rs 125 crore from its own funds for these projects.
The delays have caused concern among landowners. Mohit Mehta, a Manjari resident whose plot was earmarked for development, said, "If the proposal requires resubmission, there will be no project coming up on our land this year."
PMRDA officials said further delays in issuing govt clearance could push back the allocation of central funds.
The schemes are integral to the draft development plan approved early last year, aimed at enabling structured growth across 5,000 hectares along the proposed 82-km ring road.

India has emerged as the global leader in fast payments, according to a recent note by the International Monetary Fund titled Growing Retail Digital Payments: The Value of Interoperability. At the heart of this transformation is the Unified Payments Interface, better known as UPI. UPI is responsible for close to 85% of all digital transactions in India. The UPI handles over 60% of digital transactions worldwide. In June 2025, UPI logged 18.39 billion transactions at the value of Rs 24 lakh crores, which is a 32% increase from last year. Launched in 2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India, UPI has changed how people send and receive money in the country. It brings all your bank accounts together in one mobile app. One can transfer money instantly, pay merchants, or send funds to friends with just a few taps. Its appeal lies in its speed and ease of use. In June alone, it handled over Rs 24.03 lakh crore in payments. This was spread across 18.39 billion transactions. Compared to the same month last year, when there were 13.88 billion transactions, the growth is clear. There is an increase of about 32 per cent in just one year. The UPI system now serves 491 million individuals and 65 million merchants. It connects 675 banks on a single platform, allowing people to make payments easily without worrying about which bank they use. Today, UPI accounts for 85 per cent of all digital transactions in India. Its impact goes beyond national borders, powering nearly 50 per cent of global real-time digital payments.' As stated in a report by ET Wealth Online, ICICI Bank has reportedly become the first bank to formally establish processing fees regarding the Payment Aggregators (PAs) which deal with UPI payment transactions. Starting August 1, 2025, all UPI transactions will incur a charge.

Congress protest a ‘praise parade' for mother-son duo, fumes Kishan
Hyderabad/New Delhi: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the Congress party following its protest meeting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, accusing Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of staging a political spectacle to gain favor with the Gandhi family. Speaking to reporters in the national capital on Wednesday, Kishan Reddy dismissed the event as a 'praise parade' for Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, noting that over half of Revanth Reddy's 31-minute speech was dedicated to lauding the Congress leadership. 'The Jantar Mantar meeting was not about BC welfare—it was about securing blessings from the Gandhi family to survive political pressure in Telangana,' Reddy said. He criticized the Congress government in Telangana for failing to implement the Kamareddy Declaration, which promised extensive welfare measures for Backward Classes (BCs). 'They pledged lakhs of crores over five years. By now, Rs 40,000 crore should have been allocated. But not a single rupee has been spent,' Reddy alleged, adding that no corporations have been formed for BC communities as promised. Reddy accused the Congress of deliberately delaying local body elections to avoid public backlash. 'They are playing dramas in the name of reservations. The BC community sees through this insincerity,' he said. Highlighting the GHMC elections, Reddy pointed out that Muslims contested and won 31 out of 50 BC-reserved seats. He alleged that both BRS and Congress were acting under the influence of the AIMIM party. 'Now, with the inclusion of 10% Muslims in BCs and a proposed 42% reservation, the Congress is undermining BC representation,' he said. He further criticized the Congress for conducting an 'unscientific' survey that reduced the BC population count and accused the party of continuing the same mistakes made by the previous BRS government. 'The BJP will oppose any religious-based reservations that violate constitutional principles,' Reddy declared. Taking aim at the Congress's historical record, Reddy said the Nehru family had consistently failed BCs—citing the shelving of the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report in 1955 and the neglect of the Mandal Commission recommendations by Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. 'The Congress has suffered crushing defeats in three consecutive elections and struggles to cross 100 seats. Their dream of returning to power at the Centre is delusional,' Reddy said. He dismissed Revanth Reddy's criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as futile. 'Mocking Modi ji is like spitting at the sky. The country is witnessing stable governance under his leadership,' he concluded, advising Congress to abandon hopes of gaining power at the Centre for the next 30 years.
