Bradley Cooper's new movie is based on life of huge British comedian – but can you work out who?

BRADLEY Cooper's latest film is inspired by a very unlikely standup comic.
The upcoming movie, Is This Thing On?, stars BoJack Horseman's Will Arnett as a newly-divorced man who falls into a career of stand-up while working as a pharmaceutical salesman.

Hollywood star Bradley Cooper's new film is based on none other than John Bishop.
The Liverpudlian favourite got into comedy in 2000 after splitting with his wife Melanie after randomly wandering into a comedy club in Manchester.
The shock news was revealed on Richard Herring's Leicester Square Theatre Podcast when comedian Chloe Radcliffe – who plays a stand-up in the film – shared the surprising fact.
She said: " Bradley Cooper is directing a movie starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern. Their relationship goes south, they split up, and Will Arnett discovers stand-up comedy.
"It is based on the life of John Bishop. I promise you. I think Will and John sat next to each other at a dinner ten years ago and Will heard his story was like, 'That rules, I want to do that someday.
"So anyway that's the movie that I just wrapped on…"
She continued: "I'm playing the stand-up who like believes in him."
The Hangover star Bradley directs and stars as his best friend Alex, while Bishop serves as an executive producer on the film.
The impressive cast also includes Ciarán Hinds, former NFL star Peyton Manning, comedian Amy Sedaris and Will and Grace's Sean Hayes along with his husband, Scott Icenogle.
Bishop told Graham Norton previously: "So, I'd split up with my wife, it was a Monday night. I had the kids all weekend, and on a Monday I was just depressed, so I thought, 'I'll do something that you can do on your own.' And it was either a comedy club or lap dancing.

"I was 34 coming on to 35 and I was just looking for something to do. I walked up to the door thinking it would be a full comedy club, and the guy on the door said to me, 'It's £4 to get in, but it's free if you put your name down.'
"For what?". He said, 'It's an open mic night.' And I genuinely didn't know what that meant.
"He said: 'That means you put your name down, and if your name gets called out, you get on stage.'
"And because I'd only been to two comedy clubs and it'd always been full, I thought, 'Well, there'll be 200 people. They'll never get to me.'
"And, you know, it was four pounds. I was going through a divorce. I thought, 'Well, that's four pounds she's not getting.'
"I put my name down, expecting never to be called out, and I walked in and there was seven people in the place, and five of them had put their name down.
"I got called out second. If I'd have been called out third, I might have already left. So I got called out second after a Geordie fella doing chicken impressions.
"Then he [compere Mick Ferry] called my name, and I walked on stage. I'd never been on a stage. I'd done sales presentations and stuff like that.
"I remember the lights in my eyes and saying something about the lights being bright, and then I thought, 'What am I doing here? This is just ridiculous.' Like, I'd never thought of doing this.
"Then I thought, 'Well, what's my choice? I'm going to go home to an empty house, not living with the woman I want to live with, not living with my kids. I'll just go home to a bottle of wine, and what have I got to lose? There's only seven people here and one of them thinks he's a chicken.'
"So I literally started talking. I said some half joke, and then I had nothing to say, I had no joke, so I just went, 'I'm getting divorced.' And I started talking about getting divorced.
"In comedy clubs, when your time's up, there's a red light that flashes, I didn't even know that. So I remember going, 'Oh, your light's broke,' and I just carried on talking.
"I was meant to do seven minutes but because there was no one there they let me carry on. I did about 25 minutes.
"When I walked off I remember Mick the compere and the fella who ran the place coming up to me and saying, 'Where have you been doing your stand-up?'"
"It's like counselling," admitted Bishop.

Taylor Swift confirms October album release for The Life of A Showgirl

The news came during Swift's appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, who formerly played for the Philadelphia Eagles. Unveiling a copy of the new record, the singer said: 'This is my new album, The Life Of A Showgirl. It's something I was working on while I was in Europe on the Eras tour.' A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) Travis Kelce said the fact that Swift recorded the album while simultaneously travelling the world for her sold-out tour was 'still blowing my mind'. Swift said: 'I just love music. I would be playing shows three nights in a row then I would have three days off. 'I would fly to Sweden. Working on this, I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating.' In an Instagram post, the 35-year-old revealed the album's artwork and 12-track listing – with Sabrina Carpenter featuring on the title song and only collaboration. The Life Of A Showgirl is Swift's first album since regaining control over her back catalogue and purchasing the rights to all of her concert films, music videos, album art and photography, as well as her unreleased songs. The US popstar re-recorded her first six albums and released them as Taylor's Version, following a dispute with retired talent manager Scooter Braun. Braun acquired the back catalogue when he bought Swift's former label. Her master copies were then sold in a deal with Shamrock Capital, before Swift purchased them from the company in May. Swift has released new versions of Fearless (2008), Red (2012), Speak Now (2010) and 1989 (2014). Her 12th album follows 2024's The Tortured Poets Department, and comes after Swift's billion-dollar, record-breaking Eras Tour ended in December. She made history last summer when the tour became the highest-grossing of all time, and Swift became the first solo artist to perform at London's Wembley Stadium eight times on a single tour. Swift has had four UK number one singles and 13 UK number one albums, and some of her best-known songs include Love Story, Shake It Off and 22.

BREAKING: Taylor Swift reveals huge star who will appear on new album The Life of a Showgirl

The much anticipated New Neights podcast episode featuring Taylor Swift has now been released and she drops some major news. Sabrina Carpenter will appear on her new album. It had been announced on Tuesday that Taylor, 35, would be a guest on the podcast, which is hosted by her partner Travis Kelce, 35, and his brother Jason Kelce, 37. A preview released on social media at the time had shown the singer-songwriter teasing her new album The Life of a Showgirl. The promotional clip showed Taylor telling Jason, who, like his brother, is known for playing in the NFL, whilst recording the podcast: "So I wanted to show you something." He responded by asking her: "Okay, what do we go?" Taylor held up a briefcase that had her initials on the front, before pulling out a vinyl sleeve that had been blurred. Confirming the name of her next album, she shared in the clip: "This is my brand new album, the Life of a Showgirl." She had announced the Life of a Showgirl, which is her twelfth original album, on August 12 and it's said that the podcast teaser was shared on Instagram at 12.12am. The album cover wasn't revealed though, with an orange padlock on a green backdrop used to temporarily conceal the artwork on her social media account and website following the news. It comes just months on from Taylor sharing with fans in May that she now owns "all of the music" that she's ever made. That announcement came following years of her releasing re-recorded versions of albums from earlier in her career following a dispute over her back catalogue. She said in a statement earlier this year: "The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work." Taylor also said at the time: "To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it." Not including the four re-recorded albums she's released, the Life of a Showgirl will be Taylor's twelfth studio album to date. It follows the Tortured Poets Department, released by the Grammy Award winner in April last year. That album topped the charts upon its release and was said to have broken records. It included, according to the Official Charts Company, her becoming the first artist to have 12 number one albums in the UK the 21st century.

Erin Andrews wipes away tears as her dad details her 'devastating' stalker hell and secret cancer battle

Erin Andrews was left in tears while listening to her father detail her battles with stalkers, cancer and infertility on a heart-wrenching TV appearance on Wednesday. The NFL sideline reporter and podcast host appeared on TODAY alongside her father Steve, and could not hold back her emotion as he opened up on her strength and resilience to overcome a series of huge traumas in her life. In a rare display of emotion, the 47-year-old dabbed her eyes and wiped away tears while watching a pre-recorded interview with her father, before the pair shared an emotional moment together in the studio. Steve was asked initially about the 2008 'stalking incident', in which Michael Davis Barrett was jailed for recording a nude video of Erin at a hotel in Nashville from the room next door. A second similar incident occurred at a hotel in Columbus, Ohio, a year later, and the videos were published online in 2009. In the aftermath, Barrett was jailed for two-and-a-half years and Andrews won a $55million lawsuit against him and the hotel chain Marriott. 'Her sister called me a day or two after it happened, and she's (saying), "Is she OK? Is she safe, Dad?"', Steve explained on TODAY. 'And I said, "I don't know. I really don't know".' Andrews was overcome with emotion watching her dad's pre-recorded segment on the show He went on to explain that he volunteered to travel the country with her to keep her safe as she continued her work on the NFL, noting: 'You know, I'll be with you 24/7, whatever you want.' A few years later, in 2016, Andrews was handed another huge curveball when she was diagnosed with cancer - something she kept private for a year. 'It's scary to hear your child on the phone calling you and saying, "I have cancer",' Steve told the program. 'I wanted to cry. I was brokenhearted. 'Erin is such a fighter. In broadcasting, when you get knocked down, you gotta be able to get back up. And Erin has experienced these physical, traumatic incidents. 'You would think for the average person, bam, on your back, you're done. And she just used that as motivation to say that this is not going to beat me. And honestly, I don't know that I have it in me to do what she did. She's just so strong, so amazing.' In the years since, Steve has become a grandfather to Mack, Erin's young son who was born via a surrogate in June 2023. The birth of her son was the result of a nine-year journey with in-vitro fertilization with husband Jarret Stoll, and she has remained at the top of her game as one of the faces of the NFL. Once the cameras returned to the studio on Wednesday, host Bush Hager revealed 'we are all in tears', and Erin was given a chance to praise her father. 'He's amazing,' she explained. 'My mom, my sister, all amazing, as welI. I mean, it's funny, you said you don't know if you could do that. 'I feel like - and we've talked about this - when you are faced with certain things, you jut have to put on the persona [of] ok, I've got it, I'll handle it. But then you can fall apart when you're off-camera, and my family has allowed me to do that.'
