Pearly Tan–Thinaah off to flying start at Thailand Open, crush Indian duo in 24-minute opener
The world number five pair needed just 24 minutes to secure a 21–11, 21–5 win in their match at the Nimibutr Stadium, here.
Thinaah said they were excited to be back in Thailand and had not set any specific targets to avoid putting pressure on themselves.
'In the first game, we just wanted to give our best for every point played... it's a good start today, and we hope to maintain our momentum for the next match,' she told Bernama here today.
Pearly added that the court conditions were favourable, with a slight breeze that was manageable.
'The court conditions are good. Although the wind is one-sided, it is not very strong, which allowed us to control the shuttle well. We will keep giving our best and hope to carry this momentum throughout the tournament,' she said.
Pearly–Thinaah will next face the Indonesian pair of Lanny Tria Mayasari–Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, who earlier defeated Thailand's Tidapron Kleebyeesun and Nattamon Laisun 21–11, 21–14.
Another national women's doubles pair, Go Pei Kee–Teoh Mei Xing, also advanced to the next round after defeating Taiwan's Chen Su Yu–Hsieh Yi En 21–15, 18–21, 21–15 in 48 minutes.
Pei Kee–Mei Xing will next take on Indonesia's Meilysa Trias Puspitasari–Rachel Allessya Rose, who ousted their compatriots Apriyani Rahayu–Febi Setianingrum 24–22, 21–18.
However, fellow women's doubles players Ong Xin Yee–Carmen Ting failed to advance, losing to the third-seeded Indian pair Treesa Jolly–Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 15–21, 13–21 in 39 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the men's singles, professional shuttler Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin secured a hard-fought victory against China's Wang Zheng Xing, winning 21–12, 19–21, 21–18 in 59 minutes.
Aidil now faces a challenging task as he takes on the tournament's eighth seed, Lu Guang Zu of China, who earlier defeated Thailand's Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul 21–15, 14–21, 21–19.
In the mixed doubles, all Malaysian pairs crashed out in the first round with seventh-seeded Hoo Pang Ron–Cheng Su Yin failing to make their mark, losing to Thailand's Supak Jomkoh–Omnicha Jongsathapornparn 21–15, 18–21, 17–21 in a closely fought match lasting an hour.
World number 56 pair, Yap Roy King–Valeree Siow also bowed out, losing to South Korea's Ki Dong Ju–Jeong Na Un 18–21, 17–21 in 33 minutes.
In the men's doubles, Low Han Yee–Ng Eng Cheong exited the tournament after losing to top seeds Fajar Alfian–Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia, 11–21, 17–21 in 32 minutes.
National men's doubles pair of Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik, Man Wei Chong–Kai Wun Tee, Choong Hon Jian–Muhammad Haikal and Wan Arif Wan Junaidi–Yap Roy King will play later this evening.
Also in action this evening are men's singles players Ng Tze Yong, Justin Hoh and sole national representative in women's singles, Goh Jin Wei. — Bernama

Rosman warns Pearly-Thinaah to be vigilant
KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Rosman Razak has warned Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah against complacency as the duo aim to end Malaysia's wait for a women's doubles medal at the World Championships from Aug 25-31. Their recent significant improvement has put world No. 2 Pearly-Thinaah in a strong position to claim a worlds medal for the first time. The path has been cleared for a podium finish as Pearly-Thinaah will avoid China's world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning and world No. 6 Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian until the final. Sheng Shu-Tan Ning hold a 9-3 head-to-head record against Pearly-Thinaah while Yi Fan–Shu Xian also lead 4-1 against the Malaysians. Pearly-Thinaah have been in creditable form, winning the Thailand Open and finishing runners-up at the Indonesia and Japan Opens. However, Rosman reminded them that the World Tour is totally different from the World Championships, where Pearly-Thinaah need to stay focused on their medal target. "We are heading towards that dream (a World Championships medal) and hopefully we can achieve that breakthrough, but Pearly-Thinaah must remember that this is not like a World Tour event," said Rosman. "It's good that Pearly-Thinaah are the second seeds and they will avoid the top China pairs (until the final). "They shoudn't take things for granted. Whether they can take advantage of the situation depends on how they perform in every match leading to the medal rounds." However, Rosman has also warned Pearly-Thinaah not to let their guard down against others. They are expected to face Indonesia's world No. 14 Lanny Mayasari-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti in the third round, and Japan's world No. 8 Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto in a likely quarter-final clash. The semi-final stage would be a tougher hurdle as Pearly-Thinaah are projected to meet either Japan's world No. 3 Chiharu Shida-Nami Matsuyama, who hold a commanding 13-2 record, or South Korea's world No. 5 Kim Hye Jeong-Kong Hee Yong, who boast a 3-0 record.

Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun eye stronger run at World Badminton Championships
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — National men's doubles player, Man Wei Chong admitted that he and his partner Tee Kai Wun are in better physical condition to participate in this year's World Badminton Championships which will be held in Paris, France from August 25-31. He said that compared to the inaugural edition he participated in in 2023, he feels they are now more prepared and hope to do better by aiming to bring home a medal for Malaysia. 'If you compare the last two years, this year's performance has improved a bit. Although not much, it is better than the last two years. 'So hopefully we can do our best than before,' he told reporters after the national badminton team's training session at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) today. Meanwhile, Wei Chong, when asked about his draw with Kai Wun in the tournament, admitted that being placed as the seeded pair gave them a slight advantage when they would not be playing in the first round. However, he said that did not mean they could be complacent given that there were several great names they had to fight if they wanted to go further. 'I think our first round was good because we started in the round of 64 and after that we might face the French pair, Toma Junior Popov-Christo Popov. They are also quite strong and it is not certain that they can win again, playing at home. So we really hope to be able to perform later,' he said. For the record in the 2023 edition, Wei Chong-Kai Wun ended the competition in the third round after losing to the Chinese pair, Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang 21-16, 14-21, 21-17. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 — Despite the national women's doubles team, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah receiving what was considered an easy draw at the 2025 Badminton World Championships in Paris, France, women's doubles head coach Rosman Razak refused to dwell too much on the matter. Instead, he stressed that the main focus is to ensure that his players are always ready to face every match at the prestigious tournament. 'My stance is still the same, that we don't want to think too far ahead. We don't want to focus on who our opponents will be. 'What we need to do is to prepare the players for the tournament, which is to make sure they are really ready and focused on match day,' he told reporters when met after the national team's training session today. Earlier at the draw ceremony held on Wednesday, Pearly-Thinaah received an easy draw when they faced no problems advancing to the semi-finals. The second seeds received a bye in the first round and is expected to face the world's 14th ranked pair, Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti of Indonesia in the quarter-finals, with a record of meetings in favour of the national pair. Meanwhile, when asked about the women's doubles' preparations ahead of the World Championship, Rosman said that all the planning he had done with the coaching staff was going perfectly. In fact, he also informed that there were no injuries suffered by the national women's doubles involved at the tournament. Apart from Pearly-Thinaah, Malaysia will also be represented by Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing in the women's doubles event where both pairs from the country received a bye in the first round. For the record, Malaysia has yet to win a medal in the women's doubles event at the World Championships. — Bernama
