Additional charges for violating the Cybercrime and Intimidation Act were also laid against Malema and Mbalula.
Pieterse, who is represented by AfriForum's private prosecution unit, opened the case on Friday at the Sophiatown and Boksburg North police stations and was accompanied by the unit. AfriForum has also instructed its legal team to initiate civil proceedings against Mbalula.
'While I am relieved that the truth has been revealed, I am determined to ensure that people understand that there are consequences for making irresponsible and false allegations on social media and other platforms,' Pieterse said.
The case revolves around the seven-year-old girl in Matatiele who was allegedly raped at the school last year. Pieterse and the school's caretaker were identified in a police statement as the main suspects, and he was criticised for refusing to submit DNA samples to the police.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) dropped the case due to insufficient evidence.
'The consequences of the reckless and malicious statements made against me have had an irreversible and devastating impact on every aspect of my life. The trauma and losses I have suffered will take years, if ever, to heal,' Pieterse said.
The AfriForum unit's spokesperson Barry Bateman said the accusations violated Pieterse's dignity.
'Pieterse was publicly labelled a paedophile, a label that in society's eyes is among the most irredeemable and damning. Pieterse's case is especially serious because his job entails caring for children.
'We expect the police and the NPA to act with haste to ensure there is justice for Pieterse and his family. These are uncomplicated cases. While evidence has been provided to the police, it is still available on media websites and social media platforms,' Bateman said.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has hit back at Afrikaner lobby group AfriForum for withdrawing from the National Dialogue Convention. AfriForum, Solidarity and Solidarity Movement withdrew from the National Dialogue accusing the African National Congress (ANC)-led government of hijacking the dialogue and degenerating it into a government-driven national monologue. The decision also comes as other legacy foundations, including those bearing the names of Thabo Mbeki, Desmond Tutu, Oliver Tambo, and Chief Albert Luthuli, have formally withdrawn from the upcoming National Dialogue Convention, scheduled for Friday, 15 August. In a joint statement released on Friday, 8 August, the legacy foundations cited serious concerns over breaches of key principles governing the National Dialogue process. These include government overreach, a rushed timeline, lack of transparency, and financial instability – factors they say undermine the credibility and original citizen-driven spirit of the event. Despite withdrawing from the 15 August event, the foundations emphasised that they are not abandoning the broader National Dialogue project. On Tuesday, 12 August, AfriForum took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that they have also withdrawn from the dialogue. AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel said the crisis the country is currently in is due to the ANC's failed policies, mismanagement and corruption. Kriel said they are the cause of the problems and, therefore, they cannot be trusted to lead the process of finding solutions. In response, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi accused the lobby groups of being racist. 'Who's next? Thanks for not attending, we honestly don't need your racist views,' he posted on X. Unsurprisingly, chairperson of the Solidarity Movement, Flip Buys, said national discussions are essential to find solutions to the country's pressing crises, but everything indicates that the National Dialogue at this stage will only result in more useless discussions, instead of action. 'The reason for this is that it appears that the ANC wants to hijack the intended the dialogue to try to win back lost support, rather than find answers to the crises. 'Therefore, the Solidarity Movement supports the various foundations that have decided not to attend the dialogue on Friday, and we will not be there either. Bogus traditional healer sentenced for rape
Bogus traditional healer Bongani Mafolela, accused of rape and attempted rape, was this week sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment for two separate offences. Mafolela (24) was convicted and sentenced by the Molopo Regional Court in the North West. ALSO READ: Suspected killer nabbed in eSikhaleni He was given 10 years for the rape he committed in 2022 and five years for the attempted rape he committed in 2024. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) North West Province spokesperson, Sivenathi Gunya, said the court added that both sentences run consecutively, and his name be added to the National Register for Sex Offenders. The court heard that on 6 February 2022, Mafolela met one of the victims in Imperial Reserve, Mafikeng. Claiming to be a traditional healer, he 'prophesied' that she had an evil spirit that needed to be removed and persuaded her to visit his surgery the following day. During the consultation, Mafolela prepared a bath for the victim to 'cleanse' herself. She became suspicious when he refused to leave the room, but complied because she believed she needed help. After the bath, he instructed her to lie on the bed, after which he raped her, warning her not to report it otherwise she might be involved in an accident. In April 2022, after discovering she was pregnant, the victim reported the matter to the police, leading to Mafolela's arrest. He was later released on bail. While out on bail, on 4 September 2024, Mafolela met another victim in Montshioa, Mmabatho. After claiming she had a spiritual calling, he shared a drink with her, which made her feel dizzy and sleepy. While she was lying down, she realised her tracksuit pants had been pulled down and saw Mafolela undressing himself. She resisted and reported the matter to the police, leading to his rearrest the following day. In court, Mafolela pleaded not guilty. Advocate Kefentse Diseko argued that youthfulness should not automatically mitigate sentences in serious offences like rape, and urged the court to consider the alarming prevalence of GBV in South Africa. In delivering judgment, Regional Court Magistrate Mathews found that Mafolela abused cultural beliefs and his position as a traditional healer to exploit his victims. Walter Sisulu University VC's contract won't be renewed, says council
The council of the Walter Sisulu University has decided not to renew the employment contract of its vice-chancellor, Prof Rushiella Nolundi Songca, which will end on March 31 2026. 'In this regard, the council will commence the recruitment process to appoint a suitable candidate to the position of vice-chancellor before the end of 2025 academic year,' said council chair Tembeka Ngcukaitobi SC in a letter to the university community on Wednesday. Ngcukaitobi said he was in discussion with Songca regarding transitional arrangements and any potential role she may assume within the university after the conclusion of her term.
