Haryana dharamshalas offer free stay, meals for CET aspirants
The CET will be conducted in four shifts at 834 examination centres across all 22 districts of Haryana and in Chandigarh on July 26 and 27. Approximately 13.48 lakh candidates are expected to appear for recruitment to Group C and D posts.
This exam is a key part of Haryana's recruitment process for Group C posts—including roles in the police, prisons, and home guards—excluding teaching positions, posts for ex-Agniveers, and Group D jobs that require less than a matriculation qualification.
There is no restriction on the number of attempts a candidate can make. CET scores remain valid for three years from the date of result. If a candidate improves their score in another attempt, the validity will be reset from the date of the improved result.
To support candidate mobility, the state transport department has deployed 9,200 roadways buses across Haryana. These buses will operate from 24 depots and 13 sub-depots to ensure safe and timely travel.
Meanwhile, social and religious organisations are playing a key role in easing logistics for candidates from other districts. Several dharamshalas have offered their halls and rooms for free stay and food arrangements.
In Karnal, which has 53 centres spread across 38 locations, BJP district president Praveen Lathar chaired a meeting on Wednesday with the presidents and representatives of 19 dharamshalas at the BJP office.
Lathar said, 'To ensure that visiting candidates and their families do not face any inconvenience, presidents of dharamshalas representing various communities and other social organisations have volunteered to take responsibility for their stay and meals from July 25 to 27.'
He added that while the administration is already arranging transport facilities for the exam, many organisations have stepped up to provide additional support.
These dharamshalas will accommodate over 1,000 candidates, who can report directly to the dharamshala nearest to their exam centre.
Officials in multiple districts said these initiatives were entirely voluntary and reflect the community's support during a major state-level event.
Yamunanagar deputy commissioner Parth Gupta said six locations in the city have been identified for stay, including two exclusively for women, with a combined capacity to house 860 candidates. 'We will also operate pink shuttle buses for local travel between exam centres, bus stands and accommodation points,' he added.
In Ambala, deputy commissioner Ajay Tomar stated that besides dharamshalas, rain baseras (temporary shelters) are also being readied to provide emergency lodging for candidates.
Kurukshetra DC Neha said, 'Several social organisations have again come forward to provide dharamshala rooms and halls, similar to what we saw during the state-level Yoga Day. We are ensuring proper arrangements for food, water, toilets, and other essentials.'
To maintain order on exam days, authorities will impose prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. These will be enforced within a 500-metre radius of all examination centres to prevent disturbances or crowding.
According to Haryana Police, a large number of candidates are expected to arrive by bus or train the evening before the exam. They will then travel by auto-rickshaws and taxis to accommodations or centres nearby. To manage the expected rush and prevent congestion, additional traffic personnel will be deployed at key locations.

BJP gaining steady ground in Khammam: Ramchander Rao
Khammam: Telangana BJP State President Ramchandra Rao has announced a significant change in the political landscape of Khammam, stating that the district is quickly becoming a BJP stronghold. Speaking at a gathering of party members and supporters here on Tuesday, Rao welcomed former communist workers who are interested in joining the BJP, drawing parallels to similar trends in West Bengal. As local body elections approach, Rao laid out the party's election strategy and called for action, predicting that the BJP would win municipal posts and most MPTC positions in Khammam's Zilla Parishad. He urged every party worker and leader in the district to intensify their efforts. Regarding BC reservation, Rao criticised the Congress party's claim of allocating 42% reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, particularly its attempt to include an additional 10% reservation for Muslims. He clarified that while the BJP fully supports the BC reservation bill, it opposes communal-based quotas, and asserted, 'What Congress brought is not a BC reservation bill but a Muslim reservation bill.' He criticised Congress for failing to implement its promises made during the BC Declaration in Kamareddy, emphasising that no tangible actions have been taken since the party came to power 19 months ago. Highlighting contributions from the Central government, he stated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, Khammam has received an allocation of Rs 450 crore. The developments include green belt projects and the approval of four national highways. He emphasized the BJP's role in infrastructural development as proof of its commitment to the region. He disputed claims made by Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao regarding fertilizer shortages. Rao presented data from the Central government, which indicated that Telangana required 9.80 lakh metric tons of urea during the Rabi season. 'However, the Centre provided 12.02 lakh metric tons, exceeding the demand,' he said. Calling the state's narrative misleading, Rao demanded the Agriculture Minister's resignation unless he dared to dispute these figures.

BJD MPs protest in Parliament over rising crimes in Odisha
New Delhi: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs staged a protest at the Gandhi statue in Parliament on Tuesday, decrying the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in BJP-ruled Odisha, particularly the surge in crimes against women and children. Carrying placards that read 'Mahilaon ki cheekh aur sarkar ki khamoshi' (the cries of women and the silence of the government) and 'Odisha BJP ka shaasan, apradhiyo ki shaan' (BJP's rule in Odisha, a pride for criminals), the members demanded immediate central intervention and a judicial inquiry into the recent 'horrific' incidents. Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said, 'Women and children in Odisha today are completely unprotected. The law and order situation is collapsing.' Citing the incident involving a student of FM College in Balasore, who died after self-immolating when her pleas for justice went unheard, Patra said, 'She approached everyone, including the chief minister, but got no justice.' 'And now in Puri, another young girl was doused in petrol by miscreants and is battling for life at AIIMS Delhi,' he told PTI Videos. He accused the BJP-led Odisha government of being a 'complete failure' and calling its stance on the issues 'convenient and full of double standards.' Patra said the BJD demands a judicial inquiry into both incidents and 'strict action against the miscreants.' BJD MP Muzibulla Khan had similar concerns. He said the BJP raised the slogan of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' to come to power, but it is 'failing to protect our daughters'. Subhasish Khuntia, another BJD MP, said crimes against women and students are continuing 'unabated' under the 'double engine government' in Odisha. 'There is no safety for women under the BJP rule,' he said.

OPS urges Centre to release education funds for Tamil Nadu
Expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) on Tuesday condemned the BJP-led Union government for withholding funds amounting to ₹2,151 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan from Tamil Nadu over the state government's refusal to accept the three-language formula mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost (File photo) 'Not releasing funds citing this reason is an act that affects the education of innocent, poor and needy students and teachers. This is strongly condemned,' OPS said in his statement. 'This action of the central government is against the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the principle of federalism…The Central Government's approach has created a pathetic situation where 25% of students cannot be enrolled in private schools under the RTE…' OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost. He has reportedly been unhappy over a perceived lack of respect for him within the alliance. According to an expelled AIADMK leader close to OPS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, 'Some of us had advised him to remain independent and not to join the BJP long back last year.' OPS' statement on Tuesday led to speculation of him joining the actor Vijay's fledgling Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). 'That is an option but as a former chief minister, it is better for OPS to contest on his own along with whoever is willing to join hands with us,' the leader quoted above said. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) expelled OPS in 2022. Both had been sharing power to run the party up till that point. Another expelled AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) also joined the NDA last year, after the AIADMK had broken away from the BJP in 2023. However, the party rejoined the NDA this April. EPS reportedly failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state from July 26 to 28, even after seeking an appointment . BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said he had been unaware that OPS wanted to meet the PM. 'If I had known, I would have definitely arranged a meeting for him,' Nagendran said and did not react to OPS' statement on releasing of central funds. (ANY REACTION FROM DMK TO THE STATEMENT? HAS ANYONE IN BJP ALSO SPECIFICALLY RESPONDED TO IT?)
