OPS urges Centre to release education funds for Tamil Nadu
'Not releasing funds citing this reason is an act that affects the education of innocent, poor and needy students and teachers. This is strongly condemned,' OPS said in his statement. 'This action of the central government is against the Right to Education (RTE) Act and the principle of federalism…The Central Government's approach has created a pathetic situation where 25% of students cannot be enrolled in private schools under the RTE…'
OPS is presently a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under whose banner he ran as an independent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and ultimately lost. He has reportedly been unhappy over a perceived lack of respect for him within the alliance. According to an expelled AIADMK leader close to OPS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, 'Some of us had advised him to remain independent and not to join the BJP long back last year.'
OPS' statement on Tuesday led to speculation of him joining the actor Vijay's fledgling Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). 'That is an option but as a former chief minister, it is better for OPS to contest on his own along with whoever is willing to join hands with us,' the leader quoted above said.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) expelled OPS in 2022. Both had been sharing power to run the party up till that point.
Another expelled AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's party Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) also joined the NDA last year, after the AIADMK had broken away from the BJP in 2023. However, the party rejoined the NDA this April.
EPS reportedly failed to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day visit to the state from July 26 to 28, even after seeking an appointment .
BJP state president Nainar Nagendran said he had been unaware that OPS wanted to meet the PM. 'If I had known, I would have definitely arranged a meeting for him,' Nagendran said and did not react to OPS' statement on releasing of central funds.

Samajwadi Party leader (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over an FIR filed against a local SP leader in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur for allegedly teaching 'politicised alphabets' to children. SP City Vyom Bindal said a complaint was filed by Main Singh, a resident of the Kallarpur Gurjar village, alleging that local SP leader Farhad Alam Gada was teaching children "politicised alphabets" at a 'PDA Pathshala.' According to news agency PTI, the complainant said that the children were taught "A for Akhilesh", "B for Babasaheb", "D for Dimple," and "M for Mulayam Singh Yadav". The incident came to light after a purported video of the lesson, recorded at the SP leader's home in Ramnagar, was posted on social media and went viral. The children in the video were reportedly from a private school and were seen wearing their uniforms. In his defense, Farhad Gada had previously claimed that the "PDA Pathshala" was not just for teaching ABCs but also to educate children about the 'great men of Samajwadi ideology,' PTI reported. He had also stated his intention to open similar schools across the district. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav posted on 'X', 'Even the British did not file an FIR for studying. The anti-education face of the BJP has now been exposed to the public. Now the BJP will be gone forever. Condemnable.'

Bengaluru: PM Modi To Launch Yellow Line Metro On August 10, Lay Foundation For Phase 3 Expansion

BJP leader Tejasvi Surya on Sunday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru and inaugurate the Yellow Line Metro on August 10. Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase-3, he said. In a post on 'X', Surya said, 'Hon. PM Sri @narendramodi Ji's visit to Bengaluru on August 10 will be a landmark moment for Bengaluru South. He will not only inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line Metro operations but also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase 3 – a project that received Cabinet approval within the first 100 days of his third term." He said the Yellow Line will cater to close to eight lakh riders and the 'infamous Silk Board jam' will be addressed greatly. Public transport is the only option to reduce traffic congestion. 'Together, these projects will benefit nearly 25 lakh people in Bengaluru South," he said. The MP said by inaugurating it on August 10, the Yellow Line Metro project would meet the August 15 deadline. Surya, who is also the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national president, quoted Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who said on 'X', 'I am pleased to announce that the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India has kindly agreed to inaugurate 19.15 km Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra of Bangaluru metro with 16 stations at the cost of Rs 5,056.99 crore and lay the foundation stone of 44.65 km of Bangalore phase-3 at the cost of Rs 15,611 Crore on 10th August 2025."
