RTA's Rail Bus: A new transport system is coming to Dubai
A brand new mode of transport is coming to Dubai, announced by RTA…
Big news for Dubai commuters – a brand new mode of transport is coming to Dubai and the Roads and Transport Authority has just revealed the project at the World Government Summit.
Plans for a Rail Bus have been announced by the RTA, an initiative aimed at the grand goal of the near future: easing traffic congestion on the roads.
A different version of the Metro network, essentially, the Rail Bus will be a bus instead of a train on tracks and move on a network of bridges across the city.
Specifications of the vehicle have been released as well – 11.5 metres in length, 2.65 metres in width, sailing at speeds of 100 km/h.
The bus will carry a capacity of 40 passengers and will be a sustainable, environment-friendly and cost-effective way of moving around the city, adding to the umbrella of public transport services in Dubai, along with the Metro, the Tram, buses and taxis. Dubai's road infrastructure is transforming
Urgent initiatives are being taken to achieve multiple goals in Dubai, including making it a cleaner, greener, more carbon-footprint friendly city. In order to reduce traffic, ease congestion and soothe the woes of thousands of daily commuters, new initiatives like Salik's dynamic pricing, hikes in parking fees and congestion fees are being put into place.
The Super Block initiative will see four Dubai neighbourhoods – Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama and Al Quoz Creative Zone – set to become car-free pedestrian zones.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister offered the update as part of the Super Block initiative.
This is part of a push to enhance residents' quality of life by making areas greener, with pedestrians and cyclists prioritised. It also falls in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to enhance infrastructure.
The RTA has also announced that it has slashed traffic by 60 per cent in some areas after a series of traffic upgrades to 50 locations.
Areas improved include Beirut Street, improvements to the intersection of Al Khawaneej Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street and expansion of traffic movement from Al Rabat Street to Business Bay Crossing.
Stay tuned for further details to be revealed on the Rail Bus project…

Dubai Tram service partially suspended after Marina high-rise fire
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Saturday a temporary suspension of Dubai Tram service between Dubai Marina Station (No. 5) and Palm Jumeirah Station (No. 9), following a fire that broke out in a nearby high-rise building late Friday night. The disruption has been implemented as a precaution to ensure passenger safety and to facilitate post-fire operations. To support affected commuters, alternative bus services are running between the impacted stations. Tram service remains unaffected and continues to operate normally across the rest of the network. Service on the suspended section will resume once authorities confirm the track is safe.

55 per cent of Dubai's RTA staff-use vehicles now eco-friendly
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully converted 55% of its staff-use vehicle fleet into environmentally friendly models, with 260 now operating as eco-friendly vehicles. This achievement positions RTA at the forefront of sustainable mobility and underscores its commitment to environmental stewardship and enhancing the efficiency of transport services across the emirate. These results reflect RTA's strong commitment to implementing the directives of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which call on government entities in the Emirate to increase the share of hybrid and environmentally friendly vehicles in their fleets. As a result, RTA has surpassed the 2030 target, which was set at 30%. Commenting on the achievement, Fatima Al Mandoos, Director of Administrative Services at the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector of RTA, said: 'Through this initiative, RTA reaffirms its strategic commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing environmental sustainability, in line with the broader vision of Dubai and the UAE to transition towards a green economy. This step highlights RTA's dedication to supporting efforts to develop a sustainable transport sector and promote the adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles across public and private fleets in the Emirate, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.' Al Mandoos added: 'This transition supports RTA's efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, guided by three key pillars: public transport, RTA-owned buildings and facilities, and waste management. The Authority continues to implement a range of measures to improve transparency and efficiency in fleet management, including the upgrade of vehicle tracking systems and the adoption of advanced technologies for the maintenance and operation of hybrid vehicles.' She concluded: 'RTA has developed a long-term plan to support the transition to environmentally friendly vehicles through to 2030, contributing to improved air quality and reinforcing Dubai's vision of becoming a sustainable city. RTA also encourages its employees to adopt hybrid vehicles and actively raises awareness about the importance of minimising environmental impact; in addition to organising training sessions to educate staff on the efficient operation of hybrid vehicles and best practices for conserving energy.' Dubai Metro just got a futuristic AI robot that inspects the tracks while you sleep
Only in Dubai can you go from being served dinner by an AI-powered chef to riding a metro maintained by a robot. In a city that's fast becoming the world's capital of 'firsts,' Dubai Metro is the latest to step into the future — with a new AI-driven robot that inspects tracks and infrastructure completely on its own. Meet ARIIS (Automated Rail Infrastructure Inspection System) — the latest AI-powered addition to the city's smart transport ecosystem. Launched by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Keolis MHI and Future Maintenance Technologies (FMT), this clever robot is packed with lasers, LiDAR sensors, and 3D cameras that work together to scan the tracks for maintenance needs — all without disrupting your daily commute. So while you're sleeping (or scrolling Instagram in the metro), ARIIS is quietly doing the rounds, helping ensure your ride is smooth, safe, and super-efficient. RTA's Rail Agency CEO, Abdul Mohsin Kalbat, says the new system marks another big step in making Dubai Metro one of the safest and most advanced transport networks in the world. 'Dubai is proud to lead in smart solutions,' he said. 'The introduction of ARIIS is a leap forward in how we maintain and future-proof our metro.' It's not just about keeping the trains on time. ARIIS also supports Dubai's wider vision to become a global leader in AI, smart mobility, and sustainable infrastructure. The robot helps engineers catch potential issues early and make data-driven decisions that reduce risk and boost performance. Keolis MHI Managing Director David Franks called the tech a 'game-changer', while FMT CEO Loic Ayoul praised the city's commitment to forward-thinking innovation: 'This collaboration delivers real improvements in rail safety, performance, and sustainability,' he said. The future of transport? It's already here—and it's riding the rails in Dubai. > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in
