Sport Caerphilly recognised for autism inclusivity

The recognition was given by Neurodivergent Wales and highlights its focus on making sport and physical activities more accessible for people with autism and their families.
The new accreditation supports the objectives laid out in the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029.
This strategy outlines a long-term vision to make sport within Caerphilly accessible and inclusive.
To earn the qualification and improve their ability to provide for people with autism, development officers and coaches completed specialist e-learning in understanding autism and effective communication.
This means that the staff are well equipped to provide a genuine understanding and respect when supporting participants.
Moving forward, staff and coaches from Sport Caerphilly will take part in hands-on autism training using the Autism Reality Experience Simulator.
This training aims to provide insights into the sensory challenges faced by autistic individuals, thereby enhancing understanding and inclusive measures within the service.
Sport Caerphilly continues to embed inclusivity into community sports through these efforts, advocating for their vision of more people becoming more active more often.

Blackwood Primary School celebrates sporting achievements

Blackwood Primary School held its annual sports presentation on Tuesday, recognising 97 pupils from years 3 to 6 who represented the school in competitions throughout the academic year. The school participated in every event available in the area, with students competing in a wide range of sports including cross country, rugby, basketball, netball, football, bowls, and duathlon. (Image: Supplied) The year 5 and 6 boys' football team finished second in the Blackwood Cluster League and reached the Caerphilly finals. The girls' football team also enjoyed a strong season, competing in the cluster league, two 'Game On' festivals, and several matches against nearby schools. (Image: Supplied) Tennis teams from the school qualified for the Caerphilly finals, with the year 3 and 4 girls winning the title and the boys finishing as runners-up. (Image: Supplied) The year 5 and 6 boys also took first place, while the girls narrowly missed out on the top spot. (Image: Supplied) Cricket proved to be the school's standout sport this year. After winning the Caerphilly cluster event, the team went on to become champions of the South East Wales cricket finals. (Image: Supplied) Each pupil who represented the school received an award in recognition of their effort and achievement. Year 6 pupils also voted for their 'player of the year' in basketball, bowls, cricket, football, netball, rugby, and tennis. The school's ethos, 'United we empower, nurture, challenge,' was at the heart of their sporting success, reflecting their commitment to teamwork, personal growth, and resilience both on and off the field.

New 3G pitch complete at Caerphilly sporting excellence hub

The previous surface at he Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach had reached the end of its lifespan. The investment in the new facility is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for both club and community use. Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: 'The improved pitch ensures we continue to provide the best possible environment for local clubs, schools and professional teams to thrive. "It shows how serious we are about delivering high quality, sustainable facilities across the county borough.' The centre is used by local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use it as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC has renewed its long-term commitment to the site as its primary training base.
