The Chiefs will play the Broncos Christmas night at Arrowhead
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced one of the games on their 2025 schedule: playing the Denver Broncos on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium for the Christmas edition of 'Thursday Night Football' on Amazon Prime.
After Kansas City played Christmas games in back-to-back seasons — dropping a stunning 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 that marked the beginning of a dramatic turnaround and collecting a convincing 29-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers to claim the AFC's top postseason seed last season — the Chiefs reportedly approached the NFL with a proposal to host a Yuletide game every season. But in mid-April, another report quoted a league official saying that Kansas City was 'unlikely' to lock down a permanent Christmas matchup.

But that didn't necessarily mean the NFL was done with the Chiefs playing on Christmas — and by the time Week 17 rolls around, this AFC West matchup might have significant playoff implications.
While the game will be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime, it will also be carried on local broadcast stations in both Kansas City and Denver. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Arrowhead Time.

And yes, this fits Davante Adams, too, a mid-season acquisition to came to New York as a superstar and pal of Rodgers ... and no, it did not work out. At all. Individually, Davante's numbers were OK for Jets. In 11 games after being traded for from the Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick, he had 67 catches for 854 yards and seven touchdowns. Advertisement But his Jets - yes, his Jets - went 5-12. And the team ended up cutting him. Adams is now with the Los Angeles Rams and saying all the things that high-profile guys say when they land in a new setting. "I feel like this is what I needed just based off the vibe and the aura of the building," Adams said. "And everybody's in a good mood. It's not like a dark cloud over the building. And I've experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it's a glaring difference when you come into a building like this." Oh. We're not arguing about the "dark cloud'' and its existence in New York. What we are doing is wondering how Adams (and Rodgers, too) fail to realize that they were charged with the responsibility clearing the cloud and bringing the sunshine. ... and because they didn't do that, they weren't "under a dark cloud.'' Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh's premature firing may have destined the 2024 campaign to disaster, but the move wasn't made without cause. Between a lack of discipline, disasters under center, and the media circus that overshadowed much of his regime, plenty went wrong in East Rutherford. Advertisement But Saleh is still one of the top defensive minds in the sport, and his track record of developing players on his side of the ball has helped retain optimism well after his dismissal. Among the success stories are linebackers Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood. The former broke out under Saleh's watch, ascending to All-Pro status next to veteran C.J. Mosley. The latter picked up the slack when Mosley went down with an injury in 2024. Sherwood quickly became one of the best – and most important – players on New York's defense. Keeping him on the right developmental track is integral to next year's unit meeting expectations. An obstacle on that path is the coaching turnover after Saleh (and eventually Jeff Ulbrich) was fired. Linebackers coach Mike Rutenberg was a victim of those moves. Advertisement New head coach Aaron Glenn replaced him with Aaron Curry. The early returns seem to be favorable, with Sherwood praising the Jets' new position coach on June 12. 'In our linebacker meetings room, he [Curry] has been super interactive with us, he listens to us. He helps us relate our new defense to our last defense so it's easier for us,' Sherwood said. Curry is a well-respected position coach who has worked under former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and, more recently, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. That's an excellent pairing to learn from, and that pedigree isn't lost on Glenn, who's attempting to build a culture in East Rutherford. Sherwood, meanwhile, took his breakout campaign to free agency, where New York retained his services for three years and $45 million. By keeping him in the building, the Jets are striving both for continuity and growing trust between regime and roster. Sherwood played well and he was rewarded, handsomely. Both wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner are extension eligible, heading into the final year of their rookie contracts. Advertisement According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Jets have begun talks with both players regarding extensions. 'I'm told they've had some preliminary talks, exchange of numbers, had all that fun stuff as far as new deals,' Fowler said during SportsCenter on Saturday morning. 'They've got five-to-six weeks to see if they can come to an agreement before training camp.' Gardner and Wilson were present for mandatory minicamp this week, opposed to veterans such as Trey Hendrickson and T.J. Watt, who are threatening holdouts if new deals do not materialize. 'I just wanted to show my teammates and the coaches how much I'm bought into this,' Gardner said after Thursday's practice. 'I want to win. I want to be a part of changing the organization.' Advertisement Gardner also confirmed on Thursday that his camp and the Jets have begun discussions. 'My main focus is being the best football player I can be,' Gardner said, 'but my team and the Jets have been talking, and I feel really good about how the talks have been going. I don't really want to get into the numbers.' The Jets could take a page out of the Cincinnati Bengals' playbook and sign both players on the same day. After all, according to Gardner, he and Wilson are close, sharing goals and pushing one another to be better. 'Since Day 1, [Wilson and I] came here saying we have to push each other because we want to help the organization,' Gardner said. 'If you win in New York, it's big for your legacy individually, big for the organization. Fast-forward, we're going into Year 4 together, and we always talk about competing at practice and how we have to make each other better because we are the building blocks for this organization. We are the homegrown talent that [Aaron Glenn] talks about.' Advertisement Glenn, the Jets' first year head coach, spoke a lot to the media about valuing young players and building a core from within. While he wasn't with the organization when Gardner and Wilson were drafted, he's taking the responsibility of cultivating homegrown talent personally. Glenn has personally challenged Gardner to be a leader in the locker room. 'Here's what I want Sauce to do, and here's what I'll talk to him about who, about who he needs to be,' Glenn said on Thursday, via the Jets' team website. 'When you do lead, just let your influence do all the talking. How do you operate in the huddle with the players in the locker room? That speaks more than the rah-rah guy, and he understands that, because influence, to me, is what, really, leadership is about. How do you influence your other teammates? How do you influence people around you, no matter what? And I think he's done a really good job of that.' Glenn isn't the only Jets coach trying to challenge Gardner. After the Jets hired Steve Wilks as their new defensive coordinator, Wilks challenged Gardner to take his game to another level, a challenge that Gardner is taking on with open arms. 'I know I'm not perfect,' Gardner said, 'but the fact that [Wilks] is trying to get perfection out of me is what I need. I've had a lot of early success in the league, and the last thing I need is a new regime to come in here and allow me to be complacent — not saying that's who I am. It's great to have those types of guys who are going to demand a lot out of me and push me in ways I've never been pushed before.'
