Central Bank of Jordan maintains interest rates unchanged
The CBJ said in a statement that the decision was a result of the bank's commitment to closely monitor the national economy's developments, particularly monetary and banking indicators.
It also said that the decision aligns with a comprehensive review of the international and regional economic dynamics.
Citing the latest economic indicators, the bank said that Jordan's economy has shown notable resilience and flexibility in the face of persistent geopolitical tensions in the region, with the country's GDP growing by 2.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, marking an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
The CBJ projects the economy will maintain this growth rate throughout the year, buoyed by strengthening domestic and external demand.
Economic indicators confirm the strength of monetary stability in the Kingdom, the bank said, adding that its currency reserves surpassed $22 billion at the end of June, sufficient to cover 8.4 months of the country's imports of goods and services.
Inflation has remained steady, averaging 2 per cent during the first half of the year, with full-year projections hovering around 2.2 per cent, CBJ said. 'This price stability supports consumer purchasing power and bolsters the competitiveness of the national economy.'
The CBJ said that the banking sector continues to post strong figures. Customer deposits at local banks rose by 7.1 per cent year-on-year, reaching JD48.2 billion by the end of June. Credit facilities extended by banks grew by 3.9 per cent to JD35.5 billion over the same period.
Financial soundness indicators reflect a robust banking system, with the capital adequacy ratio standing at 18.0 per cent, 'among the highest in the region,' the bank said, adding that the legal liquidity ratio reached 144.7 per cent, well above the CBJ's required minimum of 100 per cent.
The CBJ said that the external sector also reported positive performance, with tourism revenues increasing by 11.9 per cent in the first half of the year to reach $3.7 billion compared to the same period in 2024.
Total exports saw a significant rise of 8.6 per cent during the first five months of 2025, totalling $5.6 billion, the CBJ said.

JCI issues report on challenges of food industry sector
AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) issued the third report of its reform series "Regulatory Challenges Waiting to be Addressed", which was dedicated to the food, catering, agricultural and livestock industries, one of the sectors most closely related to food security and economic stability. The JCI stressed that addressing these challenges is a national priority and is in line with the priorities of the EMV and the food security strategy, noting that the solutions proposed in the report do not require new budgets or direct financial support, but rather decisions that enhance local production.

ACI exports reach JD4.207b in first 7 months of 2025
AMMAN — Exports from the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) rose by 14.9 per cent during the first seven months of 2025, according to statistics data monitored on Wednesday. According to statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the chamber's exports, based on certificates of origin it issued, reached JD4.207 billion in the first seven months of 2025, compared with JD3.660 billion for the same period last year. Eight industrial sub-sectors recorded increases in their exports during the reporting period, ranging from 2.5 per cent for therapeutic and medical supplies to 78 per cent for construction industries. Exports from the wood and furniture sector declined by 8.2 per cent, while the packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies sector dropped by 7.6 per cent. Four countries—India, the US, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq—accounted for more than half of the ACI's exports in the first seven months of this year, with a combined total of JD2.421 billion. In terms of geographic distribution during the January–July period of 2025, Arab countries topped the list with JD2 billion in exports, followed by non-Arab Asian countries with JD935 million, and North American countries with JD723 million. Exports to EU countries totalled JD252 million, while exports to non-EU European countries stood at JD135 million. Exports to African nations reached JD87 million, South American countries JD37 million, and other destinations JD32 million.

2nd Jordan International Food Festival kicks off in Amman
AMMAN — The second edition of the Jordan International Food Festival (JIFF) lunched on Wednesday in Amman, with wide participation from major food industry brands, as well as local and international chefs. The festival management and organisers said that the festival embodies a vital platform to promote Jordanian food products and highlights the importance of Jordan on the world cultural tourism map, according to The Jordan News Agency, Petra. They added that the festival sheds light on the distinguished heritage of Jordanian food and enhances the Kingdom's status as a unique travel destination. The festival had dispatched a relief convoy to Gaza ahead of its official opening as part of its humanitarian efforts, in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO), and with contributions from participating companies, institutions, and individuals. The relief assistance will total 300 tonnes of food and medical supplies, to be delivered in three batches before and during the festival, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip amid the difficult humanitarian conditions caused by the Israeli siege. They also said: "The festival forms a bridge between tradition and modernity, connecting local community and its guests from around the world, and linking diverse cuisines with the stories they tell.' Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Spokesperson Anas Adwan said that the initiative represents Jordan's commitment to the causes of the Arab nation, and reflects the national role of the tourism sector in carrying humanitarian values. He also added that this year's festival combines support for local products with solidarity with the people of Gaza and the donation channels will remain open throughout the festival, encouraging continued public participation. JIFF continues until August 11, featuring a diverse programme of live shows, workshops, and competitions that highlight the richness of both Jordanian and international cuisine. Dedicated areas have also been allocated for youth-led and entrepreneurial projects in the food sector. This year's festival features 165 entrepreneurial projects, including 76 women-led initiatives, 180 Jordanian restaurants, and 20 food manufacturing companies, according to Petra. It also supports 38 local communities through production kitchens, handicrafts, and cultural exhibitions. JTB also announced that ticket proceeds from the festival of the 2025 edition will be donated to support children in Gaza.
