The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country aiming to transform regional mobility and driving socio-economic integration.

Kashmir to Kanyakumari no longer just a slogan: LG Sinha

JAMMU: J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha lavished praise on PM Narendra Modi Friday for making the 'Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari slogan' a reality and carrying forward what he said was 'a socio-economic revolution in J&K' since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. 'He has connected the hearts of millions of Indians, forging an unbreakable bond from north to south,' Sinha said in Katra after PM Modi inaugurated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link and flagged off the Valley's first Vande Bharat Express service. The LG said the world's tallest railway bridge, built over the Chenab, and Anji rail bridge were representative of this progress. 'The skills of our engineers to build the Chenab and Anji bridges, and the toil of our workers who carved a rail route through the mountains have eliminated the gaps that existed between India's crown jewel and the rest of the country.' Sinha pointed out that since April 2022, the PM had commissioned or inaugurated Rs 1.15 lakh crore worth of projects for J&K.

Another top Maoist with 45L bounty killed in encounter

Raipur: In yet another big blow to the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), another senior Maoist rank cadre — Bhaskar, who carried Rs 45 lakh bounty — was neutralized on Friday in an encounter that broke out in the same area where Maoists central committee member Sudhakar alias Tentu Lakshmi Narasimha Chalam was gunned down on Thursday in the forests of Bijapur. The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday being carried out by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras took place the whole day and after the guns fell silent, security forces recovered the body of 45-year-old Maoist Bhaskar, who carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana. Bhaskar was a Special Zonal Committee member of Telangana State Committee and was reportedly operating in the dense forests of Indravati National Park — a known Maoist stronghold. Three days ago, TOI had reported that security forces in Bastar have precise information on the locations of nine top Maoist commanders in Bastar division, and an operation to eliminate them is imminent unless they surrender. Speaking to TOI, Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj said, "As part of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the National Park area of Bijapur district, security forces have recovered the dead body of another male cadre. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. IG stated that an AK-47 rifle along with other explosives, weapons, and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. "Bhaskar, a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana, was the Secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the CPI (Maoist) outfit," the IG further said. In the same operation on June 5, security forces had recovered the body of Central Committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar along with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation in the area is still ongoing to trace other Maoist cadres in the nearby area. Detailed information regarding other Maoist casualties and recoveries will be shared after the operation concludes and full confirmation is received. Canadian thaw! Mark Carney invites PM Modi for G7 meet

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that he will be attending the G7 Summit later this month in Canada following a phone call from newly elected PM Mark Carney , signalling an improvement in bilateral ties following the changing of the guard in the North American country. The summit will be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15-17. It will be Modi's maiden engagement abroad since Operation Sindoor, presenting him with an opportunity to highlight the menace of cross-border terrorism at a global forum. In a post on X, Modi wrote, "Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister @MarkJCarney of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month." He added India and Canada, as "vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties", would work together "with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests". The visit is expected to mark the beginning of improvement in ties, which were hit by former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's "pro-Khalistan policies", said experts. During the summit, Modi could meet other G7 leaders - from the US, UK, France, Italy, Japan and Germany - including US President Donald Trump. This year's summit is especially significant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the G7. ET had reported in April that India was planning to restore ties with Canada at the level of high commissioner months after withdrawing its envoy over the " Khalistan extremism " issue, with seasoned Indian diplomat Dinesh Patnaik being considered for the post. Patnaik, currently India's envoy to Spain may be appointed as India's next envoy to Ottawa, according to people in the know.
