FreshRealm Voluntarily Recalls Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo Meals Due to Possible Listeria Contamination
The meals are sold nationwide at Walmart, under the Marketside brand and Kroger, under the Home Chef brand.
The following products are subject to recall:
Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine 12.3 oz
Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine 32.8 oz
Home Chef Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo 12.5 oz
FreshRealm has notified Walmart and Kroger to remove this meal from their shelves and inventory. Consumers who have purchased the meal should destroy it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
Out of an abundance of caution, FreshRealm is recalling the product while the investigation proceeds. The investigation will focus on how Listeria may have entered the product, and whether it entered from a FreshRealm facility, or through any of the ingredients that FreshRealm received from external ingredient suppliers.
FreshRealm remains committed to the highest standards of food safety and is working closely with the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide full transparency and access throughout the process.
FreshRealm is issuing this voluntary recall strictly as a precautionary step with a full commitment to public health and safety. The company has not received any direct reports of illness associated with the product and has received information on cases from the regulatory agencies, including that four consumers have reported eating the chicken alfredo product. Seventeen total cases are being investigated by the regulatory agencies, including three deaths and one pregnancy loss. The recalled product has not been established as a cause of any of these cases.
This voluntary recall does not apply to any other FreshRealm produced products.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.
Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers with questions about this recall may contact FreshRealm's customer service at 888-244-1562.

US recalls Indonesian shrimp over radioactivity scare
WASHINGTON: United States health authorities announced a major frozen shrimp recall over potential radioactive contamination concerns. The Food and Drug Administration identified imported seafood from Indonesian company PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati as the source. Walmart supermarkets distributed the potentially affected products across thirteen American states. Radioactive isotope Cesium 137 detection triggered the precautionary recall measure. FDA officials emphasized the detected radioactivity levels remain minimal for immediate health risks. The agency confirmed no actually contaminated shrimp reached store shelves yet. However, improper handling conditions created potential contamination possibilities. Long-term consumption of even low-dose Cesium carries elevated cancer risks. This scientific understanding motivated the aggressive recall strategy. Walmart cooperated fully with authorities to remove all suspect products immediately. Consumers who purchased these specific shrimp batches should discard them immediately. The FDA continues monitoring all imports from the identified Indonesian supplier. Additional testing protocols will prevent future contamination incidents. No illnesses have been reported connected to the recalled products thus far. - AFP

US recalls Indonesian shrimp over radioactivity scare
WASHINGTON: US health authorities announced Tuesday a recall of frozen shrimp potentially contaminated with radioactivity. The seafood imported from a company in Indonesia has been marketed in 13 states by retail giant Walmart, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on its website. The recall follows the detection of the radioactive isotope Cesium 137 in shrimp imported through the company called PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, the advisory said. The level of radioactivity detected was minimal and the product would not pose "an acute hazard" to consumers, the FDA said. No shrimp imported by the company and stocked for sale in US stores has tested positive for radioactivity, the agency said. But shrimp from the firm "appears to have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby it may have become contaminated with Cs-137 and may pose a safety concern." Over the long term, even low-dose Cesium exposure is linked to an elevated risk of cancer, it added. The FDA asked Walmart to stage a recall of the shrimp and urged people who already bought the product to throw it away.--AFP
