Truck rams divider in Agra, 4 dead
Four people, including a mini truck driver and three morning walkers, were killed in a road accident in Agra's Trans Yamuna area on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred when a mango-laden mini loader lost control, rammed into a divider, and struck three men resting by the roadside after a walk.
According to Hemant Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Chatta, the mishap took place on the flyover near Shahdara police outpost under the Trans Yamuna police station limits. 'The truck, travelling on the opposite channel, veered off course and crashed into the divider, fatally hitting the three pedestrians. The driver, Krishna, 38, was found trapped in the cabin and died on the spot. His cleaner was critically injured and is undergoing treatment.'
'The driver may have dozed off while driving in the early hours, leading to the accident,' ACP Kumar said.
The deceased pedestrians were identified as Rameshwar, 52, Hari Babu, 65, and Rajesh Kumar, 55, all local residents.
E-way crash leaves two more dead
In another incident, a Bihar-bound private sleeper bus collided with a stationary truck near a toll plaza on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, within Fatehabad police station limits. The accident occurred around 1 am Wednesday, injuring 20 passengers. Two of the injured later died during treatment at the SN Medical College and Hospital.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 18 (ANI): In the aftermath of the Air India plane crash on June 12 which claimed the lives of 241 people, the Ahmedabad Police on Wednesday said that a green corridor was established to allow ambulances swift and unhindered access, while ground rescue operations were immediately launched. Speaking about the days following the incident, Ahmedabad Police Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Jaipal S Rathore said, 'After the Air India plane crash on June 12, Ahmedabad Police acted promptly, reaching the crash site along with senior officials, including the Joint Commissioner and members of the Commissionerate amongst others.' 'A green corridor was quickly established to ensure ambulances could operate without delay. Rescue operations were launched on the ground, and police coordinated with emergency and medical teams to begin the process of handling casualties,' said the JCP. He further said that in a structured and sensitive approach to the recovery operation, police formed 75 specialised teams tasked with receiving mortal remains, facilitating post-mortem procedures, and collecting DNA samples. 'Rescue work began and a green corridor was created for ambulances. All arrangements were done, along with police officials, 75 teams were created so that as and when the bodies arrived, they could be sent for post mortem investigations and DNA sampling,' said Rathore. He added, 'DNA matching operations began on June 14, after which authorities started handing over the remains to the relatives. All foreign nationals, especially those from UK, Portugal, Canada, their relatives are being informed after the post-mortem and DNA process is completed and the mortal remains are being handed over to them after their arrival.' Meanwhile, DNA samples of 190 victims of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad have matched with their family members, and the bodies of 157 victims have been handed over, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi confirmed on Wednesday. Joshi said that of the 190 matched DNA samples, 123 are of Indian nationals and 27 are from the United Kingdom. He added that the DNA of a Canadian citizen has also been a media briefing, Joshi said, '... Till 1045 hours today, 190 DNA samples have matched. Mortal remains of 157 deceased have been handed over to their families... ‘Provide full security': SC directs Bihar, Delhi senior cops to ensure safety of minor girl seeking annulment of marriage
The Supreme Court Wednesday asked the Bihar director general of police and Delhi Police commissioner to provide security to a girl who was allegedly forced into a marriage with a contractor, and is now seeking its annulment after escaping from her in-laws' house. A bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan also directed the senior police officers to ensure that no harm is caused to her or her friend who held her escape. The court also sought a status report from the police on the next date of hearing on July 15. In her plea, the girl claimed to have been forcibly married to Bihar-based contractor Jai Shankar on December 9, 2024, when she was 16 and a half years old, towards the repayment of the debts owed by her parents. Alleging physical abuse by the 33-year-old man, she also sought the annulment of her marriage with him under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. 'Her husband, who is a civil contractor, claimed that the petitioner's parents were indebted to them and she would have to continue in the marriage rather than go for further studies to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher or a lawyer,' her plea said. The girl also claimed that she was on the run with a friend, and feared for their lives if they returned to Bihar. She said she was sent away immediately after the wedding ceremony, even though her Class 10 board examinations were due to start. She said she had been assured that she would return to her parents after two days, but was not allowed to do so 'by her in-laws who claimed to have given and spent a lot of money for the marriage and repeatedly told her that they wanted a baby'. 'The petitioner is a hapless victim of child marriage who stands forlorn with no help from family and society in her fight to walk out of the abusive child marriage and hence pleads for invocation of the parens patriae jurisdiction of this court in the best interest of the petitioner,' the plea added. In the order, the Supreme Court pointed out that the writ petition was filed by 'a minor through her next of kin under Article 32 of the Constitution of India'. 'Petitioner has alleged that she has been forcibly married off to Respondent No. 4 (contractor) despite the fact that she is a minor. She has not got the parental support required at this stage. On the other hand, Respondent No. 4 and his family members are now pursuing the petitioner and her next of kin. It is in these circumstances that the petitioner has approached this court seeking the following reliefs… Issue notice. We direct the Director General of Police, Bihar, as well as the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, to provide full security to the petitioner to ensure that no harm is caused to the petitioner and her next friend.' The top court also directed that necessary instructions be issued 'to the police authorities to be in touch with the petitioner and her next friend'. 'In case of any emergency, necessary assistance can be provided. Respondents Nos. 1 and 2 submit a separate status report in a sealed cover to the Court by the next date.'
