Implying that the questions raised by the ASI had credibility, Pandiarajan, who is at present AIADMK's deputy propaganda secretary, told the media that Ramakrishna's report said the antiquity of Tamil civilisation might date from the 5th century CE to the 5th century BCE.
'In other words, he suggests it could be any year within that span of thousand years. That is what he calls a discovery. Will anyone accept such a claim?' Pandiarajan asked.
He further questioned the reason for the delay of many years in submitting the report by Ramakrishna, who carried out the first two phases of excavations in Keezhadi before he was suddenly transferred by the ASI to Assam in 2017.
Since the controversy broke out in the end of May, the principal opposition party of Tamil Nadu had largely remained silent on the issue, while the ruling DMK and its allies have been vehemently attacking the BJP for trying to suppress the antiquity of Tamil civilisation.

SC directs preservation of 12th-century monuments at Mehrauli Archaeological Park
New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed that historic monuments located inside Mehrauli Archaeological Park, including the 12th-century Ashiq Allah Dargah and the Chillagah of Baba Farid, must be preserved and asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to consider taking them under its supervision for repair and renovation. A Bench comprising Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice R. Mahadevan was hearing appeals against a Delhi High Court order which had declined to protect the structures from proposed demolition by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Petitioners argued that the centuries-old sites, of cultural and religious significance were wrongly treated as encroachments. Pulling up the DDA during the hearing, Justice Nagarathna asked: 'Why do you want to demolish it in the first place?' The authority responded that it was not targeting the dargah itself but unauthorised ancillary constructions around it. The Bench, however, underlined that while no fresh construction or alteration should be permitted, the ancient monuments themselves must be preserved. 'That monument has to be preserved. We are only concerned with the monument,' Justice Nagarathna observed. Advocate Nizam Pasha, for the appellants, submitted that the structures could not be dismissed as encroachments. He cited the ASI's report, which confirmed their antiquity, including an inscription recording that the tomb of Shaikh Shahibuddin was built in 1317 AD. The report also noted that the dargah and chillagah fall within the 200-metre regulated zone of Prithviraj Chauhan's citadel under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act. Highlighting their continuing cultural significance, the ASI said devotees light lamps at the Ashiq Allah Dargah for the fulfilment of wishes and visit Baba Farid's chillagah to ward off evil spirits. The court also cautioned that heritage protection cannot be misused to shield illegal constructions. Referring to its earlier directions, Justice Nagarathna said: 'You cannot have temples in the middle of the road or on footpaths. There should be no construction around this monument.' Disposing of the appeals, the Supreme Court observed: 'The ASI should take under its consideration the supervision of the monuments in question in the matter of repair, renovation.' UNI SNG SSP

Hemant govt ‘grabbing' tribal land, says Champai
1 2 Ranchi: BJP MLA from Seraikela and former CM Champai Soren on Tuesday hit out at the Hemant Soren-led alliance govt by reiterating that the incumbent regime is busy "grabbing" tribal land. Addressing the media in Kanke ahead of his announced stir on Aug 24 against the proposed Rims-2 hospital project, Champai demanded that the state govt take this project to the Smart City area. "On Aug 24, I will be part of the mass protest here where tribals will plough the field to raise their voice against the govt's attempt to grab their agricultural land in the name of the hospital project. Neither I nor anyone else is against this project, but all that we are demanding is that farmers must not be robbed of the agricultural land," said Champai. Notably, in the past, many BJP leaders have already criticised this project at this particular site, citing large-scale displacement of farmers. Champai accused the state govt of violating the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act before acquiring the land for the project. However, the govt had earlier said the land belonged to it. "Nobody got any notices for land acquisition here. How can the govt take the land without following the rules? Under this regime, tribals and their land are constantly under threat," the former CM claimed. Reacting to the stir in the past, state health minister Irfan Ansari had said the land belongs to the govt and the project was aimed at revamping healthcare infrastructure, which will benefit people of Ranchi as well as the state.
