Emotional Martin happy to be back competing after injury setbacks
Wrist and ankle injuries suffered in a pre-season crash ruled the 27-year-old Spaniard out of the first three rounds before another crash in his first race on board the Aprilia bike in Qatar in April led to a collapsed lung and bruised ribs.
He marked his comeback with an impressive fifth place finish at the Czech MotoGP practice in Brno on Friday.
"I miss this feeling a lot and just focused," Martin told reporters. "It was a really demanding day, having all these conditions on track. We had to be always really focused.
"The dry line was really narrow in some corners so it was difficult to be consistent. I missed the consistency by being out for a lot of months.
"It was really emotional after finishing in the top five, not because of the result itself, but because I am back. I did a great job today. I am really happy."
Friday's practice session was Martin's first time on the Aprilia in the rain.

Report: LIV weekly purse increasing to $30M in 2026
Chile's Joaquin Niemann plays a shot on the 18th on the final day of the LIV Golf League event. LOS ANGELES – The weekly purses for LIV Golf competitions will increase to US$30 million in 2026, with the extra US$5 million going toward the team competition, the Sports Business Journal reported on Monday. Beginning next season, US$20 million in purse money will continue to cover individual stroke play with US$10 million dedicated to the team competition, per the report. By comparison, the eight Signature Events of the PGA Tour carry US$20 million payouts. The highest payout on the PGA Tour – even among Majors – is The Players Championship at US$25 million. The 13 LIV Golf teams are set up to be run independently, with each captain signing his own commercial deals and players. The onus of onboarding new players in the offseason is now more focused on teams and captains, with the enormous signing bonuses in the early stages of the league a thing of the past, per the SBJ. In other golf news, American Brianna Do and Canadian Anna Huang were among the 17 players to earn spots in this week's AIG Women's Open via Monday's 18-hole qualifier. Harley Davidson nears financing unit deal with Pimco, KKR
[NEW YORK] Harley-Davidson is in advanced talks to sell a stake in its financing unit as well as its existing motorcycle loan portfolio in a deal worth US$5 billion to Pacific Investment Management Company (Pimco) and KKR, according to sources with knowledge of the matter. The firms' private credit arms are in discussions to purchase an interest in the bike maker's Harley-Davidson Financial Services, or HDFS, the sources said. HDFS, which was put up for sale earlier this year, helps the company's dealers finance their inventory and lends to consumers for the purchase of Harley-Davidson and LiveWire motorcycles. The US$5 billion price tag would include the iconic bike maker's existing book of motorcycle loans, the sources said, adding that Pimco and KKR are also seeking to purchase the debt the firm originates in the future. A deal could be announced within weeks, they added. Conversations are ongoing and details and size of the deal may change. Spokespeople for Pimco and KKR declined to comment, while a representative for Harley-Davidson did not respond to requests for comment. Sign Up Sign Up The potential sale comes as Harley-Davidson grapples with lacklustre sales growth and stiff competition from rivals, including Honda Motor and BMW. The motorcycle maker is set to report results on Jul 30. Its shares are down around 22 per cent year-to-date. Harley Davidson's chief executive officer Jochen Zeitz said in May that 'the HDFS transaction is continuing to progress with multiple interested parties'. The company said earlier this year that it has retained an executive search firm to find a replacement for Zeitz, who intends to retire. Private credit firms have been growing their footprint in the US$5.2 trillion asset based market, which encompasses everything from auto loans to residential mortgages and can often receive investment-grade ratings. Some of them have been buying up stakes in the companies that originate those consumer loans while also purchasing the debt they originate. For instance, Carlyle Group has done so in the past by acquiring minority stakes in firms such as Sungage Financial, which provides financing for residential solar cells. Often times, these firms may look to repackage those loans into securities of varying risk and size. Harley-Davidson is no stranger to that asset-backed bond market, having previously repackaged its motorcycle loans into notes, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. BLOOMBERG

Singapore lion dance troupe Yi Wei defends Genting World title with two top spots
A lion dance troupe from Singapore's Yi Wei Athletic Association has successfully defended its title at the 15th Genting World Lion Dance Championship on 27 July 2025. Yi Wei had broken Malaysia's 13-year winning streak when it won the championship in 2023. The prestigious competition, held biennially, draws the best lion dance troupes from around the region. This year, Yi Wei sent two teams of eight performers each to compete. Both teams secured the top spots once again in the battle of Chinese mythical creatures. Team B emerged as the grand champion with an impressive score of 9.78. Team A claimed the first runner-up position with a score of 9.66. Organised by Resorts World Genting in Malaysia, the three-day tournament attracted 40 teams from places including China, Hong Kong and Australia. Yi Wei's Team A themed its performance on Guan Gong, a legendary military general revered as the Chinese god of war. Team B chose Nezha, a popular deity depicted as a youthful warrior. The teams prepared for months at a rented facility on Defu Lane in Singapore. This year, Resorts World Genting increased the prize pool to mark its 60th anniversary celebrations. Malaysia's Transport Minister Antony Loke presented the trophies to the winning teams. Yi Wei's Team B took home US$18,000 (S$23,000) while Team A won US$10,000 for its runner-up finish. In comparison, the 2023 champion received US$15,000 and the runners-up earned US$8,000 and US$5,000 respectively. Yi Wei's celebrations will be held at a later date. According to Lee from Yi Wei, the troupe is now focused on upcoming competitions, starting with the 29th Ngee Ann City National Lion Dance Championships from 8 to 13 September.
