In a now-viral post on LinkedIn, Purvi Jain shared how her recent late-night train ride left her thinking about how far Indian Railways - and the country - had come in ensuring women's safety.'Yesterday, while I was travelling alone on a latenight train from Mumbai to Surat, two women police officers entered my compartment at around 11p.m. and asked, 'Seat 38 - Purvi?' A bit confused, I told them I was Purvi,' she wrote.advertisement
She said the officers didn't just confirm her identity, they paused to check if she was comfortable, offered a helpline number, and told her to call in case she ever felt unsafe. 'I'd never experienced anything like this before, even though I travel frequently,' she added.Jain later learned that the cops had specifically come to check on her since she was listed as a solo woman passenger. An elderly couple seated nearby were just as surprised. 'They said their granddaughter often travels alone, and gestures like this make them feel reassured,' Jain noted. The short but thoughtful interaction left Jain thinking about the larger picture. 'That small moment made me reflect on how much India's railways, and the country overall, have improved,' she wrote. From high-speed trains like Vande Bharat to quicker online ticket bookings, Jain acknowledged the strides made in passenger convenience.'We're not perfect, and we're certainly not on par with developed nations yet. But moments like this - women officers ensuring solo female passengers feel secure, smooth digital ticketing, and other small changes - show real progress is happening, even if it's one step at a time,' she concluded.Take a look at the post here: LinkedIn users shared their thoughts in the comments section of the post. 'Your story adds a vital narrative to the bigger picture of India's progress. Small steps like these build trust for solo travellers. Kudos to the team behind it!' a user said. Another user added, 'I had a similar experience while travelling from Borivali to Surat. Lady officers gave me a helpline number and even asked me to text once I reached home. I believe they check the chart to identify women travelling alone and ensure they're safe.''Since 2020, I've seen this happen. Officers would come up to me on the platform, check if I was travelling alone, and even follow up the next day. It's comforting,' one of the users said. Indian Railways To Revamp 5 Nashik Stations Ahead Of Kumbh Mela, Know More

Last Updated: With a Rs 1,011 crore boost, five railway stations in Nashik are getting a big makeover to manage massive pilgrim rush during Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Indian Railways has announced a major revamp of five key stations in Nashik district – Nashik Road, Devlali, Odha, Kasbe Sukene, and Kherwadi. Approved by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Rs 1,011 crore plan aims to improve passenger facilities and train handling capacity in time for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. As per TOI, during a review meeting, top railway officials including Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, evaluated detailed proposals presented by Central Railway's senior team. Which Stations Are Getting Upgraded? Devlali Station Devlali, located near Nashik Road station on the Mumbai side, will see the addition of three new platforms. Two of them will manage traffic from Mumbai and Nashik separately, while the third will cater to passing trains. The station will also get six new lines – including pit lines, sick lines, and stabilising lines – for better train maintenance and parking. Nashik Road Station With space limitations, the focus here is on adding two parking lines. Platform 1 will be extended to fit 24-coach trains, and Platform 4 will be upgraded to serve trains from both directions. This station will become a key holding area during the mela, with five new stabilising lines and a third platform. During non-mela periods, Odha will be used for agricultural and goods transport. Kasbe Sukene & Kherwadi Stations Kasbe Sukene's platform will be extended to handle 22-coach trains, double the current capacity. Kherwadi will get two new platforms to accommodate 24-coach trains. What Other Facilities Are Being Added? Every station will be equipped with a special 'Mela Tower'—a hub for CCTV surveillance, announcements, control rooms, security, and large holding areas for pilgrims. Wider foot overbridges will also be built for safer and quicker movement. When Will It All Be Ready? About half of the work has already started. The rest will begin soon, with land acquisition likely from January 2026. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. US visa doesn't guarantee entry: Minor red flags can led to deportation

Bags packed, passport in hand, flight tickets checked, and finally the visa in order... now you're all set to head to the United States. But here's what many travellers overlook: Holding a valid US visa doesn't guarantee entry. The real decision happens at the airport. According to the US Department of State, a visa simply allows a foreign national to travel to a US port of entry and request permission to enter the country. The final decision rests with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offifcers at that entry point. 'They can deny entry even with a valid visa if they suspect the traveller is attempting to enter for unauthorised purposes, such as working without authorisation or staying longer than permitted,' the US government says. What the officer might check Once you land, CBP officers can ask about your travel plans, your visa category, and even check your digital footprint, including your social media activity. Abhisha Parikh, a US-based immigration lawyer, shared a post on social media explaining how minor digital traces can trigger suspicion. 'Let's say you said you're coming for vacation. But you've been browsing jobs on LinkedIn, or following US recruiters. That could raise red flags about your true intentions,' she said. If they suspect something's off According to Parikh, things can escalate quickly if the CBP officer isn't convinced by your responses. 'If the officer suspects you plan to: – Stay longer than allowed – Work without permission They can deny you entry — even with a valid visa,' Parikh said. She added that this situation is not rare. 'This happens. Often. People are turned away at the airport every day. It's stressful, frustrating — and sometimes permanent, depending on how the denial is handled.' Tips to avoid being sent back Parikh advises that travellers make sure their personal narrative aligns with the type of visa they've been issued. Her advice: < Know your visa type < Be consistent in your responses < Avoid sending mixed signals (especially online) 'Your visa is your ticket to try — but not your guarantee to enter,' she said. What the US government says The US government has also addressed these concerns in a publicly available FAQ. If you're unsure whether you might be admissible, they recommend getting professional help. 'Before you travel, if you have any concerns about your admissibility, you should seek legal counsel. CBP cannot provide legal advice to members of the public,' the US government says. What if you're denied entry? If found inadmissible at the port of entry, several outcomes are possible. One is being placed into removal proceedings. In some cases, the officer might allow you to withdraw your application for admission voluntarily. A finding of inadmissibility can also affect future entries—and might even lead to your visa being cancelled.

Woman Travelling Solo In Train At Night Gets Unexpected Visit From 2 Cops. Here's Why

Last Updated: It was when the solo traveller sat quietly on her seat around 11 PM that two women police officers walked into her coach and asked, 'Seat 38 – Purvi?' Indian Railways have indeed come a long way. There are faster trains, smoother booking options, and cleaner coaches, and adding to these facilities has emerged something even more meaningful – a growing sense of safety and support for passengers, especially women. Beyond big upgrades like Vande Bharat trains or digital ticketing, it is the human moments like these that truly leave a lasting impression. One such moment was recently shared by Purvi Jain, a woman who was travelling alone on a late-night train from Mumbai to Surat. Her post wherein she recounted how two women police officers made her journey feel safer is now going viral among the Internet and rightly so. When Police Officers Walked Into Coach It was when the solo traveller sat quietly on her seat around 11 PM that two women police officers walked into her coach and asked, 'Seat 38 – Purvi?" Confused, she said yes. What followed was a heartfelt act of care and a small but revolutionary step to ensure women's safety. In her detailed post, the woman recalled, 'They stopped, checked whether I was comfortable, and asked if I needed any help. Then they gave me a helpline number to call if I ever feel unsafe." Purvi who had never experienced this before, despite being a frequent traveller, was pleasantly surprised. An elderly couple sitting beside her also lauded the gesture, saying that it made them feel reassured, especially with their granddaughter also travelling solo at times. Moving further, the woman also reflected on her experience of the journey, saying that it made her think about the country's progress. 'That small moment made me reflect on how much India's railways — and the country overall — have improved. From Vande Bharat trains to seamless online ticket bookings (even Tatkal, thanks to a faster verification process), travel keeps getting smoother," she noted. India's Real Progress She also acknowledged that while India still has work to do to match developed nations, steps like these prove that real change is happening. 'Moments like this — women officers ensuring solo female passengers feel secure, smooth digital ticketing, and many other small changes — show real progress is happening, even if it's one step at a time." Internet Joins In Praise Soon after the woman shared the post, the internet quickly joined in to laud the move with some of them also sharing similar experiences to thank the officers for their service. One person wrote, 'Something similar happened with my mom—they even helped her change trains." Another commented, 'We need to celebrate more stories like this. It gives hope." 'This is not a one-time thing—this is real, thoughtful progress," someone else added. Well, the post of proof that India is definitely moving in the right direction. view comments Location : Delhi, India, India First Published: July 28, 2025, 13:16 IST News viral Woman Travelling Solo In Train At Night Gets Unexpected Visit From 2 Cops.
