Ponies clinch 11th straight win on Baseball and Education Day
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies continue their winning streak in front of one of the largest and youngest crowds of the year. The Ponies beat the Somerset Patriots 4 to 3 on Wednesday as they keep their now 11-game win streak alive. This winning streak is the third longest of all time for the team and the longest since 2006. In addition to the team's historic run, they were cheered on by over 5,100 young, adoring fans. The team held its Education and Baseball event, which gives elementary students the opportunity to come to the games as a field trip with their schools. The Rumble Ponies General Manager Richard Tylicki underscores the importance of having such a young crowd in attendance. 'It's critical because you're trying to grow the game. Youth sports participation is down nationwide, particularly in baseball, so by having the young people here, hopefully, you get them interested in baseball and they become either fans or players. The second part of it is a lot of these kids probably don't get a chance to come to a game, so coming as a field trip, not only enables them to come at a pretty inexpensive price but then doing it as a group is always much more fun when you do things with your friends,' said Tylicki. The Ponies have four more home games coming up this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Friday featuring fireworks.
