ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 13 (Bernama) – Negeri Sembilan FC head coach Mohd Nidzam Jamil is taking positives from last night's Super League clash against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) despite a 3-5 defeat.
He said Negeri Sembilan displayed great commitment in the match at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here, but found Johor Darul Ta'zim too powerful.
Mohd Nidzam said the way JDT fought back showed that they were a quality team with an unmatched level of discipline.

'We had to face pressure from a very mature side. They played with great quality and high discipline. In several situations, we conceded goals from set-pieces such as corner kicks, which exposed some weaknesses that need to be addressed,' he said at a post-match press conference last night.
Nevertheless, he urged his team to maintain their positive attitude and to press ahead, looking for goals in their coming matches.
'This is not easy, but we hope to take positives and continue rectifying our weaknesses, particularly in terms of tactics and defensive discipline,' he said.
He said Negeri Sembilan will also be focusing fully on the upcoming FA Cup competition, with the advantage of playing at home as their main asset in securing victory.
The coach also expressed hope that supporters and stakeholders would be patient and continue to back the team.
Negeri Sembilan got off to a brilliant start when Joseph Esso struck in the eighth minute, followed by a goal from Jovan Motika in the 12th minute, before JDT scored in the 38th minute and eventually won 5-3.

JDT come out tops in battle of Causeway champions

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) wasted little time announcing themselves on the Asean Club Championship (ACC) stage, storming to a 3-1 win over Lion City Sailors (LCS) in their Group B opener at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium today. The much-anticipated "Causeway Champions Clash" pitted Malaysia's Super League winners against Singapore's S-League title holders, and it was the home side who seized the early advantage. The game's first flashpoint came in the eighth minute when former Selangor stalwart Safuwan Baharudin was booked for a rash foul inside the area. After a VAR review, the referee awarded JDT a penalty, which Joao Figueiredo calmly tucked away with a precise right-footed strike into the bottom corner. The Brazilian forward doubled the Southern Tigers' lead just five minutes later, showing his predatory instincts with another composed finish from the centre of the box in the 16th minute. When fans at Iskandar Puteri were making their exit, Arif Aiman Hanapi roared the stadium back to life with a third goal in stoppage time (90+2). But the Singapore club managed to pull one back to reduce the deficit just before the final whistle (90+4) through a fantastic shot outside the box by Shawal Anuar. Next, JDT will host Thai League 1 runners-up Bangkok United at the same venue on Sept 25.

The Brazilian hitman scored two quick goals in the first 16 minutes of the game - slotting home a penalty in the 11th minute before punishing the LCS defence a second time five minutes later with a powerful drive. JDT, however, had to wait until added time in the second half to go 3-0 up through 23-year-old striker Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi.

JDT beat Lion City Sailors 3-1 in Asean Club Championship

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) got their Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup campaign off on the right foot after defeating neighbours Lion City Sailors of Singapore 3-1 on Thursday (Aug 21). In the Group B match, the Southern Tigers were quick to claw into the scoreline when national striker Joao Figueiredo converted a penalty in the 11th minute. The Brazil-born player then doubled the lead for the hosts five minutes later, giving them the cushion for the remainder of the match. Despite the Sailors best efforts to close the gap, nothing proved effective, and in injury time, JDT hotshot Arif Aiman Hanapi closed the door on any chance of a comeback by making it three. However, the Sailors got a consolation goal for their trip across the causeway through winger Shawal Anuar five minutes into added time. JDT will face Bangkok United next in their next group stage fixture on Sep 25.
