Drew Brees discusses AFC quarterbacks needing to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs for legacy

USA Today3 days ago
This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees about his partnership with Jimmy John's and creating his personalized sandwich, The Brees #9. He also compares the other top AFC quarterbacks competing with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to the challenges NBA great Michael Jordan faced early in his career.
"I lived on that (Jimmy John's) in college, and then obviously, here we are 25 years later. That's still probably one of my favorite meals. There is a slight modification because I can't do dairy, so I have no cheese and add hot peppers. So that is the actual secret to the Brees #9, and from now until the end of August, even though I'm trying to talk them into the rest of the year, it will be a Jimmy John's anywhere in the country," said Brees, "You say, Give me the Brees #9. That is exactly the sandwich you're going to get. It's the Italian nightclub, and those proceeds will go to the Jimmy John's Foundation, which supports the Brees Dream Foundation and Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide. So really, excited about that. We've got 12 stores in the New Orleans market that have been doing that since 2011, and it's been a great relationship and partnership with Jimmy John's ever since."
Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are recent MVPs who haven't been able to reach the Super Bowl due to losses in the AFC Championship to Mahomes and the Chiefs. Brees believes that both superstar players must lead their teams to the big game for their legacies.
"I think they have to (defeat Kansas City), and you look at the history of sports and from going back to the (Chicago) Bulls and (Detroit) Pistons." said Brees, "Bulls couldn't get past the Pistons, and figure out a way to do it, and the bad boys go into and they're beating up Jordan, and then, Jordan goes through that, that evolution of, all right, I got to gain 15 pounds so I can take the pounding and I go in the paint against these guys. So, just little things like that, where it's like, Alright, what's going to be the key because there's no doubt that both the (Baltimore) Ravens and the (Buffalo) Bills sit there on their schedule, and they circle the Chiefs. Not only do we have to get by these guys in the regular season, but they're the team that we're gonna have to beat in the postseason, and in many cases, it's been in Arrowhead (Stadium), although the Chiefs have gone everywhere I want to. So yeah, absolutely, that's what they're thinking about."
Fans can order The Brees #9, Drew's personal Jimmy John's go-to order, for the first time. Available for a limited time through August 31st, the order supports Jimmy John's Foundation, benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Brees Dream Foundation.

These 5 Chiefs were injured during Kansas City's preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks

The Kansas City Chiefs were unable to escape their preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks with a clean injury report. According to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, five Chiefs players sustained injuries in the game, including former first-round pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah and rookie defensive back Nohl Williams. Among the others mentioned by Reid were veterans Mike Edwards, Jack Cochrane, and Nazeeh Johnson, all of whom were members of the Kansas City's Super Bowl LVIII roster. While the exact nature of the players' injuries is unknown, Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen shared a brief update on their status in a post to Twitter after Friday's game: Injuries are to be expected in the preseason, but with just weeks remaining before Kansas City's Week 1 kickoff against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, the Chiefs can't afford to be without any of their top players. Stay tuned for more information about Kansas City's injuries as more information becomes available postgame. Seahawks running backs dominate first half vs Kansas City Chiefs

The Seattle Seahawks currently lead the Kansas City Chiefs 23-7 at halftime. Seattle extended their lead with a pair of touchdown strikes from Drew Lock to Jake Bobo (fittingly, both for 12 yards). However, the real story of the first half is how dominant the rushing attack has been. We all know the Seahawks' top goal on offense in 2025 is to run the ball better this year. Well, early signs sure look like they are going to be well improved in this phase of the game. During the first half against the Chiefs, the Seahawks rushed for 174 yards as a team on 22 attempts. The top carriers were: George Holani, five rushes for 49 yards Zach Charbonnet, five rushes for 45 yards and a touchdown Damien Martinez, seven rushes for 39 yards Drew Lock (yes), 2 rushes for 34 yards Also contributing are Jacardia Wright who had five yards on three carries, and Jalen Milroe who had two yards from his tush push attempt. Seattle is outright dominating Kansas City on the ground. If they can find a way to translate this to the regular season, the Seahawks are going to have a deadly offense to deal with.
