‘I reached Rs 1 cr net worth before turning 26, but stress broke me': Bengaluru techie says he ‘lost hair, drank alcohol'

A Reddit post by a young tech professional has sparked a lively discussion online after he revealed that he built a net worth of Rs 1 crore within just four years of starting his career.
In his post, the 25-year-old explained how he reached the milestone shortly before his 26th birthday. 'I reached 1 crore net worth, across equity (Indian + US), MFs (Indian), deposits and money at hand at the age 25. It was shortly before I turned 26, but my aim was to reach that at 25. So that's a target achieved I guess,' he wrote.
The poster, an IIT graduate from a middle-class background, credited the 'IIT tag' for opening doors in his career. While financial stability has allowed him to live comfortably, from eating healthy and staying fit to pursuing hobbies, he admitted that it has also changed his relationship with money. 'I can splurge (read 'waste') money, without much consequences. I have games on my PS5 worth tens of thousands that I haven't played for more than 30 mins… I fly premium economy most of the time, and get business class upgrades 1-2 times a year,' he shared.
But alongside the perks, he was candid about the hidden costs of achieving the goal. 'While the financial freedom spoils you, the stress from work is extremely high. Quite literally, it breaks you down. I have lost hair, lost weight, at times drank alcohol very frequently just to cope with it. In my defense, I am taking better care of myself now.'

The thread soon went viral, with Redditors offering both praise and caution. One user wrote, 'Please do not drink alcohol alone when you are stressed… Someone I know lost his life because of alcohol addiction. If you are stressed, go out with friends or work out, and limit alcohol intake as a stress buster (especially alone).'
Another user pointed out, 'You are probably not reaching 10 million from a job in India anytime soon… First reach a million. You will understand that it is not as easy.' Another added the reality check: 'Sad part is, you can't even buy a decent 2BHK with 1 cr in Bangalore. Loan is the only way.'
Some also encouraged him to think about giving back. When asked about philanthropy, the techie admitted he hasn't done much yet, but has considered sponsoring education or medical treatments in the future. 'Giving away money still feels hard, apart from the small stuff like tipping and all,' he said, while adding that he has made small contributions, including donations to Wikipedia and a dog rescue initiative.

Rekha Jhunjhunwala sold Nazara before gaming ban but Nikhil Kamath, Madhusudan Kela held on

Star investor Rekha Jhunjhunwala fully exited her stake in Nazara Technologies in June 2025, months before the government's online gaming ban sent the stock tumbling. The move, which now looks well-timed in hindsight, came even as other marquee investors such as Madhusudan Kela and Nikhil Kamath continue to hold their positions in the gaming and sports media company. ADVERTISEMENT By March 2025, Rekha Jhunjhunwala held a 7.06% stake in Nazara, amounting to 61.8 lakh shares. On June 13, she sold her entire holding, including 13 lakh shares on the BSE and another 14 lakh shares on the NSE, at an average price of around Rs 1,225 per share, valuing the transaction at nearly Rs 334 crore. Her complete exit also closed the chapter on the late Rakesh Jhunjhunwala's 10.82% holding in the company, which she had inherited. In contrast, other prominent investors have stayed put. Madhusudan Kela continues to hold 10.96 lakh shares (1.18%), while Nikhil Kamath, through Kamath Associates, owns 15.04 lakh shares (1.62%).Their decision to remain invested comes even as Nazara's exposure to the space through Moonshine Technology (PokerBaazi) has triggered investor worries following the regulatory clampdown. In light of the regulatory turbulence for the company, brokerage firm ICICI Securities has downgraded Nazara to reduce, cutting its target price to Rs 1,100 from Rs 1,500, and assigning zero value to its earlier Rs 400 Moonshine estimate in the wake of the ban. ADVERTISEMENT 'Nazara's other verticals such as gamified early learning, publishing and gaming arcades remain unaffected,' the brokerage said. Unlock 500+ Stock Recos on App Nazara, for its part, clarified that it has no direct exposure to real money gaming (RMG) and that Moonshine's revenue is not consolidated into its financials. ADVERTISEMENT The company emphasized that RMG contributed nothing to its Q1 FY26 revenues and said it does not anticipate any material adverse impact on its reported revenue or the sharp market reaction shows how sentiment has soured for gaming companies with any perceived RMG linkages. ADVERTISEMENT Against that backdrop, Rekha Jhunjhunwala's early exit now appears well-timed, insulating her portfolio from the current selloff. She continues to remain one of India's most prominent investors, with publicly disclosed holdings in 25 stocks valued at nearly Rs 38,918 crore, according to Trendlyne data. Dual-degree programmes: Reshaping higher education

Higher education in India is undergoing a shift with the growing popularity of dual-degree programs. These unique collaborations allow students to earn two degrees—one from an Indian university and another from a foreign partner institution—within a shorter duration and at reduced costs. Beyond academic qualifications, dual degrees offer global exposure, cross-cultural experiences, and stronger career prospects. Students develop critical skills, broaden their perspectives, and build international networks while remaining connected to home institutions. Though challenges such as workload and recognition remain, dual-degree programs signal a new era in India's academic landscape, bridging local and global education seamlessly The dynamics of higher education in India are changing. The pivot change is the increasing popularity of dual-degree programs. These are gaining popularity both domestically as well as globally. Apart from this, the collaborative model not only makes the student a specialist in unique fields but also enhances their skill set which further boosts their career opportunities. Today, for the first time, students can earn two degrees through one program, one from an Indian university and another foreign partner university. The trend will not only change the Indian student's academic journey but also the Indian and international educational relations. What are dual-degree programs? It is a two-degree program that allows students to pursue two degrees simultaneously, typically in the same subject and at the same level of study, from two organizations. These programs are structured in collaborations where students must meet the eligibility and credit requirements of both the universities. Students usually have to take at least 30% of their credits at the Indian university while the rest are taken at the foreign institute, normally through face-to-face learning. Recent policy revisions eased the way for Indian universities to partner with foreign institutions, eliminating the need for advance UGC approval, having high eligibility criteria for partner universities. It provides a smooth passage for Indian students to study and receive degrees from abroad. Further, for foreign students as well, it is a great way to pursue education in India. Why are dual-degree programs becoming increasingly popular? There are several reasons why dual-degree programs have been gaining popularity, these are: • Time and Cost Effective: Studying one part of the program in India reduces the overall cost as compared to a whole degree in abroad, making global education more economical. It also allows students to complete both degrees in shorter duration. • Global Exposure: Students get valuable cross-culture exposure by opting for dual-degree programs. They learn and expand their global outlook which in turn enhances their adaptability and awareness. • Increased Career Prospects: Dual-degree offers a wide range of skills and knowledge, making students versatile and stand out from the crowd. This makes students attractive to professionals and employers, opening doors to careers globally. • Skill Development: This approach of learning exposes students to various curriculum which helps them develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills. • Networking: Students study with a diverse group of individuals which helps them build professional networks in two nations, exposed to worldwide problems and solutions. What are the challenges and considerations with these programs? Although the advantages are significant, there are a couple of challenges and concerns with the dual-degree programs as well. Students need to cope with added workload and there are risks of burnout. Apart from that, adjusting to varied school systems entail good time management and organization skills. There are issues with recognition and market acceptance of degrees, particularly those completed partially online or with mixed modes. Therefore, proper planning, clear advice, and strong support systems are critical for the students' success. The road ahead The rise in the number of students opting for double-degree programs is an expression of a greater dream for higher education in India: building global citizens equipped with world-class knowledge and skills. With time more and more international universities are setting up partnerships with Indian institutes, these programs are set to become the pillar of the Indian academic ecosystem, bridging cultures and giving access to new worlds for students and institutions alike. To future students, a double degree program is not only an academic qualification, it is a passport to opportunity. (The author is the Founder of

Consumer watchdog CCPA slaps Rs 10 lakh penalty on Rapido for misleading ads, orders refunds to users

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), the country's top consumer watchdog, has slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on ride-hailing service Rapido for misleading and unfair trade practices. CCPA, headed by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare, had taken suo motu cognisance of Rapido's two ad campaigns — 'Guaranteed Auto' and 'AUTO IN 5 MIN OR GET ₹ 50', and found they were 'misleading' and asked the ride-hailing service to discontinue them immediately. CCPA issued these directions under various sections of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. 'It may be noted that Rapido offers its services in over 120 cities, and the impugned advertisement ran for at least 548 days (approximately 1.5 years), being propagated in multiple regional languages across the country. Therefore, the CCPA finds it necessary to impose a penalty to safeguard the interests of consumers,' the CCPA order, issued Wednesday (August 20), said. 'Discontinue the misleading advertisement with immediate effect. In light of the nature of the violations detailed in the foregoing paragraphs, it is necessary that the opposite party [Rapido] is directed to pay a penalty of Rs 10,00,000 for publishing misleading advertisement and unfair trade practice.' 'The opposite party shall ensure that any consumer who availed the 'AUTO IN 5 MIN OR GET ₹ 50″ offer and did not receive the promised Rs 50 compensation shall be reimbursed the said amount in full without any further delay or condition,' CCPA said. CCPA said 575 consumer complaints were registered against Rapido on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH) between April 2023 and May 2024. These complaints were related to deficiencies in services, non-refund of paid amounts, overcharging, failure to provide promised services, and non-return of money. According to the CCPA, Rapido had 'not made any efforts to resolve these grievances on the NCH platform despite being regularly shared with them.' 'The conduct of the opposite party leaves no doubt in the minds of CCPA regarding the apathetic attitude of the opposite party towards consumer rights and consumer interest. Despite abundant opportunities provided under sections 20 & 21 of the Act, the opposite party failed miserably to negate the findings of DG (inv),' the watchdog said in order. 'Therefore, CCPA is satisfied that the opposite party has engaged in unfair trade practice, false or misleading advertisement as envisaged under the Act and therefore, CCPA is of the opinion that it is necessary to impose a penalty in consumer interest in addition to the other consequences,' it said. A Rapido official did not respond to calls and messages.
