Alabama-based drag queen featured on season 17 of ‘RuPaul's Drag Race'

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Season 17 of 'RuPaul's Drag Race' premiered on Jan. 3, featuring a drag queen from Alabama.
On Dec. 4, the 'Drag Race' Instagram page posted a video of Birmingham-based drag queen Sam Star with the caption 'She's the supermodel of the south!'
Al's on 7th, self-proclaimed as 'Birmingham's premier LGBTQIA+ bar,' celebrated its 14th anniversary in January. The business has been hosting watch parties for local 'Drag Race' fans to view the new episodes as they air.
'We've been doing 'Drag Race' reviewing parties at least the last seven years for the regular seasons, as well as 'All Stars,' said Mark Cummings, owner of Al's on 7th. 'Obviously, it's a bigger deal now, with Sam being on the show and Sam being on cast here.'
Sam Star has been on the cast at Al's for four years.
'This is a huge deal for us,' Cummings said. 'Not only for Sam, but for Al's and for our entire community.'
Alabama's June Jam concert canceled for 2025
Julia Jones has known Sam Star since middle school, and she says that one of the first times she saw Sam Star in drag was as Ursula in a high school production of 'The Little Mermaid.'
'It's been a point of pride for, I think myself, and everybody else that's from Alabama, and even our small town of Leeds, which is where we went to middle school and high school together,' Jones said. 'And, I mean, all the credit goes to Sam, but the community does help raise the person to be who they are today, and it makes you feel like you have a little bit of the win too. Like, whenever Sam wins a challenge, it feels very awesome to have your town in Alabama be shown on national television.'
In December, Jones attended an event at Al's where the cast of 'Drag Race' was announced, celebrating Sam Star's accomplishment of making it onto the cast.
'It was incredible to see people from all walks of Sam's life, going back from middle school, high school, through after he graduated, and theater in Birmingham,' Jones said. 'Any way that you could know Sam, somebody was there supporting him that night.'
So far, seven episodes have aired in season 17 of 'Drag Race.'
'Friday's episode, the judges' critique was that Sam was basically doing 'too well.' Everything she's doing is perfectly polished and well thought out. There was only one time that Sam had a bad critique out of the seven episodes so far,' Jones said. 'I definitely think Sam's going to be competing in the finale, in my opinion. Sam is bringing all the funny jokes, the pageantry and just the southern class. It's great.'

Honest mom is ‘pissing off a lot of men' by explaining why many women have a low sex drive

She's got the receipts — and the rage. A fed-up mom is going viral after revealing the not-so-sexy equation behind her nonexistent libido, or sex drive — and some men are fuming. '(Hours of Sleep + Number of Real Meals Eaten While Seated) x Partner Support ÷ Number of Annoying Comments He Made — Number of Times Touched by Children = Mom Libido,' Houston-based mom-of-two Maddie Muhs calculated in a now-viral Instagram video, uploaded last month. Advertisement And the answer? 'Not an f—ing chance,' she concluded, after walking through a sample calculation that included eight hours of sleep, three full meals, helpful husband duties — and about a thousand toddler touches. Advertisement Muhs, a talent agent and mom of two toddlers, says her husband had 'no notes' on the formula — though he warned she'd 'piss off a lot of men.' 'And I did,' she told in a recent interview. In fact, her post turned into a full-blown battle, with some people cheering in the comment section: 'Yes!!! I just sent this to my husband!' Some joked, 'We gotta find a way to add in how long the husband takes to poop.' Advertisement 'Women in stem,' wrote someone else. Others were furious and branded the mom 'a trap.' 'Don't get married and have kids if you refuse to meet your husband's needs. Definition of a trap right there. No love in your relationship,' one commented. Another whined: 'Women using this as an excuse to not have sex with their husband, but also don't want their husband having sex with anyone else.' Advertisement Muhs, who says post-baby pressure isn't just about snapping back into pre-baby jeans — but into bed — pointed out to the outlet that 'male hormones are wired one way — it's always sex, sex, sex.' But for moms? Hormones, exhaustion and clingy kids are part of the 'touched out' cocktail. One mom's viral libido formula is leaving some men on Instagram steamed — and not in a sexy way. Koegelenberg Coop/ – As The Post previously reported, Aussie sex therapist Aleks Trkuljia says libido isn't one-size-fits-all — and comparing yours to someone else's is a losing game. Instead, she urges folks to watch for shifts in their own desire or a drop in intimacy compared to what used to be the norm — and communicate their needs to their partner. If you're ever trying to reignite a spark, it's also best to figure out what snuffed it out to begin with. 'If you're in a context where the quality of your relationship is high and there's a sense of physical, spiritual and psychological safety, then you're likely to be more open to a sense of desire and libido,' she explained to Apart from self-discovery and being open with your beau about your needs, there also might be another solution regarding a decrease in libido — scheduling your romps. Advertisement As The Post previously reported, Aussie sex therapist Aleks Trkuljia says libido isn't one-size-fits-all — so stop comparing yours to everyone else's. It's a no-win game. Antonioguillem – As The Post previously dished, penciling in hanky-panky a few times a week has been the secret sauce keeping one Upper West Side couple going strong for 31 years. 'It's made our relationship one million times better,' Jay Lyons, an Emmy-winning director and producer, said. He and his wife Sofia, now in their early 50s, started calendar sex not long after saying 'I do' and popping out two kids in the '90s. Advertisement They're part of the 14% of couples who swear by sultry scheduled sessions, according to The Knot. Even celebs are on the clock — Jenna Bush Hager and Amy Schumer both admit to timing their trysts, while Nick and Vanessa Lachey lock in 'hump day' for exactly that. Turns out, the real secret to keeping the flame alive might just be setting an alarm for it.

Patrick Mahomes' Wife Brittany Mahomes Shares Heartfelt Post on Tuesday

Brittany Mahomes is showing her kids the importance of staying active from an early age. The certified personal trainer and wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, recently brought one of her children along to a workout session with Kristy Rae. "I'll never stop saying how important it is for your children to see you leading by example and taking care of yourself. It teaches them more than words ever could," wrote Rae on her Instagram story on Tuesday afternoon. "@brittanylynne you're such a good mama." The video on Rae's Instagram story included Mahomes and her two-year-old son, Bronze, lying down on the ground doing a leg workout. Mahomes then reposted Rae's Instagram story, with the caption "My boyyy." It is not surprising that Mahomes is showing her children how important exercise is at a young age. During the pandemic, the mother of three used to post workout and fitness content on her Instagram. Before marrying Patrick Mahomes and starting a family, she played soccer at the University of Texas at Tyler and signed on to play professionally with UMF Afturelding/Fram in Iceland after she graduated with a degree in kinesiology in 2017. After playing professional soccer for one season, she decided to move back to the US to support her husband on his NFL journey. On Sunday, the family celebrated Mother's Day, and Mahomes posted a video of her children jumping around in a bouncy house on her Instagram story. Beyond her fitness endeavors, Mahomes is a co-owner of the Kansas City Current, a National Women's Soccer League team, and she continues to be an advocate for women's sports and community wellness.
