Kerala official suspended for casteist post on Ahmedabad plane crash victim
Kerala junior superintendent suspended over remarks on Ranjitha G Nair, Malayali nurse killed in Ahmedabad Air India Boeing Dreamliner plane crash. Kerala official insults crash victim on Facebook
Official made casteist remark after nurse's death
Minister K Rajan orders immediate suspension
A Kerala government employee has been suspended after he reportedly wrote a post on Facebook insulting Ranjitha G Nair, a 39-year-old nurse who died in the Ahmedabad Air India disaster on June 12.
Revenue Minister K Rajan confirmed that A Pavithran, a junior superintendent at the Vellarikundu Taluk office in Kasargod district, was suspended after he made derogatory remarks about the victim's caste and government job status.
'This is a despicable act on the part of the Deputy Tehsildar. The order to suspend him was issued immediately after this post came to my attention,' the minister said in a Facebook statement.
Pavithran, in his post, referred to Ranjitha's caste, saying, 'A Nair woman from Kerala passed away. She went to the UK after taking leave from the state government job she got and spoiling another person's opportunity. Not feeling anything. Condolences to all.'
The Nair community is considered a high-caste group in Kerala.
The suspension comes amid widespread mourning for the victims of the crash, and many have called Pavithran's comments insensitive and casteist.
Ranjitha was working as a nurse in the United Kingdom and had returned to India just four days earlier to complete paperwork related to her government job here. She was returning to the UK to quit her job there, and resume service in Kerala.

Thailand says 'progress made' in Cambodia border dispute talks
Thailand said Saturday (June 14, 2025) talks with neighbour Cambodia had 'made progress' in resolving a long-running border dispute that last month devolved into clashes. Troops from the two countries exchanged fire on May 28 in an area known as the Emerald Triangle, where the borders of Cambodia, Thailand and Laos meet, with one Cambodian soldier killed. The Thai and Cambodian armies both said they had acted in self-defence but agreed to reposition their soldiers to avoid confrontations. Thailand has tightened border controls with Cambodia in recent days, while Cambodia ordered troops on Friday (June 13, 2025) to stay on 'full alert'. Officials from the two countries had agreed to resolve the spat at a Saturday (June 14, 2025) meeting in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh. Foreign Ministry adviser Prasas Prasasvinitchai was leading the Thai delegation, while Lam Chea, minister of state in charge of the Secretariat of Border Affairs, headed the Cambodian contingent. Thailand's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday (June 14, 2025) that the meeting had 'made progress in building mutual understanding' between the two countries. Thai foreign ministry spokesman Nikorndej Balankura said in a press conference that 'diplomatic dialogue remains the most effective way forward', adding that talks would go into Sunday (June 15, 2025). The row dates to the drawing of the 800-km (500-mile) frontier, largely done during the French occupation of Indochina. The region has seen sporadic violence since 2008, resulting in at least 28 deaths. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced earlier this month that Cambodia would file a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over four disputed border areas, including the site of the latest clash. Mr. Manet said in a Facebook post Friday (June 13, 2025) that the four areas and the border restrictions would not be discussed on Saturday (June 14, 2025)'s talks. 'Cambodia awaits Thailand to clarify its official position at (Saturday (June 14, 2025)'s) meeting on whether Thailand will join Cambodia in referring the four areas to the ICJ,' he said. The ICJ ruled in 2013 that a disputed area next to Preah Vihear temple belonged to Cambodia, but Thailand says it does not accept the ICJ's jurisdiction.

Bharat Bhushan Ashu urges Aam Aadmi Party volunteers not to vote for party
Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, on Saturday, wrote a message for volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on his official Facebook page, asking them to take a stand for themselves as their own party leaders "ignored them." Ashu wrote: "Today, my message is especially for my friends in the Aam Aadmi Party. It is for all those common workers of the AAP who have given their blood and sweat to the party for the last eleven years since you joined the party for the first time in 2014. You made the govt in 2022. You got the party a record victory with 92 seats. This is unparalleled. It was all because of you. But, what have you gained?" He added, "You know better than me how the Rajya Sabha seats were "distributed" among those who were never in politics but were big businessmen with deep pockets. And the remaining seats were distributed among people from Delhi. Now another seat, which is represented by a Punjabi, is up for grabs, irrespective of the electoral outcome on June 23, by another Delhi leader, Kejriwal Sahab." Ashu asserted that most of the positions which could be given to workers were given to AAP workers from Delhi and other states. "My appeal to all of you is to ensure that you do not vote for AAP this time. Show your anger and resentment. It is not that I am talking about my own interest alone. If you don't vote for AAP in this by-election and when the AAP candidate gets defeated, only then will the AAP leadership realise that it needs to take care of the Punjabi workers also," he stated. Tej Pratap Seen In Video Inside Kashi Temple's Restricted 'Red Zone', Probe Ordered
Varanasi: The Kashi Vishwanath Temple administration has ordered an investigation after a video circulating on social media purportedly showing Lalu Prasad Yadav's son and former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav inside the temple's restricted 'Red Zone'. The said zone refers to the area within the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor that also includes the temple premises. Mobile phones are not allowed in this zone. ... #Varanasi — Tej Pratap Yadav (@TejYadav14) June 13, 2025 The video that shows Yadav inside the temple premises is doing rounds on social media since Thursday, officials said. Kashi Vishwanath Temple CEO Vishwa Bhushan Mishra said that the temple administration recently became aware of the video through social media platforms and various newspapers. #WATCH | Ghaziabad, UP | On Tej Pratap Yadav's viral reel from the Kashi Vishwanath Temple premises, CEO of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, says, "The area inside the temple is a restricted area. One cannot take a mobile phone or a camera there. However, we… — ANI (@ANI) June 14, 2025 According to the temple administration, information has been shared with the CRPF and the local police, which are responsible for the temple's security. "Information has been sent to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take action against the responsible personnel of the concerned agency," said Mishra. "Both agencies have been requested to ensure strict adherence to the prescribed rules and guidelines within the temple premises. Their investigation will also verify the authenticity of the content circulated on social media and identify any personnel found to be at fault. If any violation of rules is found at any level, appropriate legal action against the concerned individuals, " he added. This is a fresh trouble for Tej Pratap. On May 25, RJD president Lalu Prasad expelled him from the party, besides declaring that he "shall have nothing to do with the family." The move came a day after Yadav had announced on social media that he was "in a relationship for 12 years" with a woman, despite being married and his divorce petition still pending before a family court here. He, however, deleted the post a few hours later, claiming on X that his Facebook page was "hacked."
