Little League World Series Coach Blasted For 'Classless' Move During Blowout Win

A Little League World Series coach is getting blasted for a "classless" move while leading 13-0 in a game.
Wednesday's opening round game between Nevada and Illinois was not close. Team Nevada, which is made up of the Summerlin South All-Stars, dominated on the way to a blowout victory. Nevada topped Illinois, 16-1, to get to 1-0 on the tournament.
But late in the game, while leading 13-0 with the victory already secured - close to it, at least - Team Nevada's coaches decided to call for steal attempts. In Major League Baseball, or college baseball, this could get you thrown at. Stealing in the middle of a blowout is most certainly against the unwritten rules.
But is it OK in the Little League World Series? Fans are debating.
While leading 13-0, Team Nevada decided to steal second base. The player's steal was quickly met with clapping by the third base coach, suggesting that it was a called steal, or at least an encouraged one.
But many fans are suggesting that stealing a base while leading 13-0 is a "classless" move.
"In the LLWS, Nevada beat Illinois 16-1. Nevada was still stealing and scoring on pass balls even after being up by 13 runs… Coaches, what's your take on this? I personally call off stealing & scoring on pass balls after being up 10…" one fan wrote.
"Stealing up 13-0 smh no sportsmanship," one fan added.
"Have you ever been on the other end of a beating by more than 11 runs?? You do NOT take extra bases and delay steal like that when your up that much!! I believe it's disrespect, or the winning coach doesn't know any better!! Not right," another fan added.
"The steal happened on a throw back to the pitcher. In a 13-0 game, that's just a lack of class & respect," one fan said.
It was a blowout victory overall for Team Nevada, though they are continuing to take heat for the steal on social media.
Illinois had just four hits through five innings - a comeback was still "possible" I guess, but it wasn't happening - though some are defending the move.
"This is the little league world series. For most of them they will never play in anything bigger. For a simple regular season game sure. You take the gas off. I do all the time. For the LLWS you play hard until the game is over. Save your pitching and don't be THAT team that lost a 13 run lead," one parent said in defense of the steal.
Do you think the steal attempt up 13-0 was out of bounds?

It's beach time, amusement park time for one Nevada football team after win

High school football began on Friday night in California, and no one was having more fun than the tourists/players from Sparks, Nev., the Spanish Springs High Cougars. They flew in Friday morning on Southwest Airlines, with plans to visit the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday and Six Flags Magic Mountain on Sunday. First up was a game against Simi Valley, and it went better than expected. Brady Hummel, a senior receiver and the son of coach Robert Hummel, caught 14 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-21 victory. There were 11 turnovers, with Simi Valley losing four fumbles and getting intercepted twice. Hummel was so wide open on one touchdown because of a Simi Valley secondary communication error that he could have been counting one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi and still would have been wide open. Quarterback Tyson McNeil passed for 211 yards. From the opening kickoff, when Jackson Sundeen returned it for a 96-yard touchdown, the Pioneers were trying to come from behind. The two teams combined for seven turnovers in the first half. Spanish Springs held a 20-14 halftime lead. Micah Hannah and James Scida each had interceptions for Simi Valley. The Pioneers lost three fumbles. Quarterback Connor Petrov had touchdown passes of 29 yards on fourth down to Quentin McGahan and 50 yards to Cole Alejo. In the second half, Petrov was intercepted twice and also lost a fumble that turned into a touchdown. Simi Valley was 12-2 last season and defeated the Cougars in Nevada, but two new quarterbacks and a rebuilt offensive line has the Pioneers working to improve. "We'll bounce back," Hannah said. As for playing against Hummel, Hannah gave up a touchdown against him, but also picked off one of his passes. "He's smooth," Hannah said. Los Alamitos came away with a 20-12 win over Inglewood. A two-yard touchdown run Lenny Ibarra put Los Alamitos ahead for good. Los Alamitos is headed to Hawaii next week. In Henderson, Nev., Long Beach Millikan defeated Foothill 27-14. Tight end/defensive end Jude Nelson had two sacks and made nine catches. Quarterback Ashton Pannell threw two touchdown passes. Sign up for the L.A. The Dodgers ended a four-game skid and the Padres' five-game winning streak. Ramon Laureano homered off Clayton Kershaw (7-2) to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the first.
