The former Rajya Sabha member was admitted to New Delhi's RML Hospital where he died after a prolonged illness. Malik was the last governor of the state of Jammu and Kashmir before it was bifurcated into two Union territories (UT).
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann remembered how Malik 'always gave priority to the issues of farmers and the general public and fearlessly raised the voice of truth'.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana Dushyant Chautala called Malik's demise 'extremely sad'. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): 'The news of the demise of former Governor and senior public leader Shri Satyapal Malik ji is extremely sad. He always spoke fearlessly about public interest. Jannayak Janata Party pays its respectful tribute to his fearless politics, farmer friendly thinking and simplicity in public life. May God grant peace to the departed soul,' he wrote.
Senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa too expressed grief over Malik's death.
'Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Satyapal Malik Ji, former Governor and a seasoned public servant. His contributions to Indian politics and governance will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones,' Bajwa in a post on X.

According to the order issued by the White House, Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase. He claimed that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. While the initial duty comes into effect on August 7, the additional levy will come into effect after 21 days and will be imposed on all Indian goods imported into the US, except for goods already in transit or those meeting specific exemptions, news agency ANI reported. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) termed the US's move as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable", declaring that New Delhi will take "all actions necessary to protect its national interests." In an official statement, the MEA said, "The United States has in recent days targeted India's oil imports from Russia. We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India." "It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest," the statement added."We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests," the MEA stressed.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Centre is currently holding discussions with various departments and ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Department of Personnel and Training, and several state governments. When is the Pay Commission formed? The Central Pay Commission is constituted every ten years to adjust the basic salary and pension in line with inflation and other rising costs. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, and according to the 10-year cycle, the next round of revisions was expected around 2024–25. How much can the salary increase? Under the 8th Pay Commission, a big salary hike is expected for central government employees. According to the report: The basic salary may increase by 30 per cent to 34 per cent. The minimum basic pay, which is currently Rs. 18,000, could go up to around Rs. 30,000. The fitment factor (used to calculate revised salaries) is expected to be 1.8, which will give employees a real benefit of around 13 per cent in take-home pay.
