Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear spiritual successor won't be out this decade
Arguably the most anticipated game from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is still at least five years away, despite being announced a year ago.
As well Death Stranding 2: On The Beach next month, Hideo Kojima's studio Kojima Productions is working on two more projects.
One of these is an Xbox published game called OD, a collaboration between Kojima and Get Out director Jordan Peele which stars Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. The horror project was officially revealed in 2023, but nothing has been shown since.
The other is Physint, a Metal Gear spiritual sequel which was announced in January last year. Unlike OD, no footage has ever been shown of the game, and there's a very good reason for that – it's still many years away.
Speaking in an interview with French magazine Le Film Français (via VGC), Kojima was asked about the upcoming film adaptation of Death Stranding from A24, and whether he'd like to direct a film himself.
'Oh, yes!' Kojima replied. 'I received many offers after leaving Konami.'
However, don't expect a Kojima film anytime soon, as the developer wants to finish Death Stranding 2 and Physint before he even considers switching mediums.
'Besides Death Stranding 2, there is Physint in development,' Kojima said. 'That will take me another five or six years. Maybe after that, I could finally decide to tackle a film. I grew up with cinema. Directing would be a kind of homage to it. Besides, I'm getting older, and I would prefer to do it while still young.'
While it's unclear why Kojima didn't mention OD, it's possible he's been told by Sony not to talk about the project while promoting Death Stranding 2, as it's published by Xbox – although it's unknown if it's a console exclusive or not. More Trending
Considering OD was announced before Physint, it's safe to assume the former will be the next game from Kojima Productions, which implies Physint hasn't made it past pre-production yet.
While Kojima's love for movies is clear in his games, an interview last week suggested he had been advised to stick to video games, by film director friends Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn.
In that same interview, Kojima explained how he has a USB stick filled with game ideas, so his studio could have a secure future after he dies. He's currently 61 and so could be 66 or older before Physint is ever released.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025.

Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing
There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations GAME OVER Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing TWO popular games are winding down this month as they lose compatibility with older consoles. To keep playing, fans will have to upgrade to the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S - costing as much as £499. 2 Black Desert Online will end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after nearly a decade Credit: Pearl Abyss 2 The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched Credit: Nexon Black Desert Online and The First Descendant are the latest titles to ditch support for the aging PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After nearly a decade of service, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the Black Desert Online will be shutting down on 26 June. The creators at developer Pearl Abyss said they were shifting focus to the existing PC version of the game and the all-new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. In-game purchases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players are set to be restricted. Gamers will be able to keep playing - and pick up from where they left off - only if they upgrade to a new console. When Black Desert Online is eventually made available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S after maintenance, players on the respective PS and Xbox platforms may continue with all their saved data, its creators said. All game data, including purchased items and in-game currency will be stored and accessible on those platforms. The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched. The title is set to be discontinued on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from 19 June, just two weeks before the game's first anniversary. The Sun tries new Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart before it's out The creators at Nexon Games pinned the decision on the "increased scale" of the game. The developer added that the team was spending "a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds," prior to the shutdown. The First Descendant has been on a downward trajectory for the last few months as its player count dwindles, according to The Gamer. There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations. Older hardware can't keep up with modern game features, making it harder to deliver new content smoothly on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Last of Us fans hit with disappointing update for season three release date
The Last of Us fans may be expected to wait a lot time for the release of season three of the hit HBO show... Fans of the HBO hit series The Last of Us can likely expect a long wait for the third season of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama television series. Season two of the drama finished last week, with some fans branding it as "disappointing". The season finale ended with Bella Ramsey's character Ellie confronting vengeful killer Abby, who is played by Kaitlyn Dever. The series is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, which was released in 2013 on Xbox and Playstation. The show quickly became a fan favourite due to viewers enjoyment of the game. Despite mixed reviews for the season finale, it was already renewed for a third season ahead of the season two release date. Similar to the game, the next season is expected to shift to Abby's perspective. At a press conference last month, according to Vulture, co-creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann admitted they still aren't sure how much viewers can expect to see characters Ellie, Dina (Isabela Merced), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), and Jesse (Young Mazino) in the next season. This led fans to believe the creators haven't completed writing the season yet. This theory was later appeared to be confirmed by Bella, who recently told Variety that they hadn't "seen any scripts," yet. When Bella was asked whether their character would take on a smaller role in the third season, the 21-year-old said: "I haven't seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that. I think that I'm going to be there, but not a whole bunch." Although they did not give anything away, they continued: "We've had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it's going to be, but I can't tell you." However, creator Craig revealed: "All I can say is we haven't seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever and we haven't seen the last of Bella Ramsey, and we haven't seen the last of Isabela Merced, and we haven't seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story." As Neil teased: "Whether you will see them on screen or not, their presence will be there throughout." Speaking previously about the show's future, Craig assured viewers that they were "not going to go past the game." He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, 'Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing… "I'm basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I'm not going to go past." Fans of the show could not be more upset with the long wait for season three, as they took to social media to discuss their upset. One fan wrote on Reddit: "I don't understand why they didn't just film season 2 and 3 at the same time or at least make season 10 episodes and have parts of 5. Honestly and a lot of people agree with me on this 2027 to see another 7 or 8 episodes is a joke." Which promoted another viewer to reply: "They should have made season 2 as long as it took. 15 or 20 episodes. Just f*****g do it." As a third replied, showing their distrust to HBO: "The current head of HBO sucks and is making terrible decisions."

James Bond video game from makers of Hitman will be unveiled this week
The developer behind Hitman has announced its upcoming James Bond game will be revealed in the next few days, with all eyes on Summer Game Fest. James Bond's history in video games is an abundance of lows lifted by the occasional bright spot, with GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 (and, argubly, 007: Nightfire) standing tall as the best adaptation so far. While it's been a dismal time for 007 in video games since, Hitman developer IO Interactive provided a sliver of hope, when it announced in 2020 that it was working on something called Project 007. We've heard little about the project since, aside from confirmation of a Switch 2 version, but now the studio has revealed the game's official title. As noted by the developer on X, Project 007 is titled 007 First Light. A brief synopsis is available on the game's website, which reads: 'Featuring a wholly original Bond origin story, players will step into the shoes of the world's favourite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.' Nothing else has been said about the game, but a reveal is planned for 'this week'. There are no specifics on when it will be shown, but it's very likely it will pop up at Summer Game Fest on Friday, June 6. If it doesn't appear there, the next obvious candidate is the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, June 8. A Nintendo Direct is also rumoured to take place either this week or next, so it's possible 007 First Light could appear there too. Although if there is a Nintendo Direct this month it's more likely to be next week. More Trending In an interview from last year, IO Interactive boss Hakan Abrak described the game as having an entirely new James Bond untethered to the movies. 'It's completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future,' he said. 'And equally important and exciting, it's a new Bond. It's a Bond we built from ground up for gamers. It's extremely exciting with all the tradition and all the history there is there together to work on this together with the family of creating a young Bond for gamers; a Bond that the gamers can call their own and grow with.' While the phrase a 'Bond for gamers' sounds like nightmare spew from Xbox's PR department, IO Interactive's excellent work on the Hitman franchise is enough reason to get excited about what it can cook up with the James Bond IP. Beyond 007 First Light, there are also rumours Capcom could debut Resident Evil 9 at Summer Game Fest. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter, and sign-up to our newsletter.
