Ben Affleck to Replace Matt Damon in Netflix's "Animals," Gillian Anderson Joins Cast
Yara Sameh
Ben Affleck is set to star in his upcoming Netflix thriller 'Animals,' which he's also directing. His longtime friend and collaborator Matt Damon was originally slated to lead the movie but had to depart due to scheduling conflicts with Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic 'The Odyssey.'
'Animals' aims to begin production in Los Angeles this April, while 'The Odyssey' is expected to shoot in various global locations later in February.
Billy Ray, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of 'Captain Phillips,' 'The Hunger Games' and AMC Theatres' iconic Nicole Kidman ad, is penning the screenplay with Connor McIntyre. The crime thriller reportedly follows a mayoral candidate whose child is kidnapped.
Though Damon won't appear in 'Animals,' he's remaining on the project as a producer with Affleck through their company Artists Equity, along with executive Dani Bernfeld.
Additional producers are Brad Weston and Collin Creighton of MakeReady, who developed the project in partnership with Fifth Season. Artists Equity's Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, and Lucy Damon will serve as executive producers.
Affleck is the Oscar-winning filmmaker of the political thriller 'Argo,' crime drama 'The Town' and the sports comedy 'Air,' all of which he's pulled off double duty as an actor and director.
Anderson, best known for starring in 'The X-Files' as FBI agent Dana Scully, has recently worked with Netflix on 'The Crown,' in which she portrayed Margaret Thatcher and 'Sex Education.'
Additional casting for 'Animals' will be announced in the coming weeks, though it's probably safe to assume that Damon's 'Odyssey' co-stars won't be on the call sheet, either.

Yara Sameh Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman, former England football captain David Beckham, and The Who front man Roger Daltrey are among the prominent figures awarded knighthoods in this year's King's Birthday Honours list. Oldman, 67, who played Harry Potter's godfather Sirius Black in several of the movies in the franchise, was awarded a knighthood for services to drama. In 2018, the Hollywood star won an Oscar for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the film 'Darkest Hour.' Beckham, 50, was recognized for his services to sport and charity. Will Smith Releases New Single and Video "Pretty Girls"
Yara Sameh Will Smith has returned on Friday with a brand new song ,'Pretty Girls,' as well as an accompanying music video. The track comes after Smith returned with his new album "Based on a True Story" on March 28. He also dropped off a Lyrical Lemonade freestyle where he proclaimed himself the 'Lionel Messi' of hip-hop. 'I told myself I was done with sequels. I was like, 'I've made enough sequels. I got some new things I want to make,'' he said. 'Literally this morning, an hour before I came down here, they just threw the bag for another Men in Black. I was like, 'Ah, I'm supposed to be going on tour this summer.'' Squid Game" Season 3 Drops Final Trailer
Yara Sameh Netflix dropped Friday a second trailer of the third and final season of its smash-hit South Korean blockbuster dystopian show 'Squid Game.' The third and final season of the Korean hit — Netflix's most watched series to date, regardless of language — arrives June 27. The new trailer takes a somewhat more somber tone than the previous one, with quieter music and a voiceover from Jang Geum-ja/Player 149 (portrayed by Kang Ae-shim), who's speaking to the show's protagonist Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae): 'Are you blaming yourself for everything that happened? No matter how you look at it, life is just unfair. Bad people do bad things, but they blame others and go on to live in peace. Good people, on the other hand, beat themselves up about the smallest things,". 'I still believe that you came here to save us all,' she concludes. Player 456, though, gets the last line: 'I'm trying to put an end to it.' Season two of "Squid Game", released in late December, ended with a cliffhanger: The games weren't over, and Gi-hun and his associates were once again held captive. After winning the Squid Games in season one, Gi-hun was determined to dismantle them from the inside. The giant streamer released the first trailer at its annual Tudum event in May. The seven-episode second season explored Gi-hun's efforts to do that, culminating in a finale where he found himself thwarted by Front Man, the enigmatic game leader played by Lee Byung-hun who was revealed to the audience — but not yet to Gi-hun — to be Player 001. Front Man executed Gi-hun's best friend, Player 290/Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), as a warning about the consequences of his rebellion. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk executive produces season three with Kim Ji-yeon. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
