His remarkable yet largely untold story is now the focus of Ground Zero, with Emraan Hashmi portraying the fearless officer whose actions shaped India's anti-terror strategy. Here's the real story behind the film, which recently premiered on Prime Video.
Ground Zero real story
Ground Zero starring Emraan Hashmi is a tribute to Commandant Narendra Nath Dubey, a brave hero from the Border Security Force (BSF).
Who is Narendra Nath Dubey?
Narendra Nath Dubey, a highly honored officer of the Border Security Force (BSF), was at the forefront of one of India's boldest and most critical counter-terrorism operations. He spearheaded a covert mission in Kashmir with the objective of capturing or eliminating Ghazi Baba, a senior leader of the Pakistan-backed terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Ghazi Baba was the chief architect behind the 2001 Indian Parliament attack—which shook the nation and claimed several lives—and was also responsible for numerous other fatal attacks across India. Dubey and his team worked relentlessly, gathering intelligence, uncovering hideouts, and keeping Ghazi Baba's movements under close watch.

Rana Tahir Nadeem, better known as Ghazi Baba, was among the most wanted terrorists globally. In August 2003, following extensive surveillance and meticulous planning, the BSF initiated the final stage of their operation to capture him.
What happened to Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey after the attack?
He was struck by seven bullets during the operation, with one still embedded between his spine and lower abdomen. Remarkably, a bullet aimed at his chest was stopped by a medal he was wearing, narrowly missing his heart. In 2005, he was awarded the Kirti Chakra, the country's second-highest gallantry honour for his role in 'Operation Ghazi Baba'. He went on to serve in the BSF until his retirement in 2022.

In August 2025, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History opened an exhibit called 'Change Your Game'. The exhibit asks visitors if they think Lia Thomas competing on the women's team is fair or foul. It also explains how gender testing works in sports. This show got heat because sponsor Nike is involved, and fitness star Jillian Michaels called it out on CNN. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump asked for a full check of all Smithsonian exhibits ahead of the country's 250th birthday. Lia Thomas in Nike-funded Smithsonian exhibit sparks fairness debate Lia Thomas was on the University of Pennsylvania's women's swim team in early 2022. The 'Change Your Game' exhibit at the Smithsonian asks visitors to pick if her presence is 'fair or foul.' It also explains gender testing, like using cheek swabs to check for a Y chromosome, which World Athletics is starting to use to decide who can compete in women's events. Fitness influencer Jillian Michaels spoke about it on CNN and said, 'It's not complex. It's basic science. Is it fair to have biological men competing against biological women in sports? No, but why is this in the Smithsonian?' That drew sharp criticism from conservatives who said the company talks about women's sports but supports an exhibit they find unfair. This all comes as President Donald Trump launched a review of Smithsonian exhibits. On August 12, 2025, the White House sent a letter asking for a 'comprehensive internal review' to make sure exhibits match a strong, united view of America and steer clear of anything divisive. That review includes the 'Change Your Game' exhibit in the National Museum of American History. Trump's team said they want to look at tone, how history is framed, and whether exhibits celebrate American ideals. Some civil rights leaders said this review could erase important stories in American history but that's a whole different story. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. It is where the Longewala war happened during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 where India came out victorious. Live bombs from the war, the story The temple is unique in many senses as it houses live bombs from the war. During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, the temple was attacked by over 3,000 bombs. But as per local lore, these bombs some missed their target and some did not explode. Soon after, India's Border Security Force (BSF) took charge of the maintenance of the temple and nearby region. Later, in 1971, Tanot was again attacked during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 (Battle of Longewala). The border was attacked by tanks but they could not get in and went down in the sand. After winning the war, a Vijay Stambha or a Victory tower was built inside the temple. The bombs that did not explode were placed inside the temple. These heavy looking bombs are now put on display on shelves inside the temple covered by glass doors. The tanks are placed close to the temple near the border. There's also a cute cafe called 'Border' cafe and a theater room where only 'Border' (the movie) plays. Badshah's USA Tour Sponsored By Pakistanis? FWICE Sends Letter, Demands Clarification

Scheduled to take place in Dallas on September 19, 2025, Badshah's show is allegedly sponsored by a company owned and operated by Pakistani nationals. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has issued a letter to Badshah seeking clarification about his upcoming show, 'Badshah's Un-Finished Tour'. Scheduled to take place in Dallas on September 19, 2025, the show is allegedly sponsored by a company owned and operated by Pakistani nationals. 'Dear Mr. Badshah, It has come to our attention that you are scheduled to perform in an upcoming event Badshah Un-Finished Tour at the Curtis Culwell Centre in Dallas, USA, on the 19th of Sept 2025 which is reportedly being sponsored by 3Sixty Shows, a company owned and operated by Pakistani nationals," the letter reads. 'As you are aware, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), in alignment with the directives issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, has clearly instructed all artists, performers, and technicians in the Indian entertainment industry to refrain from engaging in any professional collaborations or performances with Pakistani nationals or organizations connected to Pakistan. These measures are in place considering the continuing acts of terrorism and hostile activities directed against India from across the border," it added. Seeking clarification from Badshah, the letter further stated, 'In light of this, we request your immediate clarification regarding your association with this event and the said organizers. We trust that as a respected Indian artist, you will uphold the sentiments of the nation and the directives issued by FWICE and the Government of India. Your prompt response will be appreciated so that we may take the necessary steps in accordance with our regulations." For the unversed, Indian artists were asked not to work with Pakistani artists following the Pahalgam attack in April 2025. India launched a counter-terror strike on Pakistan roughly 2 weeks after the Pahalgam attack, and destroyed the majority of the terror infrastructure across Pakistan. Amid the tensions between India and Pakistan, the Government of India also issued an advisory to OTT platforms, media streaming services, and intermediaries regarding content originating from Pakistan. All streaming platforms were advised to discontinue Pakistan-origin content, including films, web series, songs, and podcasts, with immediate effect. Social media accounts of Pakistani actors were also banned in India. First Published: August 14, 2025, 14:52 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
