Maharashtra government offers to shift transmission towers from Dahisar to Gorai to expedite redevelopment projects
Mumbai: State govt has written to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) offering to shift the transmission towers free of cost from Dahisar to Gorai. This is the fourth such letter govt has written to the Centre to expedite the shifting of the transmission towers. The high-frequency communication equipment was installed by AAI on their own lands at Juhu, Andheri West, and Dahisar. By virtue of a civic aviation notification published in December 2020, building height restrictions were imposed in and around these high-frequency towers. This has impacted the redevelopment of buildings and slum redevelopment projects as the reduced building heights are affecting the commercial viability of the projects. Aseem Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, state urban development dept, in the letter, said the cost of shifting the high-frequency Rx stations from Dahisar to an alternate location at Gorai shall be borne by the BMC. The corporation, he said, will also carry out the development of the site, boundary wall, and other related infrastructure. However, AAI will have to develop this land into a green area as a garden/park which shall be made available to the general public. At Gorai, where the HF receiving stations are proposed to be shifted, the govt has stated that height restrictions as per AAI rules would be applicable. "Also, the existing NOCs which have already been granted to buildings that are ongoing in and around Gorai would require reconciliation. This is important for safe air operations in the city," states the letter. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
