Girl dies by suicide after brother scolds her over late-night chatting on phone in West Champaran
Originally from Siwan, Sujata Sharma had been living with her family in a rented house for the past 15 years.
According to Mufassil SHO Samrat Singh, preliminary investigation revealed that Sujata was engaged in a late-night chat on a social media platform around 2am on Thursday. Her elder brother, upon noticing this, confronted her. In a panic, she allegedly deleted the chat ID and contact number before being scolded and slapped by her brother.
The incident escalated the following morning around 9am, when Sujata was found hanging inside the house while her family were away.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
In an attempt to avoid legal complications, the family allegedly buried the body without informing the police. However, someone informed the police about the incident. A team led by inspector Kanchan Bhaskar reached the spot and exhumed the body, and sent it to Govt Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Bettiah, for postmortem.
"We are conducting a thorough investigation. The exact cause of death will be confirmed following the autopsy report," the SHO said,

Cash, cellphones worth Rs 20 lakh stolen
Patna: Cash and goods worth around Rs 20 lakh were stolen from a cellphone shop at Mahadev Sthan locality in Patna's Khagaul police station area around 5am on Wednesday. Thieves broke into the shop by breaking the shutter and stole around 150 mobile phones of different brands worth approximately Rs 15 lakh. They also stole Rs 5 lakh cash from the shop's cash counter. Khagaul SHO Rajkumar Singh said shop owner Sanjeet Kumar alias Rishi reported that he closed at 10pm on Tuesday and the theft was discovered at 9.30am on Wednesday. "The CCTV camera footage show a thief breaking into the shop, while five or six others kept watch outside in the early hours. Karnataka high court adjourns Yediyurappa's Pocso case hearing to Aug 23
Bengaluru: The Karnataka high court Wednesday deferred the hearing on a petition filed by former chief minister BS Yediyurappa to Aug 23 in a case registered against him last year under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The former CM sought an adjournment of two weeks. The special public prosecutor opposed it, citing provisions of Section 35 of Pocso Act that mandates victim's evidence be recorded within 30 days of taking cognisance, and the trial should be completed within a year of taking cognisance. In the case, the high court on Feb 7 this year quashed the order of taking cognisance dated July 4, 2024, while remitting the matter for fresh consideration. The special court in Bengaluru took fresh cognisance and issued summons in the case on Feb 28. Challenging this, Yediyurappa and the co-accused approached the high court again. The high court stayed the order of taking cognisance and also issuing of summons by the special court on March 14. She had registered 58 cases against several people, and a few cases were registered against her too. Denying the occurrence of the alleged incident, Yediyurappa also claimed the complaint was registered against him to wreak political vengeance. Sonpapdi-maker and goon held with kattas
1 2 Nagpur: The crime branch has arrested two individuals, including a sonpapdi factory owner and a criminal, and seized two country-made firearms and five live cartridges in separate operations on Tuesday. The raids, conducted under the supervision of DCP Crime Rahul Maknikar and led by senior inspector Sandeep Buwa, targeted illegal arms possession in the city. In the first operation, between 1:30am and 2:50am, police laid a trap near Hanuman Vyayam School, Futala Lake, under Ambazari police station limits. They apprehended Pankaj Bhalla, alias Bhallaji Atram, 44. A search revealed a country-made firearm, a magazine, three live cartridges, and a mobile, collectively valued at Rs63,000. Bhalla, a criminal with multiple cases against him, confessed to buying the weapon from Shailesh Kadbe, Vishwas Solanki, and Shahrukh Rajput, anticipating an attack. The case was handed over to Ambazari police. In a second raid, police arrested Purushottam Bhagatkar, 44, a sonpapdi factory owner with no criminal record, from Timki Dadra bridge. Police seized a country-made firearm, magazine, two live cartridges, a mobile phone, and Rs1,500 cash. Bhagatkar was handed over to Tehsil police. The accused duo reportedly procured the firearms from interstate arms smugglers based in Madhya Pradesh. Police are investigating.
