By: Bernama Text Size: For illustrative purposes only. - depositphotos PUTRAJAYA: The government has introduced amendments to the Penal Code to address bullying, harassment, insults and identity misuse, including those committed online. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said noted that the amendments were introduced to the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 (Act A1750), which was approved by the King on Feb 25 this year and gazetted on March 7.
Advertisement 'It introduces new sections, 507B to 507G, specifically to address bullying committed by any means and methods, including online. 'These amendments provide for offences related to harassment, threats, bullying, insults and misuse of identity information, including situations that may lead to suicide attempts as well as cases where the person provoked attempts or commits suicide,' she said in a statement here today. She said offenders are liable to imprisonment for a term that may be extended up to 10 years, and a fine or both. '…it is the responsibility of every citizen to study and comply with these laws that are now in effect,' she said.
Advertisement She advised the public to obtain information directly from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department or the Legal Aid Department for clarification on the amendments. 'Keep in mind that ignorance of the law is not an excuse. A clear understanding of one's rights and responsibilities under the law is the first step towards building a safer, more ethical and humane society,' she added. Police open 3 cases after attack on Rafizi Ramli's son
PETALING JAYA: Selangor police have confirmed that former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli's son was attacked by an unknown individual at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on August 13, 2025. In an official statement released today, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar (pic) confirmed that a police report was lodged regarding an incident involving a male child who was physically approached and pricked with an unidentified device by an unknown individual. The attack occurred at the entrance of Symphony 2, IOI City Mall, Putrajaya, in front of K-FRY premises. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the victim is the son of Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli, who is Pandan MP and former Minister of Economy. Following the incident, police have opened an investigation paper under three separate provisions: - Section 14(D) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792) - If convicted, the perpetrator faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping. - Section 324 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, or fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments. - Section 352 of the Penal Code - Provides for imprisonment of up to three months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both. Shazeli also said that reported that the victim's condition is stable. A comprehensive investigation involving various aspects is being conducted by Selangor police contingent with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman headquarters. The investigation focuses on multiple angles, including efforts to identify the motive behind the incident and the object used by the suspect. As of now, the suspect has not been identified, and further investigations are being actively pursued. The public will be informed of any developments from time to time. Man killed in Seremban had alleged affair with suspect's wife, say cops

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: The man who died after being stabbed in front of a house in Senawang, Seremban, on Monday evening allegedly had an affair with the suspect's wife, say police. Berita Harian reported Negeri Sembilan police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Yussof as saying the suspect had become enraged after learning of the affair. 'Investigations found that the 28-year-old victim had become acquainted with the suspect's wife a month ago via social media,' he said. Dzaffir said the suspect had no previous convictions for criminal offences and tested negative for drug use. The victim died after being stabbed in the chest by the 31-year-old suspect. Seremban police chief Hatta Che Din said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer. He said police later confiscated a knife. Rafizi's son to undergo 6 months of medical tests after syringe attack

Kuala Lumpur: Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli today said that his 12-year-old son would have to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous during an attack at a Putrajaya mall yesterday. The Pandan MP said doctors and police had yet to determine what the syringe contained, prompting a series of blood and food tests as well as extended hospital observation. Rafizi said there were three possibilities: drugs or poison, which doctors had ruled out after observation; a virus such as HIV or hepatitis; or plain water. 'So far, there have been no immediate effects (for drugs or poison). I take comfort in that as a father, we can rule out drugs and poison,' he told a press conference in Parliament today. However, Rafizi said the possibility of a viral infection could only be ruled out after 'at least six months' of monitoring. 'We can only know after six months, and we will have to continuously monitor his behaviour,' he said. Rafizi earlier revealed that his wife had received two threatening text messages from an unknown number this morning, reading: 'Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS.' He said he suspected that yesterday's attack was linked to a case he was looking into, adding that he had met a group of whistleblowers just last week. According to Rafizi, his son was dragged out of their family car by two individuals dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets and stabbed with a syringe.
