MP Jagadish Shettar, MLC CT Ravi, and MLA Abhay Patil spoke at the programme.
Ravi said that 50 years ago, there were attempts to move away from democratic values by imposing a state of Emergency, which was declared for selfish reasons, to weaken the rights of the people, to control the judiciary, to take away the freedom of the Press, and for the suppression of human rights. "The Constitution reached a comatose state under the Congress dictatorship," he said, adding: "Those who massacred the Constitution shouldn't speak about it.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge did not raise his voice then. It was Jan Sangh, RSS, and BJP who did it."
Shettar said the imposition of Emergency in India was an act of insulting the Constitution.
More than 10 dignitaries who were imprisoned during the Emergency were honoured on the occasion. The programme was conducted to create awareness among the people by reviving the 'dark history' of Congress.

Modi Government left no stone unturned in ruining country's rapidly growing economy: Congress
The Congress on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) attacked the Centre over interest rates on savings accounts reportedly reaching the lowest level in 25 years, alleging that the Modi government has, in the last 11 years, left no stone unturned in 'ruining' the country's rapidly growing economy. Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh shared a media report on X which claimed that the 1% cut in repo rate by the RBI has forced banks to reduce their deposit rates, pushing savings account interest rates to a 25-year low. 'In the last 11 years, the Modi government has left no stone unturned in ruining the country's rapidly growing economy. Starting with demonetisation, new experiments are being conducted on the people of the country every year; they are being tortured in new ways everyday,' Mr. Ramesh said in a post on X in Hindi. The interest rates on savings accounts have reached the lowest level in 25 years, which is directly hitting the pockets of the elderly and the common citizens, he said. 'Banks have already closed their doors for the common people; after this, they will be available only to the very rich capitalist friends,' the Congress leader said. 'Prime Minister, the well-being of the people of the country is your first responsibility, but you are busy in increasing the wealth of your capitalist friends by diverting the money of the people of the country to their companies through the stock market,' Mr. Ramesh alleged. This is a huge injustice and deception towards the people of the country, he said. The Congress has been attacking the government over its handling of the economy, claiming the issues of rising prices, decreasing private investment and stagnating wages were hitting the common people hard.

The govt is developing a comprehensive plan for the project, with assurances of proper rehabilitation for evicted families, in line with official guidelines. Highlighting Hahila Beel's ecological importance, Sarma said, "Our govt is preparing a master plan to develop parts of the wetland into an eco-tourism destination while preserving surrounding areas as a proposed reserve forest." He referred to the July 22 cabinet decision and confirmed the approval to the designate Hahila Beel as a proposed reserve forest under Section 5 of the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891. He said this biodiversity-rich wetland, which supports rich flora and fauna, plays a critical role in flood regulation, nutrient cycling, and maintaining hydrological balance. He added that the conservation efforts would also sustain local livelihoods through fisheries and protect the aquatic ecosystem. The administration reclaimed 495 acres of govt-notified wetlands during the eviction drive. Sarma said it needs to be investigated how the settlers came to occupy these areas. He said the evicted families should not bear the entire blame, claiming that a section of politicians had encouraged settlement in protected zones. Tensions flared recently when Congress MP from Dhubri and other party leaders visited the site to meet evicted families. They faced protests and stone-pelting from some residents, who accused the leaders of failing to protect them. Sarma said the govt will facilitate the return of displaced families to their original place of domicile. For those who are landless, he indicated the govt may consider their appeals.
