'Mahi bhai, keep playing': Indian cricketer urges MS Dhoni to keep playing IPL on his 44th birthday
As
MS Dhoni
turned 44 on Monday, wishes poured in from across the cricketing world — but one stood out. 'Happy birthday, Mahi bhai. Keep playing,' wrote India pacer Deepak Chahar on Instagram, echoing the sentiment of millions of fans who still aren't ready to see the legendary captain hang up his IPL boots.
Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, remains the beating heart of the
Chennai Super Kings
franchise.
Deepak Chahar's post on MS Dhoni's birthday
Despite battling a chronic knee issue and advancing age, Dhoni led CSK through a turbulent IPL 2025 season, stepping in as captain when
Ruturaj Gaikwad
was sidelined by injury. His leadership and presence helped the five-time champions stay competitive, even as he batted lower down the order and played more of a mentoring role.

Though his once-explosive batting has lost its edge, the Dhoni phenomenon remains unmatched. Stadiums still sell out just to witness a glimpse of "Thala", whether he's behind the stumps, walking out at No. 8, or simply tossing the coin at the toss.
In June, Dhoni added another feather to his glittering cap when he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, Class of 2025, becoming one of the few players to be honoured for excelling across all formats and leading India to major ICC titles — the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.

Poll
Do you think MS Dhoni should return for IPL 2026?
Yes, definitely!
No, it's time to retire.
But will he return for IPL 2026? Dhoni remains non-committal.
"It depends. Again, I would say the same thing (that) I have four-five months to decide, there's no hurry to decide what needs to be done,' he said after IPL 2025 ended.
For now, Dhoni is enjoying a quieter life in Ranchi, but as always, the spotlight follows him — and the hope remains that he'll walk out in yellow one more time.

IND vs ENG, 3rd Test: Jonathan Trott accuses Shubman Gill of ‘acting,' draws parallels with Virat Kohli's theatrics
Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott has slammed India captain Shubman Gill for gesticulating towards Zak Crawley and shouting an expletive in his direction in the last over of Day 3 of the Lord's Test. Opener Zak Crawley repeatedly delayed bowler Jasprit Bumrah and called for a physio after being hit on the finger, successfully ensuring that he and Ben Duckett had to face only one over before the close of play, instead of two. Crawley's time-wasting tactics infuriated Gill and his teammates. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Gill pointed his finger at Crawley and told him to 'grow some f***ing balls.' Duckett quickly intervened, positioning himself between them, but the verbal exchange continued. A ball later, Gill rushed to Crawley and held his arms up in an X. Crawley responded by waving a finger at Gill. Trott compared Gill's antics to those of former India captain Virat Kohli. 'We don't know what went on when England were fielding, whether they were dishing it out. But I don't like the acting from Shubman Gill; as a captain, you set the tone,' Trott said on JioCinema. Why Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah lost their cool in last five minutes of Day 3 vs England 'Pointing fingers and getting very confrontational — very much like a previous captain — getting in the face of the opposition. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 목주름 방치하면 '이렇게' 됩니다 뷰앤디 더 알아보기 Undo 'I'm all for being competitive and tough on the field, but sometimes you have to rise above it. KL Rahul racked up his second hundred at the iconic Lord's before India matched England's first-innings total of 387 on an attritional day, leaving the game on an even keel on a deteriorating pitch. Poll Do you think Shubman Gill's reaction towards Zak Crawley was justified? Yes, he was right to confront Crawley. No, he should have kept his cool. Besides Rahul's high-quality effort (100 off 177), Ravindra Jadeja (72 off 131) and Rishabh Pant (74 off 112) propped up India's first-innings total. It will be a challenge for India to bat last on a surface where the odd ball is taking off after pitching and is offering some turn. Punjab Cricket Association elections: AAP leader's father becomes president, party's Mohali MLA wins secretary post
Aam Aadmi Party leader Paramjit Mehta's father and Bathinda hotelier Amarjit Singh Mehta was unanimously elected as the president of the Punjab Cricket Association, while two other AAP leaders, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh and the party's Punjab general secretary Deepak Bali, who is also advisor to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Board, were unanimously elected as secretary and vice-president, respectively. The elections for the PCA officer bearers and apex council members were held at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA New International Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday and all the office bearers as well Apex Council were elected unanimously. Mehta, a hotelier based in Bathinda, was earlier elected as the PCA president in 2023. 'I am grateful to the PCA members for giving me the opportunity and for being elected unopposed. My main focus in this tenure will be developing sports infrastructure in rural areas. With Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann's vision to promote sports in every part of Punjab, we will promote and spot talent through fair selection policies. PCA has always been known for its hospitality, and since the new PCA stadium will be hosting its first women's international matches as well as its first men's international match this year, we will work towards making them a historic moment. Apart from this, we will also open the PCA Club membership at the new Mullanpur Stadium in the coming months,' Amarjit Singh Mehta told The Indian Express. Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, the richest legislator in Punjab with reported assets worth around Rs 250 crore, began his political journey in 1995 when he represented Ward 21 in the Mohali Municipal Council elections and served as the senior vice-president of the council. Singh, a former mayor of Mohali, had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Fatehgarh Sahib as an SAD-BJP candidate in 2014 but lost. In March 2022, Singh won the SAS Nagar Assembly constituency on an AAP ticket, defeating Congress's Balbir Singh Sidhu by 34,097 votes. Singh, who has replaced Dilsher Khanna as the association secretary, said that one of the targets of the association is a new T20 league apart from conducting village-level tournaments in Punjab. 'This is my first tenure in any capacity with the PCA. I believe the experience of being an MLA, where you serve people, will come in handy. We will aim to start a new T20 League, apart from promoting village and block-level tournaments to spot talent and promote sports in the state. PCA hosted IPL matches for the past two years and also hosted the play-offs. We will make sure that the PCA's new international stadiums are counted among India's best stadiums,' Singh told The Indian Express. Apart from Mehta, Singh and Bali, Sunil Gupta, the incumbent PCA treasurer and the vice-chairman of the Punjab Economic Policy and Planning Board, with the rank and status of Cabinet Minister, was also unanimously elected as the PCA treasurer. Siddhant Sharma was unanimously elected as the joint secretary of the association. Last month, Dilsher Khanna resigned from the post of PCA secretary. Khanna, 33, an alumnus of Doon School and Delhi University and also a certified pilot, was elected as the PCA secretary in 2022 when former cricketer Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal was elected as the PCA president at the association's Annual General Meeting. Chahal had resigned four months after his election, with reports of alleged irregularities during his term coming to the fore. Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh too accused Chahal of being involved in alleged irregularities. Post the Annual General Meeting, PCA honoured Uday Pratap Saharan, captain of winning Punjab U23 team in Col CK Nayudu Trophy, VRV Singh, coach of Punjab men's U23 team, Umesh Gill, captain of second placed Punjab U16 team in Vijay Merchant Troph, RP Singh, head coach of Punjab U16 team, Jyoti, captain of second placed Punjab U15 women's team in women's U15 One Day trophy and Yograj, head coach of Punjab women's U15 team. Sunil Gavaskar's Blunt 'IPL' Take On Angry Shubman Gill Abusing England: "Lot of Animosity"
The end of the third day of the 3rd India vs England Test was a spicy one as Shubman Gill launched an expletive-laden attack on England batters Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett at Lord's. With 10 minutes left at the end of day three's play, after India and England's 1st innings scores were level, tempers began to flare up as Crawley pulled away four times before facing the third ball from Jasprit Bumrah. A few choice words were exchanged by India skipper Shubman Gill, who believed England were employing time-wasting tactics. Crawley was then hit on the glove, so he took a moment to check his hand and called for the physio. Gill also had a heated argument with Ben Duckett. Things began to heat up again as Gill made a sarcastic clap and gestured towards the pavilion, even as Crawley was checked for his injury, before being beaten by a seaming away delivery from Bumrah to end a fascinating day's play. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that the reason behind the animosity was because the IPL does not have many England players. "...England wanting to make it the last over. The Indians thought it was may bit of gamesmanship. Maybe it was," Sunil Gavaskar said on air after Day 3 ended. "There is a reason why this happened. That's because not a lot of England players are competing in the IPL. That's my thinking. From this England team Joe Root did not play, Ben Stokes did not play. What has happened with other teams is that a lot of their players are in the IPL. They have mixed with the Indian players, travelled with them. They shared changing room. This is what I keep saying, before the IPL, there was lot of animosity, bordering on being brutal, between some players. That intensity is still there, like Archer bowling to Yashasvi. There is lot of confrontation between India and England players because they don't play in the IPL." Brief scores: England 387 and 2/0 in 1 over (Zak Crawley 2 not out) lead India 387 in 119.2 overs (KL Rahul 100, Rishabh Pant 74, Ravindra Jadeja 72; Chris Woakes 3-84, Jofra Archer 2-52) by two run
