Government introduces Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill in Lok Sabha, refers to Select Committee
Introducing the bill, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the bill seeks to enhance trust-based governance for ease of doing business.
The Bill was then referred to the Select Committee of the Lok Sabha. The committee has been tasked to submit its report to the House by the first day of the next session of Parliament.

The Bill was introduced amid din as Opposition parties protested demanding a discussion on the voter roll revision in Bihar and other issues.
As the protests continued, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 p.m.
Over 350 provisions are proposed to be amended through this Bill.
The legislation is part of the government's efforts to improve the business climate of the country.
Earlier in 2023, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment to Provisions) Act was enacted, which decriminalised 183 provisions in 42 central Acts, administered by 19 ministries and departments.
Through the Act, the government removed imprisonment and/or fines in some provisions.
Imprisonment was removed and fine was retained in a few rules, while in some cases imprisonment and fine were converted to a penalty.

Owaisi seeks govt clarity on China's support to Pak during Op Sindoor
Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday alleged that China supplied weapons, fighter jets, and satellite intelligence to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor , and demanded that the Centre clarify its position before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to China later this month. Scrutiny of 43 forest rights claims done
Panaji: North Goa collector Ankit Yadav chaired a meeting of the district-level committee (DLC) on Monday where 43 claims under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act were taken up for screening. The claims were filed by villagers from Kopardem, Malpan and Satre in Sattari taluka. Of the 43 claims, the committee approved 29 while three were reverted back to the sub-divisional level committee for fresh scrutiny and verification. The committee rejected 11 applications as they were duplicate claims. The collector has been chairing one meeting every week since chief minister Pramod Sawant announced a fast-track schedule to clear pending claims. Indian drugmakers seek exemption for generics from US supplies probe
Mumbai: A US government probe into pharmaceutical imports and their implications on national security must exclude generic drugs from its purview, a business delegation from the Indian pharmaceutical industry told Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal at a meeting held last week. The local industry's contention assumes significance in the backdrop of the impending India-US bilateral trade agreement and the uncertainty over reciprocal tariffs being imposed by the US government. So far, the US has exempted pharmaceutical imports from the proposed tariffs of 50%, half of which are to kick in on August 27. Experts said that the issues related to supplies of medicines from India to the US are critical given the plans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit China for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting later this month in Tianjin. In April, under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, 1962, the US government had initiated an investigation into imports of medicines to the country, sparking concerns over potential supply chain disruptions and pricing volatility there. The law grants authority to the US President to impose restrictions on such imports if those are deemed to threaten US national security. People familiar with the mater told ET that the meeting with the pharmaceutical industry was called by the commerce ministry to discuss a range of issues, including ways to tackle abrupt disruptions and to strengthen the industry with closer attention to new research and innovation. A note in May from global consulting firm EY said that historically, Section 232 has been used to justify tariffs on steel, aluminium and automobiles.
