Teddi Mellencamp reveals she discovered husband Edwin Arroyave's affair with a mutual friend just days before Real Housewives debut - after tearfully claiming cancer diagnosis was 'payback' for her own infidelity
During an appearance on the latest episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show, the reality star, 44, spoke about her marriage, having paused divorce proceedings amid her cancer battle, and claimed her diagnosis was 'payback' for her own infidelities.
Teddi, who appeared as on Bravo's RHOBH until 2020, said that while she has since made her own 'huge mistakes' the discovery of Edwin's affair left her 'broken' and she was forced to beg him to stay.
She said: 'It was with somebody I knew. I mean, I'm not saying that I didn't make huge mistakes, and in my marriage post that, but that broke me'.
'That was the first time in my life where I was like, how will I show up every day with a smile on my face and raise these kids, and be this perfect wife and start a television show and become somebody that people like or they think are funny?'.
Teddi, who shares children Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5, with Edwin, went on to explain how the betrayal affected her on the Bravo show as she 'faked' her way through filming in a bid to avoid the news becoming public for the sake of her kids.
'My first season on Housewives, that's what I was going through. People say, 'Oh you seem kind of quiet or you were kind of passive or but that's not really who you are.' I was like, well I wasn't faking who I was, I was coping. I was so scared that someone was going to find out and ruin my family's life'.
MailOnline have contacted Edwin's representatives for comment.
Teddi filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, on November 1, 2024, also citing irreconcilable differences.
Then, in February 2025, she publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis, pausing the divorce proceedings.
Despite everything, Teddi and Edwin have remained close and have a amicable co-parenting relationship.
Elsewhere in the interview Teddi finally broke her silence regarding the alleged affair with her horse trainer, Simon Schroeder after the controversy hit the headlines in late 2024.
She said: 'I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen,' Teddi explained. 'But what I can say is, did I do things that hurt other people? Yes.'
As her eyes welled with tears, the mother-of-three reflected on how deeply the situation continues to affect her, without confirming or denying whether the cheating scandal occurred.
'To this day, does it still hurt my heart and I wonder if that's why I got cancer? Yes, like it was my payback,' she said, referencing her ongoing battle with stage 4 cancer after her melanoma spread to her brain and lungs.
'Nothing goes without payment,' she added. 'However long it was … it was all over the press, it was everywhere. You're trying to minimize everybody's pain. You end up maximizing it. Because now not only do you have yourself, you have your significant other, your kids, the other person's significant other, their kids.'
Court records confirm that Schroeder's ex-wife, Karli Schroeder, filed for divorce on December 30, 2024, just months after rumors of an affair began circulating.
The documents, obtained by People, cited irreconcilable differences and revealed that the couple had remarried on April 14, 2024, after annulling a prior marriage in February.
They officially separated on September 22, 2024.
The allegations involving Simon emerged while she was also going through a difficult period in her personal life.
'I always knew he'd do the right thing by me,' she said during the podcast. 'If he wanted to, he could still be filing and finishing this divorce off right now. But… it was like, 'Yeah, of course. No, we'll wait. We'll wait until she's better, and then we'll figure it out.'
When asked directly about her role in the scandal, she didn't shy away from the wreckage left behind.
'I've never talked about it at all, just because of the kids, and I've never wanted anybody to have a guarantee whether it happened or didn't happen,' Mellencamp, 44, explained
'So many people are hurt in the wreckage,' she said. 'But I can say this from knowing — the wreckage doesn't happen on its own. It never had happened to me,' Teddi said.
She acknowledged she was in a dark place mentally and physically during that period. 'I think I was so broken as a human being during that part of my life that I did things out of my better judgment,' she admitted. 'I was so sick.'
Teddi revealed she had been experiencing 'severe and debilitating headaches' for months before doctors discovered tumors.
'I was looking for comfort anywhere I can get it. I felt so much pain. I felt so sick. I didn't go to the doctors. I just felt some certain kind of way,' she said. 'The pain was so much that I had gotten to the point of like, almost hating waking up in the morning, which I had never been that kind of person.'
Still, she emphasized that illness doesn't excuse her choices.
'I wasn't myself, but I'm not going to blame my alleged actions on the fact that I was sick,' Teddi said. 'But I do think a bunch of things happened in my life all around the same time, and I had zero control of any of them. Like I just was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.'

When TMZ caught up with the 31-year-old actor in Los Angeles on Friday, he shared his thoughts on the forthcoming tell-all. Sam took a swipe at the 47-year-old father-of-six — who shares two sons with Britney, 43 — as he told the outlet, 'Well, he was a professional father so he would be a great... it would be the first book that'll tell you how to be a professional father.' The Iranian-born model seemed to be alluding to the child support payments he received from the pop star. Kevin has had majority custody of Sean, 19, and Jayden, 18, since October 2007. After 17 years, the singer's final $20,000 child support payment to Kevin was made in November 2024. Britney and Kevin were married from 2004-2007, and she went on to tie the knot with Sam in June 2022. The couple separated over one year later in August 2023, and the divorce was finalized in May 2024. Sam is now dating real estate agent Brooke Irvine, with whom he went Instagram official in December 2024. Fans of the Toxic singer used social media to slam Kevin for the 'cash grab' move after after he announced his plans to release his book this fall. He said in a press release that the literary effort will reveal 'extremely intimate and transparent' details about their 'highly publicized marriage.' 'I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak and endured constant ridicule, all while becoming the father my children needed as they experienced non-stop emotional turbulence,' the former backup dancer detailed. One person wrote on Reddit, 'That child support dried up real quick,' while another agreed, 'His timing tells you everything.' But on Saturday, the Fresno, California native seemingly responded to the backlash as he reposted a note of support from Hawaii media personality Ryan Kalei Tsuji. Sharing Kevin's book cover, Ryan wrote, 'I've watched Kevin stay silent while the world picked him apart. I've seen the toll it's taken on him and his family as lies spread unchecked, all while he chose not to defend himself.' Kevin seemingly responded to the backlash as he reposted a note of support from Hawaii media personality Ryan Kalei Tsuji on Saturday The message continued, 'Instead, he poured his energy into being a father, showing up for his kids, giving them stability, and protecting their peace in the middle of chaos.' In addition to his two boys with Britney, Kevin also shares daughter Kori, 23, and son Kaleb, 21, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson. He's also raising daughters Jordan, 14, and Peyton, 11, with wife Victoria Prince, whom he wed in 2013. Ryan's note went on, 'This isn't a tell-all meant to wound anyone. It's Kevin finally allowing himself the chance to share his truth after years of being misrepresented. He deserves that. His family deserves that.' The last part of the post read, 'Before you judge, before you assume you already know the story, I encourage you to read with an open mind. 'I've seen firsthand how love and sacrifice [have] provided the stability and normalcy his family deserves.' Kevin's press release read, 'The public unraveling of Britney's life and the constant attention around their family forced Kevin to balance being a father with being a protector.' His memoir will arrive almost exactly two years after Britney published a memoir of her own, The Woman in Me. It hit shelves on October 23, 2023 and contained details about her relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake as well as her 13-year conservatorship.

THIS Morning star Josie Gibson has revealed she went through a terrifying cancer scare after finding a large lump in her breast. She discovered it was related to one of her breast implants and had them both removed. 4 Talking about the 2023 ordeal for the first time, Josie, 40, told the Sun on Sunday: 'I had a big lump underneath my left boob and I was getting really worried about it. 'You could actually see it protruding — you could see the breast had changed shape, so I was getting a little bit frightened. 'So I went to my GP and he had a feel around — it was my breast implant. I went and I had them out and, for me, it was one of the best things I've done.' Josie, a regular presenter on the ITV show, had a breast enhancement operation in 2013 to take her from a B cup to a DD. Karen Gillan reveals her fear of being a 'low value individual' is what drives her
She has carved out a stellar career in Hollywood, starring with big hitters such as Tom Hanks, Emma Watson, Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe and Harrison Ford. However, Karen Gillan has revealed her success is driven by a 'fear of being a low value individual'. The insight emerged in an interview published in Photobook Magazine, which also featured a fashion shoot with the former Doctor Who star. The flame-haired Inverness-born actress also admitted that she is often 'riddled with anxiety', and is working on a horror/thriller that she will star in and direct. Ms Gillan, 37, said: 'What motivates me is a combination of genuine passion for what I get to do for a living. I love making films. I absolutely love it. So it's a combination of genuine passion and also a fear of being a low value individual.' She also touched upon another aspect of her personality, saying: 'If I could change one thing about my past, I would tell myself to enjoy myself a little bit more rather than being so riddled with anxiety. But that's more in social settings than anything else.' And, despite starring in box office hits such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji, when asked to finish a sentence about herself, Ms Gillan said: 'Karen Gillan is strange and silly and scared of being ostracised.' The interview comes after Gillan made her red carpet return in June - her first Hollywood event after giving birth. Ms Gillan appeared at the premiere of her latest movie 'The Life Of Chuck' in her adopted home city of Los Angeles, a science fiction film based on a Stephen King story. In December, Ms Gillan, 37, welcomed baby Clementine with husband Nick Kocher. Her appearance at the screening comes just weeks after she did her first photoshoot since becoming a mum. Posting pictures of herself sitting in a make-up chair, Ms Gillan said in April: 'First day back at work post baby. How do you do photoshoots again?' The Scot shot to fame as Amy Pond alongside Matt Smith's Doctor Who. But since moving across the Atlantic, she has gained fame for her Marvel movie role as alien Nebula.
