'Downton Abbey cast to reunite for emotional "farewell" documentary after final film - but one major change is set to leave fans furious'

Daily Mail20 hours ago
The Downton Abbey cast are reportedly set to reunite for an emotional 'farewell' documentary following the release of the third and final movie - but one major change is set to leave fans furious.
To mark the grand finale, the cast will come together for a glossy new documentary titled Farewell Downton Abbey, according to The Sun.
However, in a major blow to the millions who originally tuned in on ITV, the swan song is expected to land on a streaming platform - shutting out fans without a subscription.
A TV insider told the publication: 'This will be bittersweet news for all the people who would be thrilled at the prospect of seeing all the stars of Downton Abbey coming together one last time.
'Because it means there's likely to be a bidding war between the streamers to get this, probably Netflix, who currently show all the TV episodes, and Prime Video, who have the first two movies.
'With the release of the third film it's 'Goodbye Downton Abbey'. But not everyone is going to be able to take part in that, as only those who have the right subscription will be able to see it.'
MailOnline has contacted ITV for comment.
The news comes after it was confirmed last year that creator Julian Fellowes and his team were working on Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
The third and final film will see the return of Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern as the Earl and Countess of Grantham.
As well as Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary Crawley and Jim Carter as Mr Carson - some of the beloved stars who rose to fame when the original series aired from 2010 to 2015.
The upcoming movie will hit cinemas on September 12, and the documentary, produced by British company Monkey Kingdom, is expected to drop around the same time.
It's said to include behind-the-scenes footage, cast interviews, and emotional tributes from fans reflecting on the show's enduring legacy.
The latest news follows the release of the brand new trailer for the final film - which left fans in tears and teased a major scandal involving Lady Mary.
In the three-minute clip, Robert Crawley prepares to hand over his duties as head of the household to his daughter Mary.
However, her plans to become her father's successor are thrown into jeopardy when news of her divorce reaches the newspapers.
Set in the 1930s and written by Julian, the final chapter is directed by BAFTA and Emmy nominee Simon Curtis, who also helmed 2022's Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Alongside returning favourites like Hugh, Jim, Joanne Froggatt, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle, new faces Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan will also join the cast.
The trailer ends on an emotional high, as Lady Mary declares: 'Long live Downton Abbey.'
Downton Abbey is available for streaming on several platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and ITVX Premium.

Kim Tate's masterplan that would change Emmerdale forever

Kim Tate has a bold new plan (Picture: ITV) Kim Tate (Claire King) finally revealed her grand plan to Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) in tonight's Emmerdale. Kim has mentioned her project a couple of times recently, but the exact details of it were kept under wraps. We know that she's currently working with Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), who bought Annie's land back from Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb). However, in this evening's episode, Kim confirmed she has no long-term intention of collaborating with the Sugdens. After yesterday's events with Doctor Eddie Crowley (James Hillier), Joe told Kim that he'd work hard to regain her trust. In the kitchen, Joe happily listened to Kim speak about her new project, and made sure she knew that he'd be happy to help with it. Joe betrayed Kim this week (Picture: ITV) On the table was a map of the village and surrounding fields. Kim confirmed to Joe that her plan is to buy all of the land that sits around Home Farm, in order to have the largest farm in North Yorkshire. She knew it would be an expensive project, but Kim then revealed that she's been told the land could be used commercially soon, rather than agriculturally. It means that if Kim owns the fields and the use for them does change, she can capitalise on it. Joe highlighted that if Kim doesn't buy Annie's land, her idea might not work. She then smiled at Joe, confirming she already has a plan in place for that. The Tates are already loaded with money anyways, but Kim wants more. She told Joe that she intends to make the Tate legacy live on and if this is a success, they'll more powerful and richer than ever before. Emmerdale fans predict tragic turn for Bear Wolf as he makes 'worrying' return

Bear made his return during tonight's episode of Emmerdale, as he debated sending an apology to his son Paddy - but will he ever send the text and will they come face-to-face? During tonight's episode of Emmerdale, fans saw Bear Wolf make his return to the ITV soap after making a brief exit from the Dales - as some predict a tragic turn. ‌ At the start of the month, the character drove away from the village during a secretive storyline which saw his personality change and him displaying concerning behaviour. Viewers had seen the character behaving angrily and aggressively, and then returning to his usual self as if nothing had happened. ‌ Before his exit, he told his son Paddy Kirk after yet another run-in that he was going to stay with a friend in Ireland. ‌ During tonight's episode, Paddy and Vinny could be seen having a chat as Paddy revealed his dad Bear hadn't been in touch. Vinny then told Paddy that his dad was probably protecting him - as Paddy responded: "It doesn't matter now, I don't need him and he doesn't need me. He'll be having the time of his life somewhere in Ireland now." The camera then panned to Bear in a field as he got into his messy car. He was then seen typing a text to Paddy, which read: "Paddy, I'm sorry," although he didn't appear to press send. ‌ As his return aired, fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter - as some aired their concerns for Bear, worried he may take his own life after writing out the message. Others were left confused, as one wrote: "I wonder what is wrong with him?" questioned one fan, as another exclaimed: "No Paddy, there is something wrong with Bear!!!!" ‌ A third penned: "So we didn't find out what's wrong with Bear then. Just seeing him alone and isolated in a field," as a fourth asked: "Is bear living in his car?" However, some fans think they'd worked out exactly where he'd gotten to, as one penned: "Is he in one of Moira's fields? I don't think that he's gone far at all." Previously talking to the Mirror about the storyline, actor Joshua Richards who plays the character said: "There's an element of confusion in Bear's thinking. I think he's lashing out because he feels vulnerable and a bit afraid,' he said. ‌ 'He's a man who, in the past, has been incredibly physically strong and has earned his living from being fit and healthy. And he can fight. He still has that capability," he explained of where Bear's head was at at the time. Speaking about what would happen when Bear returned, Joshua said: "I think it's going to be an excellent storyline to take on because I haven't seen anybody take it on before." *If you're struggling and need to talk, the Samaritans operate a free helpline open 24/7 on 116 123.
