Aaron Rodgers Has Preferred Team for 2025 — And It's Not the Steelers

Yahoo26-02-2025

Soon-to-be free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has been linked to the Steelers, reportedly has a preferred team in 2025.
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan indicated at his NFL Scouting Combine press conference that the quarterback position is their priority going into the beginning of free agency–and all options are currently open. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Aaron Rodgers has named the Los Angeles Rams as his preferred team to play for in 2025.
Rodgers, a California native, will be looking for another new home after a disappointing stint with the New York Jets. He will be on his third season in four seasons.

According to reports, he will also look to bring his long-time receiver Davante Adams once he is a free agent. Adams was adamant about reuniting with Rodgers last season and likely would follow his quarterback to LA.
Rodgers has been linked to the Steelers multiple times going back as far as 2022 after Ben Roethlisberger's retirement. Most recently, he has been linked as an option as the Steelers are looking to solidify the position for the 2025 season.
The Steelers got a good look at Rodgers last season when the Jets visited Acrisure Stadium last season for a Sunday Night Football matchup. It was a night to forget for Rodgers, who now holds a 2-2 record against the Steelers. He tossed two interceptions to Steelers slot corner Beanie Bishop in a 37-15 defeat. Afterward, he graciously signed the footballs for Bishop.
Rodgers will turn 42 during the season as he seeks to try to get one more Super Bowl ring before concluding his Hall of Fame career.

Diontae Johnson: One bad year doesn't define me

Wide receiver Diontae Johnson was let go by four teams last year, and he had only one offer this year. Johnson signed a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $1.17 million in what might be his last chance in the NFL. 'They were the only team to hit me up,' Johnson said, via Mary Kay Cabot of In 2024, the Steelers traded Johnson to the Panthers, who traded him to the Ravens, who cut him. The Texans signed him and then cut him after 22 days. He caught 33 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns in the worst season in his career. 'I don't like to speak on a lot of stuff, so I just, everybody's going to have their opinions,' Johnson said. 'At the end of the day, I'm the only one in that room that really knows what's going on. I can only go off of what I know and then try to put out my best effort. But last year is last year. I'm trying to turn and change that narrative and move the right way and just keep going.' Johnson, 28, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2021 when he caught 107 passes for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. Thus, he writes off 2024 as an aberration. 'One bad year,' Johnson said. 'It's one year. I had five great seasons in Pittsburgh. I had one year, that doesn't define me as a player. None of that. My character or none of that. So like I said, everybody's going to say what they want to say about me, but I know who I am as a person deep down and that's all that matters to me.'

As the team wrapped up its one session of mandatory minicamp this week, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman made sure the team agreed to terms with its first-round pick, Jihaad Campbell. Once Campbell inked his deal officially, the Eagles took to social media to reveal it's a done deal. The official press release revealed it's a four-year contract, which will include a fifth-year team option. Shortly after the deal was done, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported a key detail regarding the financials of the deal. Campbell will earn a guarantee of $14,903,574 in the deal. Campbell just wrapped up a three-year run at Alabama. In 2022, he appeared in nine games as a freshman. Campbell accounted for just one tackle throughout the year. By year two, Campbell appeared in 13 games as a sophomore. He picked up 66 tackles, three pass deflections, two fumble recoveries, and half a sack. Campbell also had an interception, two pass deflections, and a fumble recovery during his junior effort as well. The Eagles made a move to land Campbell on draft night, but they didn't have to go far. Sitting at the end of the first round, Howie Roseman saw Campbell as the best player on the board when the Eagles' Super Bowl foe went on the clock. The Eagles decided to form a swap with the Kansas City Chiefs so they could move up and call on Campbell. It was an unexpected move for Roseman, who doesn't typically aim high for linebackers in the draft. However, the Eagles have prioritized the position more lately. Now, they'll look to develop a high-end linebacker in Campbell, who hails from Erial, New Jersey. With Campbell joining the linebacker room, he joins a linebacker unit that includes Baun, Nakobe Dean, Azeez Ojulari, Jeremiah Trotter Jr, Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and more.
